Abstract

After entering adulthood, the quality and quantity of bone decreases with age. Bone metabolism is influenced by many factors and signaling pathways. Sclerostin is an antagonist of the Wnt signaling pathway in osteoblast lineage cells, thus causing a decrease in bone formation. Recent studies have shown that mechanical loading of the bones, for example by doing physical activity, can affect the concentration of sclerostin in blood serum. However, research on this topic still has wide variations in terms of frequency, intensity, duration, and the type of exercise that can cause changes in serum sclerostin concentrations. This study was conducted using the literature review method, we reviewed and compared the latest journals that discussed the relationship between physical activity and sclerostin concentrations in blood serum. Physical activity that decreases sclerostin levels in blood serum is physical activity that has been done regularly and carried out over a long period of time. Physical activity that is only done occasionally will increase the level of sclerostin in the blood serum, which will then decrease again over time to the level as before physical activity was conducted. In conclusion, certain physical activity has a good impact on bone health that can be evaluated with the levels of sclerostin and may be a marker of physical activity towards aging of bones.

Abstract

The effect of yoga in the increase in beta-endorphins biomarkers is the purpose of this literature review in the aging process. The method uses a database from Google Scholar, Researchgate and Mendeley. Search articles using keywords: yoga, sport, exercise, endorphins, anti-aging. Journals in English and Indonesian in the last 10 years have become our literature review material. The effect of yoga exercise intervention on the aging process (increase in one of the biomarkers, namely beta-endorphins) is obtained from 4 articles. What happens in the aging process is a decrease in functional capacity both at the cellular level and the loss of the ability to maintain body homeostasis, organ systems become dysfunctional and changes occur in the body. Essence; The physiological process of aging can be slowed down by doing yoga (endocrine, also cognitive, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and immunological),changes in biomarkers, one of which is an increase in beta-endorphins,so that yoga will improve body functions including increasing heart rate, blood circulation, helping to provide oxygen, nutrients to the skin, increasing collagen production and keeping new cells glowing and for antiaging and a better quality of life. Limitations to the review are only research published in the last 10 years. The limitation of the method used is that there is no quality analysis and risk assessment of bias. Keywords: yoga; sport; exercise; endorphins; anti-aging

Abstract

Aging is a natural life process. Aging is associated with oxidative stress that results in decreased function and structural organs, including mitochondria. Nuclear Factor E-2 related factor 2 (NRF2) is the master regulator of antioxidants. NRF2 can suppress the damage caused by oxidative stress. Our purpose is to see the correlation between exercise in improving NRF2 and efficacy to prevent aging. This paper is a literature review journal. Sources of data obtained for this journal are through databases of scientific information sources such as Proquest, Pubmed, Mendeley, Elsevier, Department of Sports Medicine, Medical Faculty of Uludag University, Nature Publishing Group, American Physiological Society, and Frontiers Media S.A. We use a data collection strategy using keywords: NRF2, aging, exercise to find journals/articles to be reviewed, with a limit of 5 to 10 years of the latest articles. During exercise, high-intensity interval training aerobic, NRF-2 increases peripheral blood circulation. Exercise causes temporary oxidative stress that will cause an adaptive mitochondrial response (mitohormesis) which will improve function and be resistant to stress. With increased mitochondrial function, organ damage can be prevented, improve skeletal muscle performance, and extend lifespan. NRF2 deficiency is associated with an increase in free radicals that will affect organ health, as well as a decrease in skeletal muscle function and mass. This review summarized exercises to increase NRF2, NRF2 function, and correlation with aging. The Limitation of this review is we used only research published last 10 years. The method limitation is a risk of bias.

Abstract

One of the most essential lifestyle variables that might help you improve with age is physical activity. Physical activity can help you stay in shape and lower your risk of acquiring a range of lifestyle conditions. Muscle mass decreases as people get older. These have an impact on muscle strength, particularly skeletal muscle strength. Vit D is a vitamin that is necessary for muscle strength and contraction. Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to muscle effects such as fatigue and weakness, as well as hormonal and neurological impacts. According to recent research, persons who exercise more had higher vitamin D levels. The major goal of this narrative review was to illustrate the link between vitamin D levels and muscle aging.

