Abstract

Currently coal companies, especially in South Kalimantan, have not been yet or only slightly entered the post-mining stage, although part of the mining blocks have been totally exploited, so that the company should have been preparing for the development of other sectors (non-mining). It shows that optimization of coal resources from exploration, mining to post-mining land use is necessary to ensure sustainable mining and sustainable development in terms of meeting the conservation aspect. To meet all aspects of conservation, the achievement of optimization in a series of mining business activities is started from the potential optimization of the potential of the coal remain resources until the optimization of post-mining land use is absolutely required. This research has analyzed several alternative sectors outside mining, which will be selected for optimization of utilization or post-mining land use, including plantation, recreation, industry and conservation sectors. The analyzing process used several parameters to assess the selected sector including rainfall, slope and land use. Therefore, this study uses an approach of GIS-based methods (knowledge-driven), mainly fuzzy logic for post-mining land use planning. The selected mining area for this study belongs to PT. Wahana Baratama Mining company that has a Work Agreement for Coal Mining Exploitation. The result shows the suitability of plantation for the optimization of land use in all mining sites and also for conservation areas or protected forests. Keywords: Optimization, Land use, Post-mining, Fuzzy logic.

Abstract

The southern mountains of western Java have been known to have large gold deposit potential. The Mekarbakti area, located in Garut regency, is known to have gold-bearing quartz veins, but the distribution and characteristics of these veins are not well recorded. The purpose of this study is to determine the geological conditions of the deposits and the characteristics of the epithermal deposits in the study area, in term of alteration, ore mineralization, vein texture, and ore geochemistry. Field work includes random sampling of veins from surface outcrops and cores. Laboratory analysis includes mineragraphic, geochemical analysis by means of Fire Assay Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (FA-AAS) and Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES). The lithology of the Mekarbakti area is composed of volcanic rocks including andesite lava, andesite intrusion and pyroclastic rocks such as breccia and tuff. The mapping results show that the hydrothermal alteration that developed is divided into three zones of alteration type, namely the silicification zone (silica + - clay), the argillic zone (kaolinite + - smectite - illite) and the propylitic zone (chlorite - smectite - epidote - illite). Quartz texture is generally dominated by brecciated, colloform, comb, lattice bladed and cockade textures. The texture interpretation of the veins shows a crystalline quartz zone, which is enriched in base metals such as galena, sphalerite and chalcopyrite and a crustiform – colloform zone which usually contains gold and silver. Veins in the study area contain the elevated grades of 3.21 ppm Au and 75.5 ppm Ag.

Abstract

Abstract –– Tambang Sawah Area, Lebong Regency, Bengkulu Province, is geologically located in the Barisan mountains and Sumatra fault zone. The prospect of Tambang Sawah area lies in the physiography of the central Sumatran mountains ranges composed by the igneous rocks of the Sunda – Banda magmatic arc. This study is aimed to understand the deposit geology and ore characteristics of the gold deposit at the study area. Quartz vein mineralization of Tambang Sawah occurred in granite rock intruded into andesitic breccia rocks, with the geological structure of mineralization control in the form of joint, breccia, dike, and fault, namely the Ketahun fault that forms extentional fracture zones which were filled by hydrothermal fluid in form of quartz veins. Hydrothermal alterations that appear at the study site are typical types of alterations found in epithermal gold deposits, namely, argillic, silicified and propylitic. Sulfide minerals markers of low sulfidation epithermal type gold deposits found, namely, pyrite, calcopyrite, covelite, sphalerite and galena with colloform vein texture, cockade-crustiform, moss, and brecciated texture. Gold is interpreted to be derived from the deposition of sulfide minerals and the deposition of quartz veins, the level of gold in rocks and veins varies greatly with an average 4,8 ppm. Based on the results of ore geochemical analysis of positively correlated gold with elements Ag, Cu, Pb and Zn. Keywords: Mineralization, low sulfidation epithermal gold, Tambang Sawah, Lebong, Bengkulu.

