Abstract

Academic achievement reflects the level of success students achieve in college studies. Based on observation, a prominent factor that typically influence this metric is family roles, particularly through the mediation of noble character. Therefore, this research aims to examine the mediating role of noble character on the relationship between family roles and student academic achievement. In order to achieve the stated objective, 201 college students were selected using cluster stratified random sampling, which served as the sample in this explanatory quantitative research. Accordingly, three key variables observed during the course of the exploration include family function, noble character scales, and student cumulative achievement index. A mediation test was also carried out using Jamovi statistical software 2.0.0 to determine the relationship between the key variables. The obtained results from the test showed that family function did not directly influence educational achievement. Instead, it only determined academic achievement through the instillation of noble character in students. Based on this result, an inference was made that noble character significantly mediated the relationship between family function and academic achievement.

Abstract

This research discusses the revitalization of Gambang Semarang in the context of coastal culture as a strategy to preserve traditional arts through education and tourism approaches. As one of Semarang's distinctive art forms, Gambang Semarang reflects cultural acculturation and has excellent potential to be developed in art education and cultural tourism promotion. This research explores strategies for integrating Gambang Semarang into the education curriculum and its development as a cultural-based tourist attraction. The research used a qualitative approach with a case study method involving interviews with stakeholders, observations, and documentation studies in Semarang schools, arts communities, and tourist destinations. The results showed that experiential arts learning and arts community engagement contributed significantly to increasing students' appreciation of Gambang Semarang. In addition, cultural festivals and arts-based tourism programs are effective strategies for expanding Gambang Semarang's exposure to the public and tourists. However, challenges in regenerating young artists and limited promotion remain significant obstacles. The impact of this research shows that the synergy between education and tourism can be an innovative solution for the preservation of Semarang Gambang while contributing to the strengthening of the cultural identity of Semarang's coastal communities and increasing the attractiveness of local cultural tourism.

Abstract

Enhancing educational outcomes for underachieving gifted students, defined as those with an IQ ≥ 110 but mathematics scores below 80%, requires innovative teaching strategies. This study investigates the effectiveness of the Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) compared to conventional teaching for improving mathematics learning outcomes among underachieving gifted students. Using a experimental design with randomised pre-test and post-test groups, 60 students from class XII IPA at SMA Negeri 5 Surabaya were assigned to either the STAD (n=30) or control group (n=30). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and an independent t-test. The STAD group achieved a mean gain score of 39.633, compared to 27.267 for the control group, with a significant difference (t(58) = 7.380, p <0.001, d =1.91). These findings suggest STAD is effective for enhancing mathematics performance in this Indonesian population, supporting its use in collaborative learning contexts. Further research should explore long-term effects and additional outcomes.

Abstract

Effective speaking skills are crucial for academic success and future professional opportunities, making their development a key focus in educational settings. This research investigates the Think-Pair-Share (TPS) technique effectiveness in improving students’ speaking skills in giving and asking for opinions, addressing a significant need for practical cooperative learning strategies. This study used quantitative approach with quasi-experimental designs involving 68 eleventh-grade students in total at SMA Negeri 15 Semarang in the second semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, divided into two groups: an experimental group (n=35) and a control group (n=33). Both groups were given a pre-test, followed by treatments with three meetings in each. After the treatments, a post-test was administered to determine the effectiveness. Based on the data, the control group’s, taught using the group discussion achieved an average score of 72.36 and the experimental group, taught using the TPS techniqe, scored 86.17. The experimental group’s N-Gain score was 62.29, which is classified as "effective enough". The Sig. (2-tailed) on the Independent Sample T-test value of 0.000 <0.05 shows the TPS technique has improved the students’ speaking ability, particularly in giving and asking opinions at a high level. These findings confirm that the TPS technique can substantially enhance students’ speaking skills, particularly in giving and asking for opinions, fostering a more interactive and encouraging active participation in the EFL classroom.

Abstract

Environmental behavior is essential for maintaining environmental quality and human life. According to the rational perspective from Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), belief, personal norm, and perceived behavioral control (PBC) affect actions through behavioral intention. In the past two decades, TPB has become the most extensively discussed concept in explaining pro-environmental behavior (PEB) but still needs re-examination in the Indonesian context. Therefore, this research aimed to investigate how subjective norm (SN), attitude (ATT) towards PEB, and PBC influenced PEB through pro-environmental behavior intention (PEBI). An explanatory quantitative method was used including 264 students from Malang State University with the data analysis conducted and structural equation modeling path analysis. The results showed that attitude, SN, and PBC significantly and positively influenced PEB, primarily through behavior intention.

Abstract

The demands and pressures experienced by a single parent both from family and work can affect the level of work satisfaction. This can lead to work family conflict that occurs because of an imbalance between the role of a worker and the role of a family member. This research aims to determine the relationship between work family conflict and work satisfaction among single parent employees in Yogyakarta. The subjects of this research are 60 single parent employees. Purposive sampling were applied in this current research as the sampling technique. This research used two scales, namely work satisfaction scale (22 items; α = 0,853) and work family conflict scale (16 items; ; α = 0,810). Based on the results of the product moment correlation analysis, it was found that there was a significant relationship between work family conflict and work satisfaction (rxy) = -0.788 and p = 0.000. The higher the work family conflict, the lower the work satisfaction and conversely. The lower the work family conflict, the higher the work satisfaction among single parent employees. The value of the coefficient of determination (R2)  is 0.621 which indicates that the work family conflict variable provides an effective contribution of 62.1% to work satisfaction and the rest is influenced by other factors.

Abstract

Friendship is one of the forms of interpersonal relationship which may be experienced by people at some point in their lives. Friendships play larger roles when people move into adolescence, when peers begin to play larger roles. However, studies concerning friendship tend greatly to be focused upon mental health benefits for adolescents and their role as factors protective against mental health problems, predominantly internalizing disorder. Nonetheless, several of the latest pieces of research indicate that friendship does not always provide protection against internalizing disorder. Experts in the field of developmental psychopathology have recommended looking at the connection between friendships and internalizing disorder from a different viewpoint. Not just viewing friendships as protection against internalizing disorder, there are guidelines asking about the effects of internalizing disorder influencing friendships. This study attempted to delve deeper into whether the internalizing disorder such as depression and anxiety, regarding two indexes of the features of friendship (the positive features of friendship and the negative features of friendship), with non-clinical adolescents in the South East Asian context, involving 400 Indonesian participants (84% female adolescents; 16% male adolescents; Mage = 16.04) and 269 Malaysian participants (73% female adolescents; 27% male adolescents; Mage = 15.86). The results of hierarchical linear regression analysis indicated that the increase in depression rates predicted lower levels of the positive features of friendships and higher levels of the negative features of friendship. Meanwhile, an increase in anxiety predicted higher levels of the negative features of friendship. Besides this, there were no significant results from regression analysis regarding anxiety and the positive features of friendship. Additional findings and practical implications are discussed comprehensively.
