Abstract

This community service program aimed to develop environmentally friendly pottery technology through collaboration between Universitas Mataram, Indonesia, and Dong Thap Community College, Vietnam. The activities were conducted in Penujak and Banyumulek Villages, Lombok, focusing on the application of composite technology using combustion ash waste and the utilization of natural dyes. The methods included socialization, focus group discussions (FGDs), and hands-on practice with local artisans. The results indicated a significant increase in participants’ knowledge regarding composite technology concepts, alternative material utilization, and combustion ash processing techniques, with an average improvement ranging from 45% to 70%. Furthermore, the practical application of natural dyes, such as sappan wood, tegeran, jolawe, indigosfera, meranti wood, and areca nut, was successfully demonstrated in pottery products. A satisfaction survey revealed that most participants were satisfied to highly satisfied with the training and were motivated to continue developing composite pottery with eco-friendly dyes. Overall, the program effectively enhanced artisans’ knowledge, skills, and motivation, while supporting the diversification of pottery products toward more innovative and globally market-oriented outcomes.

Abstract

This community development program was motivated by the large amount of broken pottery waste generated during the firing process that remains unutilized in the traditional pottery industry of Banyumulek Village. The clay waste has significant potential as an innovative additive in the production of natural soap. The purpose of this activity was to enhance community awareness and skills, particularly among members of KSL Rinjani Lombok, in processing waste into environmentally friendly and economically valuable products. The implementation methods included socialization and training. The socialization stage provided understanding of the potential of clay waste and opportunities for developing natural soap products, while the training stage was conducted through hands-on practice covering material preparation, mixing with soap base ingredients, and soap molding techniques. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants’ knowledge and skills in utilizing clay waste, with the highest improvement reaching 85%. Community partners were able to produce natural soap with good quality and market potential. In addition, the program successfully achieved its objectives by empowering the community through innovative utilization of pottery waste, while fostering the creation of competitive and eco-friendly product.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the volume, weight, composition of organic waste, the characteristics of C/N, moisture content, and biodegradability fraction as a reference for biodegradability potential. Using the load count analysis method—based on modifications of SNI 19-3964-1994 and the UN-Habitat Wise Waste Cities Tools (2010)—researchers measured the daily waste generation, which amounted to approximately 11,967±2,528 liters in volume and 1.91±0.4 tons in weight. The organic waste primarily consisted of dry leaves (53%), household waste (25%), green manure and grass (17%), and vegetable waste (5%). Laboratory tests revealed the waste had a carbon-to-nitrogen (C/N) ratio of 62.07%, a moisture content of 66.76%, and a biodegradability fraction of 7.6%. These values do not align with raw material composting standards, indicating the need for waste treatment before composting. To enhance the composting process, the study recommends separating green (nitrogen-rich) and brown (carbon-rich) materials, prioritizing the green portion as the main composting input, and drying the material initially to reduce moisture to 40–45%. Composting is highlighted as a simple, eco-friendly solution for managing organic waste, contributing to soil fertility, structure improvement, and supporting sustainable agricultural practices.

Abstract

Media pembelajaran merupakan salah satu faktor yang mendukung proses belajar-mengajar kimia. Pemilihan media pembelajaran berdasarkan materi yang diajarkan pada materi kimia sangat berpengaruh terhadap hasil belajar siswa. Pada penelitian ini digunakan media pembelajaran bongkar pasang untuk mempermudah pemahaman konsep ikatan ion. Media bongkar pasang ikatan ion merupakan seperangkat alat yang terdiri dari dua jenis model yang menggambarkan ion positif dan ion negatif yang berfungsi untuk membantu penulisan rumus senyawa kimia yang terbentuk pada proses pembentukan ikatan ion. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan hasil belajar antara siswa yang diajar berbantuan media bongkar pasang ikatan ion dengan yang tidak berbantuan media pembelajaran. Pada penelitian diperoleh ada perbedaan perolehan hasil belajar antara siswa yang diajar dengan media pembelajaran bongkar pasang ikatan ion dengan siswa yang tidak menggunakan media bongkar pasang ikatan ion pada siswa SMU kelas X dan XI IPA.