Abstract

Introduction: Such tight competition is suspected to cause anxiety in prospective new students in facing the computer-based written examination of the joint selection to enter state universities (UTBK SBMPTN). Anxiety is a combination of various responses that include intense networking, feeling worried and disturbing. Preparation for exams can create a high level of anxiety. However, anxiety can also be a positive energy when it is still at a low level. So, it is important when knowing the level of anxiety in prospective students facing the UTBK SBMPTN Methods: This study is a descriptive study with a retrospective approach. Anxiety was measured using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) questionnaire which was distributed to prospective students graduating from SMAN 4 Denpasar and SMA PGRI 2 Denpasar in 2021 who registered for the UTBK SBMPTN with a sample of 88 people. Results: The level of anxiety of respondents in this study had a relatively mild level of anxiety, namely 35 people (28%), 25 people (28%) experienced moderate anxiety and only 2 people (2%) experienced severe anxiety. Symptoms experienced by many respondents were difficulty concentrating (55 people), easily distracted (72 people), lethargic (60 people), restless (65 people). Conclusion: The level of anxiety of most of the respondents in this study had a relatively mild level of anxiety, namely as many as 35 people (40%).

Abstract

Many studies have been conducted to establish the connection between exercise and telomere length, but still have varying results. Telomeres are reiterative DNA sequences (5'-TTAGGGn-3') which function to protect genomic DNA from enzymatic degradation. Telomere length can be used as a biomarker of aging because its repetitive structures are known to be highly relevant in the cellular aging process and the shortening of telomeres that occurs with increasing age is considered as an important contributor to aging in organisms. Several factors that affect telomere length are oxidative stress, chronic inflammation, BMI, lifestyle such as smoking, alcohol intake, stress, increased insulin resistance, and exercise. This study aims to determine the correlation of exercise at different intensities on telomere length. The method used in this study is internet search for journals and articles through several websites. The eligible criteria include studies in English language published between 2012 and 2022. The studies that report the correlation of different intensities exercise on telomere length were selected for the systematic literature review. As a result, the people who perform moderate to vigorous physical activity more in their leisure time, have longer leukocyte telomere length (LTL) and long-term resistance training may exert a protective effect on muscle telomere length in the elderly. Several studies have reported a correlation between prevention of leukocyte telomere length shortening and exercise at a certain intensity successfully.

Abstract

Introduction: Anaerobic threshold is a physiological point when lactate production begins to exceed the lactate spent via oxidation process resulting in increasing amount of lactate in the circulation. It is an important aspect of sports physiology and several methods have been developed to enhance it. However, little study had conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of high intensity interval training (HIIT) in enhancing the anaerobic threshold. Method: A quasi experimental study with pre test and post test group design was conducted at Ngurah Rai Sports Building Square from January to February 2017. The subjects were randomly divided into two groups in which the first group received HIIT and the second one was the Steady State Training group performed for 2 minutes of sprint and 2 minutes of jogging for 6 weeks. Results: 24 male students were enrolled in this study with mean age 13.92±1.165 years for the first group (HIIT) and 14±1.128 years old in the second one (SST). The anaerobic threshold was significantly after the intervention (HIIT [before vs after]: 178.17±2.368 vs 197.83±3.460; SST: 177.17±1.586 vs 185.25±1.288; p: <0.05). The value difference (after-before) comparison between both groups also proved to be significantly different (HIIT vs SST: 19.67± 2.309 vs 8.08 ± 1.311; p<0.05). Conclusion: Both HIIT and SST were proved to significantly enhance the anaerobic threshold in male highschool students. However, HIIT had significantly higher enhancement compared to SST.Keywords: Anaerobic threshold, Steady State Training, lactate, high intensity interval training.
