Abstract

Heavy-equipment delivery by Landing Craft Tank (LCT) is critical to mining operations in Indonesia’s archipelagic regions, yet routing decisions are often made without structured analytical support. This study develops a decision-making framework for optimizing LCT delivery at a mining-logistics company that relies predominantly on single-origin–single-destination (SOSD) voyages. Using a quantitative-dominant single-case design, 55 LCT voyages from 2025 (498 equipment-unit movements) were analysed through voyage-level key performance indicators—load factor, cost per ton, and cost per nautical mile. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) structured the choice between SOSD and multi-origin–multi-destination (MOMD) routing across six criteria, complemented by thematic analysis of seven expert practitioners and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA). The fleet recorded a low mean load factor of 27.7%, with 54 of 55 voyages below 50%. The multi-stop voyages observed in practice were not cheaper than SOSD, indicating that consolidation alone does not guarantee savings. AHP ranked SOSD first (global priority 0.540 versus 0.460). The study contributes a managerially usable, data-driven framework integrating performance measurement, multi-criteria evaluation, and risk assessment to guide LCT routing decisions.

Abstract

In relation to the asymmetric trade between Indonesia and the United States, this study examines the dilemmas faced by Indonesia during reciprocal tariff negotiation with the United States which had resulted in seemingly unbalanced outcome. First, this study aims to analyse potential dilemmas that emerge in asymmetric bilateral negotiation. The dilemmas that might occur are dilemma of cooperation, dilemma of trust, dilemma of positioning, dilemma of persuasion, dilemma of rejection, and dilemma of threat. Then, this study uses position-and-threats two-parties negotiation simulation, payoff-matrix analysis to identify the Nash equilibrium, and dilemma analysis to analyse the negotiation dynamics. Next, after the analysis the study shows that in asymmetric bilateral trade negotiation between Indonesia and the United States, Indonesia faces dilemma of trust, dilemma of persuasion, dilemma of rejection and dilemma of threat. These dilemmas were caused by the weaker bargaining position Indonesia has and high reliance on the United States position. Finally, this study suggests that weaker countries like Indonesia to strengthen their Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement (BATNA) and create stronger coalitions to reduce such dilemmas, which could improve the negotiation outcomes. The recommendations highlight the importance of strong and strategic coalition and better BATNA management strategy to achieve more balanced agreement in future asymmetric negotiation.

Abstract

Rigless well intervention is essential for restoring production and maintaining well integrity in upstream oil and gas operations. However, companies often face dynamic environments where multiple intervention candidates arise simultaneously, while execution capacity is limited by budget, resources, or financial constraints. Without a structured prioritization framework, Rigless execution decisions tend to be inconsistent and heavily reliant on judgment, especially under financial pressure or overly aggressive strategies. This research aims to develop a systematic decision‑support framework for prioritizing Rigless well intervention programs by applying the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The framework integrates multiple technical, operational, economic, and risk‑related criteria to determine the relative priority of Rigless program objectives. Expert judgments are collected and synthesized to establish a clear priority hierarchy among these alternatives including Lost Production Opportunity (LPO) Reduction, Integrity Restoration, Well Development and Stimulation. The results indicate that LPO Reduction emerges as the highest priority due to its direct and immediate impact on production recovery, followed by Integrity Restoration as a critical prerequisite for safe and sustainable operations. Based on these results, a Rigless Prioritization Guideline is also proposed as the primary business solution which translating analytical rankings into practical execution and deferral rules applicable under concurrent candidate conditions and financial or operational constraints. The main contribution of this study is translating analytical prioritization into a practical business decision framework that supports consistent, transparent, and defensible Rigless execution. This framework enables companies to adapt their execution strategy under aggressive targets or financial constraints without adding operational complexity.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines how scenario planning can support long-term strategic decision-making in a newly established premium tourism transportation company operating under conditions of uncertainty. Research Methodology: A qualitative single-case study was conducted at PT Rajatrans Indonesia. Data were collected through four semi-structured interviews representing internal, industry, customer-partner, and government perspectives and triangulated with secondary data from public and industry sources. The Garvin and Levesque framework operationalized through Chermack (2022) guided the analysis. Results: Two critical uncertainties were identified: the trajectory of domestic premium tourism demand and the intensity of competition in the premium segment. These uncertainties generated four plausible scenarios: Open Road, Race to the Top, Quiet Lane, and Survival Premium. The findings indicate that Rajatrans possesses competitive strengths through its luxury fleet, bundled service model, and referral network, but faces organizational vulnerabilities related to founder dependence, digital capability, and financial system development. Contributions: The study provides evidence of scenario planning applicability within a newly established micro-enterprise and demonstrates how divergent stakeholder perspectives may function as useful indicators of strategic uncertainty. The resulting framework combines foundational capability development with scenario-specific strategic responses to strengthen long-term organizational resilience.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of Systems Thinking (ST) and Entrepreneurial Thinking (ET) as complementary cognitive frameworks to develop a comprehensive approach to effective corporate turnaround management. Traditional turnaround strategies often emphasize linear processes, such as retrenchment and restructuring, while overlooking corporate decline and recovery's cognitive dimensions and dynamic nature. By synthesizing insights from various theoretical perspectives—including Resource-Based Theory, Stage Theory, Cognitive-Behavioral Theory, and Political Behavior—this research proposes a cyclical model that recognizes four interconnected stages: Cognitive, Behavioral, Turnaround Outcome, and Learning. This model highlights how managerial cognition shapes strategic choices and implementation effectiveness throughout the turnaround process. Unlike conventional approaches, the framework of this study incorporates cognitive adaptation, feedback loops, and resilience-building elements to enhance organizational recovery and long-term sustainability. The study culminates in developing an Integrated Turnaround Strategy Canvas. This practical tool enables decision-makers to apply cognitive skills in assessing corporate decline, implementing practical recovery actions, and building adaptive capabilities. This research contributes to the turnaround literature by highlighting the importance of cognitive flexibility, holistic thinking, entrepreneurial innovation, and political engagement in navigating organizational crises, moving beyond cost-cutting measures to foster strategic agility and sustainable competitive advantage in volatile business environments.

