Abstract

Remaja termasuk kelompok usia yang rentan terhadap berbagai masalah kesehatan reproduksi akibat minimnya pengetahuan, pengaruh lingkungan, dan mudahnya akses informasi yang tidak sehat. Edukasi kesehatan reproduksi sejak dini sangat penting untuk mencegah perilaku berisiko seperti seks pranikah, pernikahan dini, serta infeksi menular seksual. Salah satu strategi yang efektif adalah pendekatan tutor sebaya yang menekankan pada peran siswa sebagai agen edukasi bagi teman sebayanya. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan siswa SMP Labschool Unesa mengenai kesehatan reproduksi melalui pelatihan tutor sebaya. Pelaksanaan kegiatan meliputi tahap pelatihan (pemberian materi dan pretest) serta tahap implementasi (praktik tutor sebaya melalui pembuatan poster dan posttest). Hasilnya menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman siswa sebesar 75% serta respon positif terhadap materi, metode, dan fasilitator. Kegiatan ini membuktikan bahwa pendekatan tutor sebaya efektif sebagai metode edukasi kesehatan reproduksi remaja, sekaligus dapat direplikasi pada sekolah lain.

Abstract

Tempeh and tofu are widely consumed by Indonesians and easily made using simple tools and method, thus numerous home industries producing are emerging. However, soybean processing in these industries produces high volume of wastewater. This study provides a simple wastewater treatment instrument design that could be used by soybean-based home industries by applying a series of physical, chemical, and biological treatment. Physical treatment was performed by filtration, chemical by addition of alum salts, while biological treatment was done by supplementing with lactic acid bacteria (LAB) from leftover container of fermented milk. Wastewater was recorded by its parameters (temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen/DO, biological oxygen demand/BOD, turbidity) at every phase of treatment after incubation for two various of periods; 1 hour and 5 days. Results showed that wastewater treated using instrument design had changes in all of its parameters observed during the course of treatment.  Wastewater treated in all phase of instrument incubated for 1 hour showed parameters approaching wastewater quality standards, thus it was safer to be disposed to environment compared to wastewater incubated for 5 days. Wastewater treatment as designed in the current study can be applied by soybean-based home industries with short incubation time to remediate wastewater produced during soybean processing before disposal.

Abstract

Pufferfish belong to the Tetraodontidae family, which consists of 28 genera and 184 species; however, there are limited studies on the species from East Java, especially Pasuruan. This indicates the need for the collection of more accurate morphological and genetic resources as an important step for its conservation. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify pufferfish species found in the Lekok Coastal Waters, Pasuruan District, through morphological characterization and molecular analysis using DNA barcoding of the COI gene. A total of 12 samples were collected from the Lekok Coastal Waters, Pasuruan Regency. Fin samples were stored in 96% absolute ethanol. DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and sequence analysis were performed using bioinformatics tools, the BOLD system, and the Automatic Barcode Gap Discovery (ABGD) web platform. Phenetic taxonomy was further applied using Ntysc to enhance the robustness of genetic analysis. The results showed that there were identified five pufferfish species were identified: Lagocephalus spadiceus, Chelonodontops patoca, Cyclichthys orbicularis, Arothron stellatus, and Arothron reticularis. High haplotype diversity (Hd) of 1 and nucleotide diversity (π) of 0.1 indicate significant genetic variation. The frequency of parsimonious informative sites was 22.6%, with 13 polymorphic sites and an overall ts/tv ratio of 2.2. The phylogenetic tree showed unambiguous branching patterns among species. These findings are supported by morphological and molecular identification results, which indicate the presence of five species of pufferfish along the Lekok Coast, Pasuruan Regency.

Abstract

Coffee is one of Indonesia's leading national commodities. However, coffee cultivation produces organic agricultural waste in the form of coffee husks. Based on its content, coffee husk waste still has the potential to be processed into other useful products, one of which is animal feed. The occupation of Ngembat village apart from cultivating coffee, are also raising ruminants, so the solution offered wasto carry out training on making animal feed with coffee husk waste. Community service activity was carried out on July 29, 2023 at the Ngembat Village Hall. The activity was attended by 17 residents of Ngembat village. The activity began with material regarding basic nutritional needs for ruminants and the content of coffee skins, then continued with participants practicing coffee husk fermentation. Coffee skin waste was fermented with Trichoderma sp. and the resulting product was evaluated after 5 days. The activity had received positive response from all participants and the product results of the participants had been as expected. With the implementation of training on making animal feed from coffee skin waste, it is hoped that it can reduce agricultural waste resulting from coffee cultivation carried out by the people of Ngembat village.