Abstract

The problem of household organic waste remains a significant environmental issue in the Lembar region of West Lombok, particularly in Dasan Griya Village, West Lombok. This is characterized by low public awareness of waste management and minimal knowledge and skills in processing organic waste into products with higher economic value. This activity was carried out with the aim of increasing the motivation, knowledge and skills of the community in processing kitchen waste into ecoenzyme liquid soap. Socialization activities were carried out using lecture, discussion, demonstration and practice methods with housewives and teenagers as participants, facilitated by the local government. The results showed that the participants were very enthusiastic, and the knowledge and skills of most participants regarding processing kitchen waste into ecoenzyme liquid soap increased. The activity material absorbed by the participants includes a sustainable community-based waste management system and the fermentation-based kitchen waste processing into ecoenzyme products with high economic value.The participants expressed their readiness to further practice processing kitchen waste into ecoenzyme soap products at home.

Abstract

High levels of microplastics in the marine water potentially contaminate salt produced traditionally. National salt consumption is very high, reaching 4.5 million tons per year, therefore, research is needed to determine the level of microplastics contamination in traditional salt. This study aims to examine the abundance and characteristics of microplastics in tratidional salt products from Pijot Village, Keruak District, one of the major salt producing-areas on Lombok Island. The study also aimed to identify the potential sources and distribution patterns microplastic contamination throughout the traditional salt production process. Raman spectroscopy utilized for microplastic polymer analysis, while microplastic concentration and characteristics were identified using a trinocular microscope. The results showed that abundance of microplastic in seawater increased throughout processing, with the highest concentration found in the evaporation table sample (269 particles/L). Salt samples were contaminated with microplastics, with mature salt highly contaminated with microplastics (5.752 particles/kg) compared to raw salt (3.420 particles/kg). Generally, microplastics predominantly take the form of fragments (22-35%), films (29-44%), and pallets (25-40%), while fibers and foam are found in small numbers (1-11%). Black, white, and yellow colors dominate microplastics with distributions of 15-45%, 12-31%, and 18-39%, respectively. Polymer identification results showed that polypropylene microplastics were found in all samples. The main sources of microplastics in the salt ponds of Pijot Village were seawater, domestic wastewater, and the use of plastic-based operational supporting equipment.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan pengabdian masyarakat di Desa Banyumulek, Kecamatan Kediri Kabupaten Lombok Barat berkerjasama dengan KIAT Gerabah Lombok. Selama ini pengrajin KIAT menggunakan pewarna dari cat berbahan kimia. Penggunaan pewarna cat setelah pembakaran gerabah, menyebabkan warna mudah hilang, mudah tergores dan tidak tahan lama. Seiring trend eco-friendly technology, permintaan produk yang ramah lingkungan dengan kualitas pewarnaan yang baik, terus mengalami peningkatan khususnya pasar internasional. Oleh karena itu, perlu dilakukan pelatihan pewarnaan gerabah dengan tehnik slip clay coating menggunakan bahan dasar material hematite (Fe2O3) yang berasal dari batuan alami. Pengaplikasian hematite dilakukan sebelum proses pembakaran, sehingga akan menghasilkan gerabah dengan pewarnaan yang tahan lama, karena slip telah menyatu dengan tanah liat. Kegiatan pengabdian total diikuti oleh sebanyak 30 orang anggota KIAT Gerabah Lombok, tim pengabdian dan mahasiswa. Metode pengabdian yang diterapkan adalah ceramah, tanya jawab dan praktek dengan metode Participatory Action Research (PAR) dan Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Kedua metode ini diterapkan untuk menghasilkan kegiatan yang sesuai dengan permasalahan mitra dan meningkatkan persentase kelanjutan program. Kegiatan diawali pengenalan tentang pewarna hematite dari batuan, tehnik slip clay coating, dan pengaplikasian pada proses pewarnaan gerabah. Evaluasi kegiatan dilakukan melalui pre-test dan post-test untuk mengukur pemahaman dan peserta kegiatan. Data yang dikumpulkan berupa skor pemahaman sebelum dan sesudah, yang dianalisis secara deskriptif kuantitatif dengan menghitung persentase peningkatan pemahaman dan persentase kepuasan peserta. Kegiatan ini menghasilkan peningkatan pemahaman pengrajin sebanyak 92,86%. Persentase kepuasan peserta terhadap kegiatan pengabdian adalah 86,67%. Diharapkan teknologi ini menjadi salah satu tehnik ramah lingkungan khususnya untuk pengembangan Gerabah Banyumulek.
