Abstract

The present study aims at uncovering Mathematical Concept Understanding Ability in solving the problem of 3D Geometry from the perspective of both cognitive styles dependent and independent field. As the instrument, this study adopts Group Embedded Figure Test, Observation worksheet, test, interview, and documentation. In dealing with data analysis, it relies on qualitative analysis consisting data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Based on the investigation, it could be inferred that the students with cognitive dependent field could solve the problem with 3D Geometry; however, they still need some improvements to realize a proper way in using such method. On the other hand, the students with cognitive independent field, they could correctly operationalize the 3D Geometry concept to solve the same problem. In addition, this study also recommends that to minimize the problem above, the teacher is supposed to give proportional distribution in implementing either individual or group task.

Abstract

Spatial ability is an important one of the abilities for completing many tasks in everyday life successfully. Spatial ability is considered a type of different ability to others. Therefore, there needs a study on how are the characteristics of spatial abilities and to develop in schools. This paper is to reveal the ways are developing spatial abilities in learning mathematics. Based on literature review from some research, at least that there are six ways to develop spatial abilities in learning mathematics, namely: (1) using spatial language in daily interactions; (2) teaching for sketching and drawing; (3) using a suitable game; (4) using a tangram; (5) using video games; and (6) origami and folding paper. Playing video games like Tetris are exercises for spatial relations, mental rotation, spatial orientation, and spatial visualization.

Abstract

The cognitive level between teachers and students is clearly different in problem-solving. In the mathematics context, especially the function problem was only in geometric expression form, for knowledge construction and student's learning should use their cognitive level capacity. Not only the solving process is based on that, but also learning should be efficient for all students, and analyzing those processes is the purpose of identification inefficient issues in this study. This investigative study was held on three respondents purposively selected from a science program of senior high school in West Jakarta, Indonesia. This study found that in the solving process, all students chose to construct an algebraic representation of the function by organizing concepts relevant to fragmented conceptualization. The process has held to apply each concept procedurally. There has been a resource and that is one concept of the domain of function, so the completion is an inefficient process because all three students were ignoring it to use. All three process for solving to the student’s academic culture, most common for emphasizing in learning related to the problem and their cognitive capacity.

Abstract

Many studies related to the use of Augmented Reality (AR) in the learning process. However, not many researchers have studied the effect of using AR on affective and cognitive aspects in terms of education level. To uncover this problem, the researcher uses a systematic literature review (SLR) design. In this study, the SLR stage consisted of four stages (1) problem formulation; (2) literature search; (3) identification of the type of research; (4) information retrieval. The findings of this study reveal that the use of AR technology has an effect on cognitive and affective aspects at the elementary and high school education levels. Middle school is the level of education that mostly applies AR technology. This study provides a recommendation that AR technology can be a medium for learning mathematics that can be applied by teachers and students at the primary and secondary education levels.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe profile of middle school students' mathematical literacy ability in Solving Number Pattern Problems. This study used a descriptive case study design with 29 students in grade VIII at a middle school in Kefamenanu city, Indonesia. Test and interviews were the methods to collect data about the mathematical literacy ability. To analysis data we used the Miles and Huberman models with stages namely reduction data, data presentation and conclusions as a technique. The results of the study concluded that the profile of middle school students' mathematical literacy ability in solving number pattern problems is in the high category. Students with high mathematical literacy abilities meet all indicators at 3 levels of mathematics literacy cognitive namely understanding level, implementation level and level reasoning. Students with medium mathematical literacy abilities were able to achieve indicators of the level of understanding, while for the level of application and reasoning not all indicators were achieved. Students with low mathematical literacy abilities are only able to reach the level of understanding indicators, while the level of application and level of reasoning has not been achieved.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the impact of the 6E-Instructional Model Integrated Augmented Reality in improving students' 3D geometric representation abilities. A type of quasi-experimental design, one group pretest-posttest, is used for objective research of answers. The subjects of this research were 8th-grade students at a private school in Indramayu Regency, Indonesia, totaling 288 students divided into eight classes. Based on this number, one class of class VIII B was selected as the research sample. Furthermore, the research instrument uses a geometric representation ability test. In addition, the data obtained from the test results were analyzed using the paired sample t-test. The research concluded that AR technology can be integrated into constructivist learning, including 6E Instructional Mode. Furthermore, based on the paired sample t-test, it was concluded that using 6E-IM integrated AR increased the 3D geometric representation abilities of class VIII students in one of the private schools in the Indramayu Regency. Therefore, this research provides a foundation for advanced learning in mathematics, especially regarding integrated technology and learning models.

Abstract

The use of e-modules in mathematics learning significantly aids both teachers and students in the teaching and learning process. However, the design of e-modules has not been extensively linked to the cultural context in which students live. Therefore, this study aims to explore and analyze the needs of teachers and students in developing culturally integrated e-modules, particularly those reflecting the culture of Papua, for high school students. The research design employed is phenomenological. Participants included Mathematics teachers for grades X, XI, and XII in Nduga Regency, Papua Highlands, and 64 high school students (42 male and 22 female). Data collected from observations and interviews were qualitatively analyzed using Miles-Huberman Interactive Analysis. Findings revealed that the high schools still use the 2013 curriculum, relying on standard textbooks as teaching materials. These textbooks pose problems for students as they are often uninteresting, use formal language, are difficult to understand due to abstract content, and are not contextualized to students' daily lives. Additionally, the reduction in face-to-face learning hours, due to the school's location in a conflict area, hampers effective teaching and learning processes. Another interesting finding is that high schools in Nduga Regency have not yet utilized technology in learning, despite having internet access. These findings imply the need for teaching materials integrated with technology and local culture to help students understand mathematics concepts and assist teachers in teaching both inside and outside the school.