Abstract

Contextual teaching materials based on research findings can enhance students’ creative and innovative thinking skills, particularly in food biotechnology topics that also train students to analyze basic food quality and safety. However, the diversification of teaching materials remains limited. This study aims to develop a booklet on organoleptic and pH testing of nata from watermelon rind as a biotechnology teaching material for grade XII high school students, validated in terms of media, language, and content aspects. The development used the 4-D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), limited to the Develop stage (expert validation). Data were analyzed using a quantitative descriptive approach based on validations by expert lecturers and high school biology teachers. The results showed validity percentages of 98.61% for media, 94.10% for language, and 98.92% for content, with an overall average of 97.21% in the very valid category, indicating that the booklet is feasible for use as a teaching material. The primary content of the booklet supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 and 12 by employing watermelon rind waste and promoting responsible consumption and production practices.

Abstract

Pendidikan abad 21 meningkatkan perkembangan teknologi, penelitian dan ilmu pengetahuan di Indonesia. Sehingga peserta didik diharapkan memiliki keterampilan inovasi dalam pembelajaran, keterampilan berpikir kritis dalam memecahkan masalah, keterampilan penggunaan teknologi dan media informasi sehingga bermanfaat dalam life and career skills. Salah satu materi biologi yang cocok diterapkan dalam melatihkan keterampilan berpikir kritis adalah sistem pencernaan manusia. Penelitian memiliki tujuan guna menghasilkan e-book interaktif sistem pencernaan yang valid dan praktis untuk melatihkan keterampilan berpikir kritis. Pengembangan e-book menggunakan model 4D tanpa disseminate. Metode penelitian menggunakan lembar validasi dan respon. Validitas diukur bedasarkan validasi ahli materi, ahli pendidikan serta guru biologi SMA. Kepraktisan diukur berdasarkan lembar respon peserta didik terkait kemudahan penggunaan ­e-book. Uji coba terbatas dilakukan terhadap 20 peserta didik kelas XI IPA MA Unggulan Al-Falah Sidoarjo. Data dilakukan analisis secara deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh yaitu e-book interaktif tergolong dalam kategori sangat valid dengan skor mencapai 3,93. Kepraktisan mencapai 97,4% termasuk dalam kriteria sangat praktis. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa e-book interaktif sangat valid serta praktis untuk dapat diterapkan dalam pembelajaran sebagai media pada materi sistem pencernaan manusia secara mandiri maupun di dalam kelas.

Abstract

More than half of grade XI science students at SMAN 1 Jombang scored below the minimum mastery criterion on the skeletal-system topic, largely because instruction still relied on a single torso model and printed worksheets that did not accommodate students' varied learning styles. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of card-based learning media combined with the talking stick method in improving grade XI students' cognitive learning outcomes (C1-C3) on skeletal-system material. A one-group pretest-posttest design was applied to 35 grade XI science students at SMAN 1 Jombang, who studied the material using the card medium, the talking stick technique, and the school's existing torso model. Learning outcomes were measured with a ten-item multiple-choice test administered before and after the treatment. The pretest and posttest data were tested for normality using Shapiro-Wilk, then examined using a paired-sample t-test and the normalized gain (%N-gain) formula. The results showed that the average score rose from 67.4 in the pretest to 95.7 in the posttest, with a significant difference confirmed by the paired t-test (t = -16.186; df = 34; Sig. 0.000 < 0.05). The %N-gain reached 86.9 percent, which falls into the effective category.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the abilities emphasized in learning. However, critical thinking skills in biology learning at several schools in Indonesia hasn’t yet been optimal. One contributing factors is the lack of conceptual understanding as a foundation for developing critical thinking skills. This issue is particularly evident in the excretory system topic, which is considered difficult due to its numerous scientific terminologies and complex physiological processes. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Monopoly game as a learning medium in improving the conceptual understanding of 11th-grade high school students in excretory system material. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE development model. A limited trial was conducted on 14 11th-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Waru. The effectiveness test was determined by comparing students' pre-test and post-test scores using the N-gain analysis and calculation of conceptual understanding indicators achievement. The results showed that the effectiveness test yielded an average N-gain score of 0.49, which falls into the moderate category and the indicators achievement get percentage of 79% with the category achieved, indicating that the learning media was effective in improving students' conceptual understanding of the excretory system materials. The improvement was supported by the characteristics of the Monopoly game, which is played collaboratively in groups, encouraging students to actively participate in learning through interaction, information sharing, discussion, and connecting various biological concepts to solve problems. Therefore, the excretory system Monopoly game is considered feasible as an alternative learning medium for enhancing students' conceptual understanding.
