Abstract

Senepo area is one of several epithermal mineralization prospects in Southern Mountains of Java Island. This study is aimed to investigate the geological framework and hydrothermal alteration of the prospect as well as to characterize the low sulphidation (LS) epithermal vein including vein textures, ore mineral, ore chemistry and hydrothermal fluid that are responsible for the formation of the quartz vein. Detailed field mapping was completed to understand the geological framework and hydrothermal alteration zones. Petrographic, ore microscopic, XRD and AAS analyses were applied to characterize the quartz vein. The study area is occupied by pebbly sandstone, andesite breccia, andesite units and alluvial deposit. Ore mineralization is mainly hosted by andesite of Oligo-Miocene of Watupatok Formation. The host-rock has been suffered by overprinted hydrothermal alteration and weathering. The epithermal veins are found as N-S-trending quartz veins with a thickness of 1-2 meters. These veins show massive texture, crustiform, cockade, druzy, comb, and disseminated sulphides, which is included in Crystalline Quartz Zonation (X). Optical microscopy and XRD analysis indicate that these veins contain several ore minerals such as chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena, pyrite, hematite, covellite and malachite, associated with gangue mineral including quartz, felspar, chlorite and clay minerals. AAS analysis displays variable chemical composition of precious and base metals such as Au (17-37 ppb), Ag (8.1-32.6 ppm), Cu (122.1-81,450 ppm), Pb (35.4-883.6 ppm) and Zn (18.3-2,628 ppm). Gold and silver are relatively low compared to the base metals. Fluid inclusion micro thermometric analysis indicates that ore mineralization originated at temperatures of 187-263 oC and salinity of 0.18-0.53 % wt. NaCl eq. This salinity corresponds with a minimum hydrostatic pressure of about 10-55.1 bars. Based on those characteristic data, mineralized quartz veins in the study area are classified into a base metal horizon of LS epithermal system.

Abstract

Currently coal companies, especially in South Kalimantan, have not yet been or only slightly entered the post-mining stage, although part of the mining blocks have been totally exploited, so that the company should have been preparing for the development of other sectors (non-mining). It shows that optimization of coal resources from exploration, mining to post-mining land use is necessary to ensure sustainable mining and sustainable development in terms of meeting the conservation aspect. To meet all aspects of conservation, the achievement of optimization in a series of mining business activities is started from the potential optimization of the coal remain resources until the optimization of post-mining land use is absolutely required. This research has analyzed several alternative sectors outside mining, which will be selected for optimization of utilization or post-mining land use, including plantation, recreation, industry and conservation sectors. The analyzing process used several parameters to assess the selected sectors including rainfall, slope and land use. Therefore, this study uses an approach of GIS-based methods (knowledge-driven), mainly fuzzy logic for post-mining land use planning. The selected mining area for this study belongs to PT. Adaro Indonesia company that has a Work Agreement for Coal Mining Exploitation. The result shows the suitability of plantation for the optimization of land use in all mining sites and also for conservation areas or protected forests.

Abstract

Halmahera Island retains several gold deposits. One of the gold deposits is called as low sulphidation epithermal (LSE) quartz veins which is currently being mined and is situated in the Gosowong goldfield. The veins mostly originated in N-S and NNE-SSW direction. This study is aimed to determine the prospect area in the northern portion of Gosowong goldfield covering the West Kao sub district based on surface mapping and rock/float- and BLEG stream sediment survey. A total of 16 rock/vein float and 120 BLEG samples were analyzed by FA/AAS and CNO2 cyanide leach methods, respectively. The study area is occupied by tuffaceous sandstone, andesite, porphyritic andesite and lava andesite units. In the eastern part, tuffaceous sandstone is suffered from argillic and propylitic alteration, which may be controlled by the NW-SE-trending structures. The gold grade of rock/float samples is up to 0.044 ppm. BLEG data indicates a calculated threshold of 10 ppb for Au and 72 ppb for Ag. The highest Au and Ag contents (anomalies) are identified in the eastern part of the study area. This is spatially (and maybe genetically) related to the argillic-altered tuffaceous sandstone, structures and occurrences of quartz vein floats. To follow up this finding, a detailed exploration is recommended to be conducted within the prospect area.

Abstract

Soil elements, based on their abundance in the earth's crust and petrogenetic analysis aim to divide soil elements into several groups, namely major elements, trace elements and rare earth elements (REE). The research location is located in the Beruang Kanan area, Tumbang Miri District, Gunung Mas Regency, Central Kalimantan Province. The major elements and trace elements of the host rock were obtained from X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis and Plasma-Coupled Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) methods. Volcanic rocks from the Kanan Bear prospect The volcanic magmatic affinity in the study area is calc-alkaline this chemical characteristic is clearly reflected by the type of volcanic rock which is determined based on its chemical classification, which is generally igneous rock of the calc-alkaline magma series type so it is interpreted to originate from a convergent tectonic environment continental edge.

