Abstract

The research area is located in the southern part of Seram Island, Maluku, which is at an elevation of 3 to 675 meters above sea level; is composed of metapelites to low-grade metamorphic rocks, coralline limestone and alluvial deposits. The purpose of this investigation is to study geological control, mineralization characteristics and ore geochemistry of Au±basemetal deposit in Tamilouw – Haya. Investigation activities began with literature review, field investigations for sampling, geological mapping, alteration & mineralization and laboratory analysis which including polish sections and ore geochemistry (FA/AAS). Based on the results of investigation, it shows that mineralization in Tamilouw - Haya is associated with 3 type of veins, namely quartz veins (V1) that parallel to the foliation plane (concordant), quartz veins that cutting through foliation plane (V2) and third generation veins (V3) are quartz ±carbonate veins associated with breccia - stockwork and formed at the end of veins formation. Massive texture is found in most of the veins, especially those with relatively large dimensions. Vein filling minerals are dominated by quartz, sulfide minerals and precious metals while dominant sulfide veins consist of pyrite and arsenopyrite. Metal sulfide mineralizations at Tamilouw – Haya are pyrite, gold, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena, pyrhotite, tetrahydrite, tenantite, marcasite, arsenopyrite, sinabar, kalininite and realgar. Gold grades reaching 0.006 to 7.45 ppm.

Abstract

This research aims to identify hydrothermal mineral deposits using geomagnetic methods. The geomagnetic method used to obtain anomaly of magnetic field intensity contrast. Furthermore, there is also been conducted taking and analysis samples of rock using petrography, ore microscopic and XRD. It is done to obtain mineralogical characteristics of hydrothermal mineral deposits that becoming the exploration target. The results showed that hydrothermal mineral deposits in research area was characterized by hydrothermal alteration of argillic (kaoline-illite), propylitic (calcite-chlorite) and skarn (quatrz-calcite-pyroxine/ clinopyroxine). Ore minerals are present of sulphide minerals such as pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, covelit and oxide minerals such as hematite abundance. The existence of hydrothermal mineral deposits are associated with skarn type deposit. Zones of mineral deposits of metallic ores are characterized by a significant contrast magnetic anomalies with high magnetic field intensity higher than 110,31 nT on the total magnetic intensity anomaly and higher than 11,09 nT on the residual magnetic intensity anomaly, as the response from the presence of metal in the ore mineral enrichment of rock material.keywords : hydrothermal minerals, magnetic field anomaly, petrography, ore microscopic, XRD skarn, Kasihan

Abstract

Recently, gold exploration activities  are not only focused along volcanic-magmatic belt but also starting to shift along metamorphicand sedimentary terrains. The purpose of this study is to analyses the characteristics hydrothermal fluids gold deposits t in the Rumbia Mountains, Bombana Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. There are three generations of veins identified including the first is parallel to the foliations, the second crosscuts the first generation of veins/foliations, and the third is of laminated deformed quartz+calcite veins at the late stage. Temperature of homogenization (Th) and salinity at Rumbia Mountain of the first vein vary from 220 to 355.30oC and 6.74 to 10.11 wt. % NaCl eq., respectively. The second generation vein was originated at Th of 157 to 255.50oC and salinity of 3.39 to 6.88 wt.%NaCl eq., whereas the third generation vein formed at lowest Th varying from 104.40 to 265.90oC and less saline fluid at salinity range between 0.18 and 6.30 wt.% NaCl eq. The result of temperature formation value correlation to the depth of the formation of orogenic gold deposits in Rumbia Mountain is indicated to form on sub-greenschist to greenschist facies at depth of about 4-8 kilometers and formation temperature between 104.40 - 355.30oC at zone epizonal and mesozonal. Based on characteristics fluids inclusion discussed above, the primary metamorphic-hosted gold mineralization type at Rumbia Mountain tends to meet the criteria of orogenic gold type.  Keyword : fluid iclusion, quartz veins, Rumbia mountain, orogenic gold deposits.

