Abstract

The percentage of early marriages in South Kalimantan is the highest in Indonesia but the poverty rate in this province is the third lowest. This gives an early indication that early marriages in the province are not associated with poverty. Therefore, the case of early marriages in South Kalimantan is interesting to be observed. This study investigates what are the causes of early marriages in South Kalimantan and whether early marriages have a correlation with poverty and other indicators such as education and health levels. To answer that, data collection is done by documentation of interviews transcript and data report from the Central Statistics Agency of South Kalimantan. This study finds that the causes of early marriages in South Kalimantan relate to economic problems and as a way to protect families.  This study also finds that there is a significant negative correlation between early marriages and the level of education ( -0,005 < 0,05) and between early marriages and health (-0,001 < 0,05). Surprisingly, there is no significant correlation between early marriages and poverty (0,073 > 0,05).  This means that the higher the number of early marriages, the lower the level of education and health and vice versa.  This finding is important for policy makers, communities, and religious leaders to focus on supporting public education to prevent early marriages and break the cycle of problems associated with early marriages.

Abstract

This paper aims to assess alternative sources of education funding in madrasah through corporate social responsibility program (CSR). The approach used is descriptive analytic. The realization of CSR program is not perceived real yet by the madrasah. Previous research indicates that CSR tends to be more concerned with those who have power to influence the company (shareholders) and provides very little benefit to society and the environment. Madrasah, as one of the Islamic schools in Inodnesia, Has no strong bargaining power which results in receiving no fund allocation from CSR. Madrasah is potential to get this funding by considering the following aspects: 1) the location of madrasah gets direct impacts of the company, 2) the madrasah is participated in CSR program, 3) the madrasah has performed accountability/transparency security regarding financial management. In the company, CSR programs should ideally be used as a trade mark, as a form of corporate social responsibility to the public interest, particularly to the education in madrasah which commonly belongs to the public, but has minimum funding.

Abstract

Students are experiencing difficulty with online learning because it requires infrastructure, such as internet access that needs to be purchased. Data on education expenditures were collected by interviewing 736 students at State Islamic University (UIN) Antasari, Indonesia before the COVID-19 pandemic and 761 students during the occurrence. Also, interviews were used to collect data on opportunity costs during the pandemic. The results showed that the student/family average expenditure on education at State Islamic University in Indonesia (PTKIN) before the occurrence was IDR 20,420,708 per year. Abstract

Learning is influenced by resources, context, and student input. High-achieving students who come from underprivileged families have supportive social capital to make up for the low financial and human capital in their families. The question addressed in this article is how to increase social capital in low-income families. This is a qualitative study. Data was collected by interviewing 63 informants, consisting of 28 parents and 35 high-achieving Islamic primary school (madrasah ibtidaiyah and madrasah tsanawiyah) student from underprivileged families in South Kalimantan. The study's findings indicate that trust in the family is unable to emerge and grow as a result of various statements and treatments of parents and other family members toward children. These statements and actions are reflected in parental concern, feelings of security, honesty and integrity, openness, reliability, and competence in the family. Expectations in poor families are relatively unsupportive. The general trend among poor families is that they have low expectations for the future. But hope will grow if parents have broad insights and views. Relationships between generations are built through the togetherness of parents and children and the communication and joint activities that are often carried out between family members. Communication is the most basic thing in building social capital in the family.

Abstract

Abstract

Amid outbreaks, with limited preparation and infrastructure, learning is carried out by all of school in Indonesia. This research is aimed to investigate the satisfaction of Islamic high school (IHS) and high school (HS) students with online learning that they have participated in during the pandemic. This research is quantitative research. Data was collected by online questionnaire which was distributed to 520 HIS students and 796 HS students in South Kalimantan. Data were analyzed by t-test to determine the significance of differences in satisfaction levels. The results found that online learning during the pandemic was carried out with various platforms, and there were no changes in the learning system: curriculum and syllabus. Online learning in South Kalimantan at the IHS/HS level is faced with problems with an internet connection, internet quota, student independence, learning design, and technical ability. The satisfaction of IHS and HS students in South Kalimantan with regard to learning is in the quite satisfactory category (average score of 2.9). The difference between the two types of education is significant 0.009, with a significance level of <0.05. Thus, H0 is rejected, and Ha is accepted.