Abstract

Iha – Luhu area is located in the western part of Seram Island, which is about 59.2 km from city of Piru. Geographically, it is located at 128o0’35” to 128o2’42”East Longitude and 3o20’40” s.d 3o22’05”South Latitude and is included in Huamual sub-district, West Seram Regency, Maluku. Stratigraphy of Iha – Luhu is composed of metapelitic rock and low grade metamorphic lithologies, namely meta quartz – muscovite sandstone units and quartz – muscovite phyllite unit and is unconformaby covered by alluvial deposits. Research area consists of three hydrothermal alteration zones which are mentioned as illite±kaolinite alteration zone, illite±chlorite alteration zone and Illit±smectite±kaolinite alteration zone. Illite±kaolinite alteration zone is characterized by assemblage of clay minerals, presumably illite and kaolinite. This alteration is associated with quartz-muscovite meta-siltstone and dominant occurred to quartz-muscovite meta-sandstone. Intensity of alteration is moderate to strong altered which mainly describing percentage of alteration mineral presence more than 75%. Based on assemblage of kaolinite and illite alteration minerals thus illite±kaolinite alteration zone was formed at temperatures <220o-300o C. Illite±chlorite alteration zone is associated with fracture-related mineralization and disseminated enrichment of cinnabar ore deposits where alteration pattern is a pervasive alteration show. This zone is characterized by presence of mica (illite) clay mineral and chlorite and quartz as well. Illite±chlorite alteration is more dominantly associated with quartz-muscovite phyllite and quartz-muscovite meta-siltstone and spread over in the middle of Bukit Tembaga. Formation Temperature of this alteration zone is estimated at 250o – 300o C. Illite±smectite±kaolinite alteration zone spread widely on top of Bukit Tembaga to lowlands and reaching area of > 9.6 Km2. This alteration covers illite ± chlorite and illite ± kaolinite alterations with pervasive alteration pattern and strong altered alteration. Clay in this zone occurred due to alteration of muscovite/sericite and plagioclase minerals. Presence of smectite in this alteration zone reflects vertical depth that is relatively far from ore zone or at top of formation with temperature tend to be lower than illite and kaolinite minerals. Formation temperature of this alteration zone is estimated at 220o-300o C.

Abstract

The prospect of Gunung Lipan is located in Rorowatu District, Bombana Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province.  Physiographically it is situated in the Rumbia mountains, which is occupied by the metamorphic rocks of Pompageo complex. The Gunung Lipan is a prospect which has potential to produce gold mineralization in the Rumbia Mountains. However, a detailed research has never been carried out, in which the latest research is still on regional scale. Therefore, this study aims to understand more details about the geological conditions, alteration types and mineralization characteristics of the prospect and its surroundings. The research methods include geological mapping, petrographic analysis to determine type of hostrock, ore microscopy analysis to determine sulfide minerals in rocks/veins, and ore geochemistry to determine metal content in rocks and veins. Gold mineralization in the Gunung Lipan is hosted by mica schist, and controlled by sinistral shear fault in form of shear zone. The fault movement in the field is indicated by the presence of a milonite structure in the rock and the texture of mica fish on microscopic observations. The hydrothermal alteration appears at the study area is a typical type of alteration found in orogenic gold deposits such as silicification, carbonatization, and carbonization, argillic and propylitic. The sulfide minerals of orogenic type of gold deposit occurred in this study consist of stibnite, sinnabar, tripuhyite, pyrite, arsenopyrite, and hematite. Sulphide minerals are present in rocks and veins in disseminated form. Based on the results of geochemical analysis of gold content ranging from 0.005 ppm to 1.25 ppm, high grade gold was found in quartz veins that cross-cut foliation and veins with brecciated texture. Correlation of metallic elements using multivariate statistical methods shows that gold is positively correlated with As, Sb, and Hg, negatively correlated with Ag, and base metal elements (Pb, Zn, and Cu) are not abundant and are depleted when there is an increase in degree of metamorphism, which obviously implies a typical characteristics of orogenic gold deposit.