Abstract

Penyelidikan ini dilakukan di Pegunungan Rumbia, Kabupaten Bombana, Provinsi Sulawesi Tenggara. Tujuan studi ini adalah untuk menganalisis protolit batuan metamorf di daerah Pegunungan Rumbia. Metode penyelidikan yang digunakan adalah studi pustaka, pekerjaan lapangan, analisis laboratorium dengan metode petrografi dan ICP-AES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy) serta interpretasi data. Hasil penyelidikan menunjukkan bahwa protolit batuan metamorf di Pegunungan Rumbia berasal dari batuan sedimen, yakni batuan pelitik dan greywacke pada fasies sekis hijau dengam derajat metamorfisme mulai sangat rendah hingga sedang.Katakunci: Batuan sedimen, greywacke, pelitik, protolit, sekis hijau.

Abstract

Tamilouw-Haya terletak di bagian selatan Pulau Seram, Provinsi Maluku yang berada pada elevasi 3 - 675 m di atas permukaan laut. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kondisi geomorfologi, stratigrafi dan stuktur geologi di wilayah penyelidikan. Tahapan penyelidikan menggunakan kajian studi pustaka, kegiatan lapangan (fieldwork), analisis petrografi, serta interpretasi peta DEM (digital elevation model). Dari hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa geomorfologi daerah ini terdiri atas 2 (dua) satuan morfologi, yaitu satuan perbukitan rendah berlereng sangat landai - curam dan satuan dataran rendah. Tatanan stratigrafi dibagi menjadi 5 (lima) satuan batuan yang terdiri atas satuan filit kuarsa-muskovit, satuan batusabak kuarsa-muskovit, satuan meta-batupasir kuarsa-muskovit, satuan batugamping koral dan endapan aluvial. Struktur geologi yang berkembang merupakan lipatan antiklin serta liniasi yang berarah utara baratlaut - selatan tenggara dan timurlaut - baratdaya yang membentuk sesar geser mengiri (sinistral) dan menganan (dekstral). Katakunci: Geomorfologi, liniasi, lipatan antklin, stratigrafi, struktur geologi.

Abstract

Lokasi penyelidikan terletak dibagian barat Pulau Seram dan tersusun oleh batuan metapelitik dan batuan metamorf berderajat rendah. Latar belakang dilakukannya penyelidikan ini disebabkan oleh masih minimnya studi mengenai karakteristik sifat kimia-fisik fluida hidrotermal pembentuk bijih endapan sinabar yang berasosiasi dengan batuan metamorf di Pulau Seram. Sejarah tekanan - temperatur selama proses mineralisasi oleh inklusi fluida menyiratkan asal fluida sumber bijih serta evolusinya selama mineralisasi. Metode penyelidikan menggunakan pemetaan geologi (fieldwork) yang dipadukan dengan mikrotermometri inklusi fluida. Lebih dari 61 inklusi fluida diukur untuk mendapatkan data mikrotermometrik menggunakan alat Linkam THMSG 600 freezing and heating stages. Inklusi fluida primer dari 2 tipe endapan sinabar yang berbeda di Iha – Luhu mengkristal pada temperatur homogenisasi (Th) 261 s.d 336°C dengan salinitas fluida dari 0,70 s.d 4.65% berat NaCl.ek serta temperatur leleh (Tm) sebesar -0,4 s.d -2,4°C. Fluida pembentuk bijih terdiri dari inklusi dua fase (VCO2 + LH2O) yang kaya akan cairan ditandai dengan kandungan CO2 yang rendah hingga tinggi serta bersalinitas rendah dan temperatur sedang. Terdapat 3 jenis urat kuarsa yang mewakili 2 tipe endapan sinabar di Iha – Luhu. Urat kuarsa tipe 1 (V1), konkordan dan merupakan endapan sinabar disseminated yang terbentuk pada suhu 264 s.d 307°C dengan salinitas 1,22 s.d 2,57 wt.% NaCl ek. Urat kuarsa tipe 2 (V2), diskordan, berasosiasi dengan endapan metasinabar serta terbentuk pada temperatur berkisar 293 s.d 331°C dan salinitas menunjukkan nilai 2.67 s.d 4.65 wt.% NaCl ek. Sedangkan urat tipe 3 adalah urat kuarsa (V3) yang berasosiasi dengan sinabar yang memotong foliasi batuan yang terbentuk pada temperatur 261-336°C dan salinitas 0,70 s.d 2,90 wt.% NaCl ek. DOI: 10.17014/ijog.5.1.47-64This study aims to understand the petrography and chemistry of both magmatic and hydrothermal biotites in porphyry copper-gold deposits, and to evaluate the fluid compositional changes during alteration processes. A total of 206 biotite grains from selected rock samples taken from the Batu Hijau porphyry Cu-Au deposit was analyzed. Detailed petrography and biotite chemistry analysis were performed on thin sections and polished thin sections, respectively, representing various rocks and alteration types. A JEOL JXA-8900R electron microprobe analyzer (EMPA) was used for the chemistry analysis. The biotite is texturally divided into magmatic and hydrothermal types. Ti, Fe, and F contents can be used to distinguish the two biotite types chemically. Some oxide and halogen contents of biotite from various rocks and alteration types demonstrate a systematic variation in chemical composition. Biotite halogen chemistry shows a systematic increase in log (XCl/XOH) and decrease in log (XF/XOH) values from biotite (potassic) through chlorite-sericite (intermediate argillic) to actinolite (inner propylitic) zones. The y-intercepts on the log (XCl/XOH) vs. XMg and log (XF/XOH) vs. XFe plotted for biotite from potassic and intermediate argillic zones are similar or slightly different. In contrast, the y-intercepts on the log (XCl/XOH) vs. XMg and log (XF/XOH) vs. XFe plotted for biotite from inner propylitic zone display different values in comparison to the two alteration zones. Halogen (F,Cl) fugacity ratios in biotite show a similar pattern: in the potassic and intermediate argillic zones they show little variation, whereas in the inner propylitic zone they are distinctly different. These features suggest the hydrothermal fluid composition remained fairly constant in the inner part of the deposit during the potassic and intermediate argillic alteration events, but changed significantly towards the outer part affected by inner propylitic alteration. High halogen content, particularly Cl, in hydrothermal biotite may portray that copper and gold were transported in mineralizing fluids in the form of chloride complexes CuCl2- and AuCl2-, respectively.

