Abstract

Volleyball is a sport that involves a great deal of jumping and landing. These movements carry a relatively high risk of injury, particularly to the ankles. Improper landing techniques can cause loss of balance and increase the likelihood of injury among athletes. Based on observations of female volleyball athletes from the Cipalima Club in Merangin Regency, it was found that some athletes still employ poor landing techniques, such as insufficient knee bending upon landing, unstable body balance, and uneven body weight distribution. This study aims to analyze the biomechanics of landing and the risk of ankle injury among female volleyball athletes from the Cipalima Club in Merangin Regency. This study employs a quantitative approach using a descriptive method. The subjects of this study are the female volleyball athletes of the Cipalima Club in Merangin Regency. Data collection was conducted through observation and measurement using several instruments, namely the Landing Error Scoring System (LESS) to assess landing technique errors, the Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT) to measure dynamic balance, and the Ankle Injury Risk Index (AIRI) to determine the level of ankle injury risk among the athletes. The results of the study indicate that some athletes still make errors in their landing technique, characterized by insufficient knee flexibility, unstable body control, and suboptimal balance. These conditions indicate a potential risk of ankle injury. Athletes with better biomechanical landing techniques tend to have a lower risk of injury compared to those with poorer landing techniques. The conclusion of this study indicates that landing biomechanics plays a crucial role in minimizing the risk of sports injuries among female volleyball athletes. Therefore, training that emphasizes proper landing technique, improved balance, and strengthening of the lower extremity muscles is necessary to reduce the risk of injury among athletes.

Abstract

Abstract

The 24-Hour Movement Guidelines integrate physical activity, screen time, and sleep as interrelated behaviors that influence children’s health and academic outcomes. However, evidence from Indonesian primary school populations remains limited. This study aimed to examine adherence to the 24-Hour Movement Guidelines and to analyze its associations with body mass index (BMI) and academic performance among primary school children in Jambi City. A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 325 students (mean age 9.79 ± 0.90 years). Physical activity was assessed using the PAQ-C, screen time through a sedentary behavior questionnaire, and sleep quality using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). BMI was calculated from measured height and weight, and academic performance was obtained from school records. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression. Overall adherence to all guideline components was low. Regression analysis showed that physical activity was negatively associated with BMI (B = –0.027, p = 0.006), while screen time (B = 0.056, p = 0.016) and sleep quality score (B = 0.041, p < 0.001) were positively associated with BMI. In relation to academic performance, sleep quality showed a positive association (B = 0.079, p < 0.001), followed by screen time (B = 0.107, p = 0.039), whereas physical activity showed a negative association (B = –0.066, p = 0.002). The results demonstrate that each component of movement behavior exhibits distinct statistical associations with BMI and academic performance among primary school children, without implying causal relationships due to the cross-sectional design.

Abstract

Sedentary behavior changes during the pandemic caused a crucial reduction in the need for physical education and the time involved in physical activity so all parents and teachers at school experienced this challenge. The purpose of this study was to investigate the 24-hours movement guidelines, sleep quality, and screen time during and after the pandemic. This study used a cross-sectional method with an observational approach. The total subjects in this study were 1070 elementary school students with an average age of 10.69 ± 0.83 years, body weight 37.32 ± 10.57 kg, and height 139.66 ± 9.78 cm. The results showed that after the pandemic, children's playing habits outdoors and sleep duration increased sharply as the time in front of the screen decreased, although they tended to be the same as during the pandemic. Thus, it is hoped that these findings can serve as a reference for parents and teachers in schools to adopt a healthy lifestyle by prioritizing physical activity compared to using screens. so that habits during a pandemic can be overcome and students can improve their fitness levels. This investigation is limited to Jambi and its surrounding areas. Additional research can investigate the rise in the number of elementary school and respondents, as well as expand the scope to include the province, island, and country of Indonesia. This study findings may assist in restoring the physical activity behaviors of elementary school-aged children whose well-being is presently being compromised by excessive screen time, so that habits during a pandemic can be overcome and students can improve their fitness levels.

Abstract

Background Problems: Stress can cause a person to experience an accumulated risk of increased cholesterol and negatively impact performance in the field, as indicated by a decrease in blood glucose levels. Research Objectives: This research aims to identify the relationship between stress and blood glucose levels to find solutions for athletes to maintain glucose levels when competing. Methods: The research method was cross-sectional with an observational study approach. Glucose levels were assessed using an Accu-Chek device, while anxiety levels were assessed using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) questionnaire. The research subjects were 130 Provincial Training Camp (PELATPROV) athletes with an average age of 25.01 ± 5.15 years old, a weight of 64.15 ± 7.93 kg, a height of 171.21 ± 5.88 cm, and a BMI of 21.98 ± 3.71 kg/m2. Findings and Results: The results indicated significant differences in stress (0.001 < 0.05) and blood glucose levels (0.001 < 0.05) between the two groups. The pre-PON athlete group dominated the increase in stress and decrease in blood glucose levels compared to the non-Pre-PON group. Thus, this research has provided evidence of a correlation between stress levels and decreased blood glucose levels. Conclusion: Psychological and physiological aspects were proven to have an inevitable correlation. Athletes and coaches must communicate more deeply about the expected treatment during the preparation period, during and after the match, to understand each other’s needs to achieve performance. Therefore, athletes’ performance can be maintained well during competition and training.