Abstract

Methane is a potent greenhouse gas with a global warming potential more than 80 times that of carbon dioxide over a 20-year horizon, making methane mitigation a priority for near-term decarbonization in the oil and gas industry. PT Blue Energi, an Indonesian upstream operator, joined the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP) 2.0 in 2025 and targets the Level 5 Gold Standard, which requires a transition from emission-factor reporting (Levels 2-3) to source-level quantification (Level 4) and reconciled site-level measurement (Level 5). This study evaluates methane quantification strategies through a mixed-methods design combining qualitative situational analysis (SWOT and Kepner-Tregoe) with the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Pairwise-comparison data from ten subject-matter experts were aggregated by geometric mean, with priority weights derived from the principal eigenvector and consistency verified for every matrix. The results are source- and level-specific: at Level 4, Quantitative Optical Gas Imaging (QOGI) ranked first for fugitives (34.7%), process simulation using UniSim for flares (35.1%), and engineering calculation with QOGI for venting (40.1%); at Level 5, drone survey ranked highest (35.3%). All matrices satisfied the consistency requirement (CR < 0.10) and rankings were robust under sensitivity analysis, offering PT Blue Energi a replicable, expert-based framework for measurement-based methane reporting.

Abstract

The focus of this research is the strategic optimisation of surface production facilities under capital and governance constraints, in Indonesia’s brownfield oil assets of Gunung Kemala (GNK), within a state-owned-enterprise (SOE) governance context. An integrated Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) model is formulated, jointly involving Value-Focused Thinking (VFT) to organise policy objectives, Kepner–Tregoe (KT) Decision Analysis to filter “Must” criteria and “Want” criteria, and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) for ranking four strategic alternatives: i.e., constructing a new facility, upgrading current facilities, utlisation of idle assets and renting third-party infrastructures. The raw data was obtained through conversation, focused group discussion and expert pairwise comparison with seven experts from domain knowledge. The comparison results reveal that utilization of idle assets appears as the biggest preferred alternative (global priority weight = 0.547) and compared to greenfield & brownfield expansions. This dominance derives from the capital efficiency, faster deployment time, reduced regulatory exposure and better alignment with asset-governance constraints. This research presents an integrated VFT–KT–AHP decision framework that is designed specifically for the brownfield bottle necks in emerging-market upstream settings. It expands the traditional AHP application from technical based ranking to incorporate issues in governance feasibility and asset utilization strategies as an internal capital allocation decision logic, providing a solution model that is applicable with other SOE oriented energy systems.

Abstract

The performance of Bank Syariah in Indonesia (Bank Orange) is declining because the asset growth slows down, decreases in ROA and rosing NPF are driven by being dependent on one ultra-micro product. This paper on the other hand tests which diversification path is most aligned with a bank’s internal capabilities, recognizing that outcomes from banking diversification are equivocal and non-linear. Internal readiness is evaluated in a two-step process based on expert interviews grounded in the Resource-Based View and analysed by Thematic Analysis; The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) on capabilities and diversification alternatives follows. The findings reveal Micro financing as the most aligned, Corporate financing second and low alignment for Joint financing. The research combines RBV and AHP in Sharia banking diversification, and characterizes the capability-based model as a roadmap for Bank Orange.

Abstract

This research examines the location decision-making process for a traditional home-cooked restaurant serving Yogyakarta cuisine in Bandung, driven by changing customer behavior, increased competitive pressure in the culinary sector, and the impending growth of the business. The owner requires a methodical approach to select the optimal location in Greater Bandung. Therefore, this project thesis evaluates three potential locations using a Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis methodology, which incorporates Value-Focused Thinking (VFT) to determine the six location criteria derived directly from the owner's objectives. The methodology employs the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to assign weights to each criterion and rank the three location options by suitability. A simple spatial analysis based on Christaller’s Central Place Theory assesses the extent of the residential area surrounding each potential location as well as the presence of service centers in proximity. The analysis proceeded as follows: (1) data collection through interviews and site visits, (2) completion of paired-comparison questionnaires, and (3) establishment of consistency and sensitivity checks. The findings indicate that the Taman Kopo Indah Corridor should be the first priority, owing to its extensive residential base, adequate accessibility, and tolerable levels of direct competition. Additionally, this research serves as a practical decision-support tool for small-scale food businesses seeking to establish new locations for expansion, as it demonstrates how Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis and spatial perspectives can be integrated into the context of Indonesian cities.
