Abstract

Madrasah and non-religious schools must compete for potential students. These two types of educational institutions compete to attract similar student markets. Therefore, this article aims to explore the strategies of madrasah aliyah (MA) and high school (SMA) in the school market in the local context. In addition, this article aims to explore the positioning, differentiation, and brand (PDB) strategies of MA and SMA in the local context. This research is qualitative. Data was collected using interviews with 16 participants: principals, vice principals, teachers, students, alums, parents, and villagers. The study found the number of MA students declined more than high school students in the past five years. Moreover, the findings of this study show that MA PDB focus on Islamic religious learning and skills is different from the market's expectations: students/parents. In contrast, the GDP chosen by SMA focuses more on academic achievement and further study by the expectations of students and parents. This research suggests that madrasahs and schools analyze market needs for sustainable education as a basis for marketing strategies. The study also suggests a study to verify the effect of PDB on enrolment intention

Abstract

This study investigates the difference between the utility of general higher education (GHE) and Islamic higher education (IHE), students' enrolment intention, and their correlation. Data were collected using questionnaires. The participants of this study were 753 students in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. Researchers used convenience and snowballing sampling techniques. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Spearman's correlation. This study proves that the level of utility and all its factors (economic and non-economic benefit, probability of success, and cost) differ significantly between GHE and IHE (Sig<0.05). Moreover, it was found that all factors correlate with enrolment intention (Sig<0.05). However, correlation coefficients indicate that the cost of GHE and IHE  is the factor with the weakest correlation (p=0,139 and p=0.084) with enrolment intention. The strongest correlation with enrolment intention is the utility of GHE and IHE (p=0,597 and p=0.579) and the possibility of success in GHE and IHE(p=0,614 and p=0.530). This study offers practical recommendations for higher education institutions and suggests future research.

Abstract

Pro-environmental behaviour is a critical global issue across all sectors, including education. This study examines how family socioeconomic background influences internet addiction and pro-environmental behaviour among elementary school students, investigates the effects of school type and grade level, and explores gender as a moderating variable in these relationships. Using a quantitative approach with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), data were collected from 210 parents (150 females, 60 males) through convenience sampling. The findings reveal that family economic status and family structure significantly and positively influence children's internet addiction, with students from affluent and two-parent families being more prone to smartphone or internet overuse. Internet addiction, in turn, has a significant negative impact on students’ pro-environmental behaviour. The effect of maternal education on pro-environmental behaviour is more pronounced among male students, whereas family economic status has a stronger influence on female students.. Islamic education was found to have no significant effect on either internet addiction or pro-environmental behaviour. This study contributes to the theoretical discourse in Islamic education and offers practical implications for curriculum and instructional development within Islamic educational settings.