Abstract

The zircon mineral is one of the accessory minerals within igneous rocks for its ability to resist hydrothermal and metamorphic processes. By examining their morphology and texture, zircon minerals can provide valuable insights into magma's petrogenesis, including temperature and composition. Two methods used to reach the research objectives include Petrography and SEM-CL analysis of the zircon grain from the diorite porphyry of the HLE prospect. On the basis of Petrography observation, the grain size of zircon ranges from 50 to 300 µm in size, and most have a transparent to grey color with prismatic, non-prismatic euhedral-subhedral elliptical, and non-prismatic rounded in shape. The zircon crystal typologies from the diorite porphyry are classified into S10, P2, S12, S13, S16, and S17 types, indicating the wide range of the crystallization temperature of zircon, ranging from 700 to 800 °C. The zircon from the diorite porphyry of the HLE prospect shows the medium values of pyramids typology, which is {101} = {211}. It corresponds to a medium Al/Na + K ratio (A index) value, indicating zircon as a product from the calc-alkaline magmas series. The trend of the calc-alkaline/sub-alkaline in typology suggests crustal sources mixed with mantle material. Furthermore, based on SEM-CL analysis the zircon shows dominantly oscillatory zoning with thin bands, and some grains show weak zoning in the outer core, typical of magmatic zircon. Moreover, the presence of lamellae texture of magnetite-ilmenite mineral under the scanning electron microscopy (BSE image) can be interpreted as the magma related to the high oxidizing magma.

Abstract

Nanoparticle technology has been widely used in various industries because of its advantages in particle size control systems. One example of the use of nanoparticle technology is copper nanoparticles as an antibacterial material. This research focuses on the utilization of leaching waste as a material for the synthesis of copper nanoparticles. The synthesis of copper nanoparticles was carried out by chemical reduction method between chalcopyrite stone leaching waste namely CuSO4 as precursor, Cetyl Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide (CTAB) as surfactant and NaBH4 reducing agent. The synthesized material will be analyzed using UV-Vis spectroscopy. Furthermore, the particle size will be estimated using PSA and its antibacterial properties will be analyzed using the well diffusion method by looking at the effectiveness of the inhibitory power against Escherichia coli FNCC 0049 and Staphylococcus bacteria aureus FNCC 0047. The results of the synthesis obtained the smallest size of 235.7 nm from the ratio of precursor concentration, reducing agent concentration and, a surfactant concentration of 1:20:8. The results of the synthesis of copper nanoparticles with concentrations of 10.000 ppm showed the presence of inhibitory power to overcome Escherichia coli FNCC 0049 and Staphylococcus bacteria aureus FNCC 0047.

Abstract

In the process of flotation of copper-bearing ore, several factors such as the concentration of the collector used and the pH of the fluid used can have an impact. In this study, observations were made on the influence of collector concentration and pH on the recovery of copper ores from Papua, Indonesia. The ore samples were obtained from three different site. Preparation of samples were conducted by crushing and sieving to obtain solid particles with a size of +200 mesh. The fine particles then fed into froth flotation device. Froth flotation operations were carried out at different operating condition namely pH (pH 3, pH 6, and pH 9), xanthate concentration (1300, 2000, and 2600 ppm), and time (3, 5, 7, and 14 minutes). The froth and tailings were collected separately and dried in an oven at 60oC. The feed, froth, and tailings were then subjected to EDX analysis to determine their compositions. The results of the experiment showed that higher collector concentrations did not necessarily lead to increased copper recovery. The appropriate pH conditions, however, could optimize copper recovery. The optimum conditions obtained from this experiment were xanthate concentration of 2000 ppm, pH of 3, and the ore sample 2

Abstract

In the future, phytomining will be an environmentally friendly alternative mining technology. Therefore, the exploration of vegetation types having the potential as hyperaccumulators in gold phytomining needs to be carried out. This study aimed to (1) investigate the effect of rock/soil mineralogy characteristics and Au content on the diversity of vegetation types at gold mine sites, and (2) determine the type of potential hyperaccumulator vegetation as a phytomining agent based on the Biological Concentration Factor (BCF). This study was conducted at the Ratatotok gold mine in North Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. The sampling locations consisted of 3 sites, i.e., Bulex, Yance, and Leon, and each site consisted of 5 sampling plots. Soil samples were taken from each sampling plot and then tested for gold content using the ICP-MS method and mineral content using the XRD method. Mineralized bedrock samples were also taken for mineralogical analysis through petrography. Data analysis of soil geochemistry was carried out descriptively. Quantitative descriptive analysis was also carried out to determine the dominant type of vegetation, which was potential for hyperaccumulators at the mine site. The results showed that gold content in the soil affected the diversity of vegetation, which was possibly due to gold stress, which affected plant growth. Based on the BCF value, three local plant species having potential as gold hyperaccumulators with moderate bioaccumulation ability (BCF>0.1-1) were found, namely Pteris vittata, Syzygium aromaticum, and Swietenia mahagoni. However, the use of these plants as phytomining agents requires further research.

Abstract

The Kujang Pb-Zn skarn deposit is known to be the newest skarn deposit found in the Sunda-Banda magmatic arc. The skarn orebodies are mostly hosted by limestone which might be the part of the Jampang Formation where dacite porphyry is interpreted to be the ore causative intrusion. Orebodies are mostly found at the contact between marbleized limestone and volcanic rocks and are controlled by NW-SE-trending strike-slip faults. Previous research on the mineralogy and ore characteristics of the Kujang Prospect remains limited on the preliminary studies. Using fieldwork data, petrography, ore microscopy, and assay data from core samples, this study is aimed to characterize the mineralogy of both alteration and ore of the deposit. The alteration of the Kujang Prospect skarn can be divided into 2 phases of alteration i.e. prograde and retrograde. The prograde alteration is characterized by the occurrence of clinopyroxene, wollastonite, and vesuvianite. Garnet is present in very rare amounts. the retrograde alteration is typified by epidote, chlorite, calcite and actinolite. Metalliferous minerals are represented by sphalerite, galena, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and pyrite. All ore minerals are formed at the early retrograde stage. the deposit’s average grade is 2.06% Pb, 6.45% Zn and 1.81% Cu.