Abstract

Gold deposits in the West Java area, especially South Garut, enter the hydrothermal system due to Quaternary volcanic activity (Gaffar, 2017). Quartz is the main component of hydrothermal system deposits. Quartz veins have an important role in texture formation which can be used to determine the formation process and texture correlation with ore minerals (Dong et al, 1995). Quartz texture relationship in the study area is interesting to study because it becomes a reference in determining the prospect zone for the presence of precious metals as well as a reference for further exploration. For this reason, the purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between quartz texture and the presence of precious metals and base metals in the study area. The research area is in the Mekarbakti Village area, Bungbulang District, Garut Regency, West Java Province. The study area is included in the Jampang formation which is not aligned with the younger undecomposed unit (Qtv), the lithology of the study area is andesite lava, andesite breccia, lapilli, tuff, andesite intrusion and volcanic deposits. This study uses 3 methods, namely detailed field observations, ore microscopy analysis on seven samples DER_004, DER_005, DER_031, DER_001, DER_003, DER_014, DER_030 and analysis of Fire Assay Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (FA-AAS) and Inductively Coupled Plasma – Optical Emission Spectrometry. (ICP-OES) on seven samples DC_000087, DC_000073, DC_000030, DC_000053, DC_000048, MC_000081, DC_000082. From the results of field activities and laboratory analysis, the texture of the research area is divided into seven textures, namely cockade, lattice bladed, saccharoidal, banded comb, brecciated, colloform. The geochemistry of the ore in the study area has a fairly high grade and is associated with quartz vein textures, including brecciated Au texture 3.21 ppm, Ag 74.7 ppm, collorform Au texture 2.605 ppm, Ag 22.9 ppm, lattice bladed Au texture 1.625 ppm, Ag 2.3 ppm, saccharoidal Au texture 1.465 ppm, Ag 1.2 ppm, banded texture Au 1.257 ppm, Ag 2.3, cockade texture Au 0.079 ppm, Ag 2.7 ppm and comb texture Au 0.021 ppm, Ag 1 ppm, on the texture the presence of precious metals was observed and abundant base metals. The texture of the quartz veins in the study area, when compared with the calcifications of Morison, et al 1990, falls into the crystalline quartz zone and the crusstiform – colloform zone.

Abstract

The characteristics of the ore deposit will be greatly influenced by the geological conditions of the area. Surface manifestations of an ore deposit can be identified by the presence of alteration and mineralization zones. The study of alteration zones and mineralization will assist in making an exploration plan for an ore deposit. The purpose of this study is to determine the geological conditions in more detail, and the potential for ore deposits in the study area by alteration, mineralization, and rock geochemistry. Field data collection techniques include geological mapping, and laboratory analysis includes geochemical analysis using the Fire Assay Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (FA-AAS) method. The study shows that the lithology of the study area is volcanic rocks composed of andesitic intrusive rocks, diorite rocks, granite rocks, and pyroclastic rocks in the form of breccias. Hydrothermal alteration that develops in the study area can be divided into four zones of alteration type, namely: silicification zone (quartz ± kaolin ± pyrite), argillic zone (kaolin ± quartz), inner propylitic zone (quartz ± chlorite ± epidote ± albite ± pyrite), and outer propylitic zone (quartz ± chlorite ± epidote). Based on the lithology and type of alteration found, it is known that the type of deposit in the study area is part of Cu-Au porphyry deposits in the retrograde and post-mineral alteration stages based on the model of Corbett (1854). Mineralization potential in the study area includes pyrite-sulfide potential, hematite potential with paramagnetic properties, and hematite oxide potential. The results of the geochemical analysis showed that the research area had the highest levels of 0.02 ppm Au, 0.8 ppm Ag, 20 ppm Cu, and Fe <100 ppm.