Abstract

DOI: 10.17014/ijog.8.1.39-58The presence of lamprophyric lavas of Late Cenozoic in Talaya Volcanic Formation at the boundary between the subregencies of Mamuju and Tabulahan (Western Sulawesi) associated with the mantle enrichment rocks of the Adang Volcanics is the subject of this study. Petrologically, lamprophyre is composed of orthopyroxene (enstatite), clinopyroxene (augite), biotite, leucite, amphibole, magnetite, and autometasomatism of chlorite in grain minerals and groundmass. The lamprophyre is classified into monchiquite shoshonitic lamprophyre, and it has a komatiitic composition with the ratio of MgO/Al2O3 > 0.7906 (in wt %). The komatiitic monchiquite lamprophyre is characterized by high MgO (10.02 - 12.67 %), relatively low alumina (Al2O3= 10.98 - 11.70 %), SiO2= 46.43 - 47.8 %, TiO2 (0.84 - 1.00 %), FeOt (7.75 - 7.88 %), and relatively high content of alkaline (Na2O: 2.20 - 2.59 %; K2O: 1.58 - 2.45 %; Total alkali: 4.00 - 4.89 %, and CaO (9.29 - 10.71 %). The geochemical trace element plots using various diagrams suggests the geotectonic setting of the lamprophyric rock was formed in suprasubduction alkaline continental-arc, and the proposed source of magmatism comes from the suprasubduction activities from the east. The protolith of magma was originated from partial melting of depleted MORB mantle (DMM), composed of pyroxene-peridotite (garnet-lherzolite). The partial melting conditions are suggested to occur at high pressure (3.5 - 3.8 GPa) and the depth of ~120 km with melting temperature of >1350°C, and the magma is dominantly controlled by olivine fractional crystallization.

