Abstract

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems are one of three important ecosystems in the coastal areas that supports global warming mitigation efforts. The existence of mangrove forests is needed to reduce the increased CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere. However, the rise of the water temperatures and sea levels indirectly affects the presence and condition of mangrove forests in coastal areas. The purpose of this study is to determine the condition of the mangrove community on the East Coast of Jemaja, Anambas Archipelagoes Regency. The survey method  was used in this study and a series survey activities were conducted for a quadrant transect with a size of 10m by 10m in December 2019 - March 2020.The result shown that the five mangrove species were identified, such as Rhizophora apiculata, R. mucronata, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Ceriops tagal and Xylocarpus granatum. R. apiculata dominates with an important value index of 123.12%. While, the average density of mangroves and saplings in the study area was 3155 ± 785 individuals/ha and the average canopy cover was 84.03 ± 3.11%. With this finding, it can be concluded that the condition of mangroves in the East Coast of Jemaja is very dense and still in a good condition.

Abstract

Rupat Strait related to the Strait of Malacca is a national and international shipping lane and makes the region affected by anthropogenic activities that result in a decrease in the quality of the waters such as the increasing amount of heavy metal content. The most easily contaminated  organism of heavy metals is bivalves due to and its low mobility, bivalves being filter feeders, and the ability to accumulate contaminants,. The purpose of  this study was to look at genetic changes in bivalves  (P.acutidens) contaminated by heavy metals. The study was conducted from February to March 2021. Bivalve sample was collected from the waters of Rupat Strait and sample analysis was conducted in the Marine Biology Laboratory and Genetics Laboratory of Riau University. Bivalve DNA is isolated with Geneaid Tissue Genomic DNA Mini Kit. DNA isolation results were then carried out PCR process and sequencing process was carried out in PT. Genetika Science Indonesia. The results of study show that sequencing results obtained by samples derived from Selinsing have the most changes in the composition of nitrogen bases compared to samples from the other two stations.

Abstract

The communal domestic wastewater treatment plant functions to collect and treat domestic wastewater at the source location according to the communal scale treatment capacity. The communal Wastewater Treatment Plant (IPAL) in Suka Damai Hamlet, Siabu Village was built since 2017 using the Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR) system. This study aims to evaluate the Communal IPAL by analyzing the quality of wastewater compared to PerMenLH No. 68 of 2016, calculating the effectiveness of WWTP, and analyzing community participation in IPAL management. To compare thequality of wastewater before and after treatment using the Paired t-test method with a significance level of 0.05%, Direct sampling of wastewater on-site in the morning and evening, each with three replications and then analized at the Riau University Fisheries Laboratory. The results showed that the quality of wastewater exceeds the quality standard for the Total Coliform parameter, while the pH, BOD, COD and TSS parameters do not exceed the environmental quality standard. The Communal IPAL at RT 01 RW 02 Dusun Suka Damai, Siabu Village has not been efficient in treating domestic wastewater and the role of the community is still at the level of manipulation. Communal WWTP management needs to be improved so that the effluent quality and processing efficiency values meet the predetermined regulatory standards.