DOI:10.17014/ijog.8.2.177-196The discrimination of magmatic alkalinity is a classic study that has never stopped for the past ninety years. Various methodologies have been developed since Shand’s classification using the method of alumina saturation to approach silica saturation and the methodology without involving alumina and silica such as K2O vs. Na2O and others, while the aim is to find out the evolution of alkalinity during the magmatic differentiation. The classical magmatic alkalinity evolution has been known as a castic magma alkalinity evolution, where the initial magma in the form of magma-X(a) will evolve along the stages of differentiation and remain a derivative of the initial magma {magmaX(a)}. The same philosophy is also explained in the ternary AFM diagram. Is the magmatic differentiation, followed by fractional crystallization, always an evolution of alkalinity based on caste? This question often raises current debates. This study takes the example of cogenetic volcanic and albitites. The application of the cogenetic volcanic using the selected diagram, which is ‘Three in one an overlaid diagram’. The output of the diagram presents the differentiation of magma which based on the evolution of Mg-series and Fe-series in a discontinuous branch of Bowen 1922 that can take place the castic and cross-castic, e.g. (a) from Mg-series to Mg-series {castic}, (b) from Mg-series to Feseries {cross-castic}, (c) from high-Mg tholeiitic basalt to calc-alkaline series {cross-castic}, (d) from Fe-series to Fe-series {castic}. While the evolution of magmatic alkalinity based on the continuous branch and refer to Trapezoid model generally occurring a cross-castic, e.g. (A) from sodic calc-alkaline to sodic alkaline-calcic, (B) from sodic calc-alkaline to shoshonitic alkaline-calcic, (C) from sodic calc-alkaline to potassic calc-alkaline, (D) from potassic calc-alkaline to shoshonitic alkaline-calcic, (E) sodic alkaline-calcic to sodic alkaline/peralkaline, (F) shoshonitic alkaline-calcic to potassic/ultrapotassic alkaline-calcic (cross-castic in subalkaline), (G) shoshonitic/potassic alkalinecalcic to shoshonitic/potassic alkaline/peralkaline. In this study, Fossa delle Felci volcanics (Italy) shows the evolution of magma from Mg-series to Mg-series, but the evolution of alkalinity of magma reveals the cross-caste (from sodic calc-alkaline to shoshonitic alkaline-calcic). Salak volcanics (Western Jawa) shows the evolution of magma from the Mg-series to Fe-series (cross-castic), and also the cross-castic in the evolution of alkalinity from sodic calc-alkaline to alkaline-calcic. Gothara albitites (India) clearly reveal the sodic-rich alkaline, which the magma generates from the evolution of sodic alkaline-calcic to sodic alkaline without the presence of potassic.

DOI:10.17014/ijog.8.2.157-175This paper describes the results of surficial geological and alteration mapping combined with several laboratory analyses, including petrography, ore microscopy, ore geochemistry, and fluid inclusion studies, aimed at establishing the nature of mineralization and alteration in the Cibeber area, West Java, Indonesia, and developing a genetic model. The area forms part of the Bayah Dome Complex, which hosts several gold-silver deposits. It is underlain by andesitic lava, tuff breccia, and subordinate sandstone. Its structural framework consists of joints, normal faults, NE-SW dextral strike slip faults, and NW-SE strike-slip faults. Hydrothermal alteration can be divided into four types, viz. silicification, clay-silica, argillic, and propylitic. Mineralization is mostly hosted in quartz veins showing a variety of textures, including massive, colloform-crustiform, breccia, lattice bladed, comb, and saccharoidal. Ore minerals consist of native gold and silver, pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena, tennantite-tetrahedrite, covellite, malachite, hematite, and goethite, while the gangue minerals quartz, illite, epidote, and calcite. Four stages of mineralization/veining are recognized: early, middle (the main ore forming stage), late, and supergene. The highest obtained metal grades are 8.17 ppm Au, 113.6 ppm Ag, 1.23% Cu, 1.28% Pb, and 1.2% Zn. Fluid inclusions from mineralized veins yielded temperatures of 222 - 280°C and salinities of 0.36 - 1.31 wt.% NaCl eq. The hydrothermal fluids are interpreted to have been largely of meteoric origin with the mineralization having formed at a depth of about 258 - 270 m below paleosurface. Both low-sulphidation and intermediate-sulphidation styles of mineralization are present.
