Abstract

AbstractA study aimed to assess the aquatic carrying capacity in the Bandar Kayangan Lembah Sari Reservoir, Rumbai Pesisir District, Pekanbaru City, Riau Province. The carrying capacity was determined based on primary productivity using chlorophyll-a concentration, which is indicating the existence of phytoplankton in waters. This research was conducted April-May 2018. Samples were taken at 4 station, namely Station 1 (inlet from the Merbau River), Station 2 (inlet from Ambang River) Station 3 (transition zone) and Station 4 (around the dam or outlet). In each stations, a sampling point is determind, namely the surface and the water column. Sampling was done three times once/week. Water quality parameters measured were chlorophyll-a concentration, transparency, temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, free carbon dioxide, nitrate and phosphate. Results shown that chlorophyll-a concentration : 12.54-19.82 µg/L, transparency : 65.17-74.33 cm, temperature : 27.3-29.3 ºC, pH: 5, dissolved oxygen : 4.1-7.69 mg/L,  : 3.32-7.32 mg/L, nitrate : 0.01-0.03 mg/L, and phosphate : 0.01-0.03 mg/L. Based on chlorophyll-a concentration the carrying capacity of Bandar Kayangan Lembah Sari Reservoir was 4,53 tonnes of fish/year.Keywords: Carrying capacity, Bandar Kayangan Reservoir, Chlorophyll-a

Research aims to determine the type and abundance of periphyton on plastic substrate has been carried out in April-May 2018 in the Sail River. There were three sampling stations, namely S1 (in the upstream), S2 (in the middle) and S3 (in the downstream). Samplings were conducted once/week for a 3 weeks period. The periphyton samples are brushed from the plastic substrates (8x6) cm2. The number of substrates in S1, S2 and S3 were 5, 4, and 3 pieces respectively. Water quality parameter measured were water current, temperature, transparency, pH, dissolved oxygen, free carbon dioxide, nitrate, and phosphate. Results shown that there were 33 types of periphyton present and they were belonged 4 classes, namely Bacillariophyceae (13 species), Cyanophyceae (10species), Chlorophyceae (9 species) andEuglenaphyceae(1species). The abundance of periphyton in the plastic substrate in the S1 was 15,658 cells/cm2, in S2 was 22,095 cells/cm2and in S3 there was 30,799 cells/cm2.The water quality parameters were as follows: water current 0.07-0.69 m/s. transparency 6.03-7.67 cm, temperature 29-300C, dissolved oxygen 4.8-5.7 mg/L, free carbon dioxide13.6-14.6 mg/L, nitrate 0.29-0.38 mg/L, phosphate 0.34-0.54 mg/L. Abstract

ABSTRACT Trophic Status shows the level of water fertility that can be measured from nutrient, transparency and other biological activities that occur in a body of water. The study has been conducted December - January 2019.This study aims to determine the trophic status of the reservoir based on the type and phytoplankton abundance. There were 4 station, namely Station 1 in  Ambang river (station 1), and merbau river (station 2), station 3 in zone transition and station 4 in zone lacustrine. Samples were carried out 3 time with one weak interval. The quality of water parameters is temperature, transparency, depth, acidity (pH), dissolved oxygen, free of carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrate (NO3), fosfat (PO4). The type of phytoplankton found 4 classes namely  Bacillariophyceae (2 species), Chlorophyceae (9 species), Cyanophyceae (4 species) and Dynophyceae (1 species).   Phytoplankton abudance range 5147cells/ Liter – 6454 cells/Liter. Water quality parameters such as transparency range 57 – 60,2 cm, temperature range 31-32oC, pH 5, dissolved oxygen range 5,38 – 8,31 mg/L, free carbon dioxide range 0,208 -0,293 mg/L, nitrate range 0,075 – 0,096 mg/L. Based on  phytoplankton abundance , the waters of the Bandar Kayangan reservoir can be categorized oligotrophic. Keyword: Phytoplankton, Water Quality Parameters, Oligotrophic

Abstract

ABSTRACTNygaard Index can be used to determine the trophic state of waters. Calculation of this index is based on the number of phytoplankton species in these following groups, namely  Desmidiaceae, Myxophyceae, Chlorococcales, Centric diatom, Pennate diatom and Euglenophyceae. To understand the trophic state of the Lubuk Siam lake, a research has been conducted in February - March 2017. There were three sampling stations, namely station 1 (inlet area), station 2 (the middle of the lake) and station 3 (outlet area). In each station there were three sampling points, in the surface, 2 secchi depth, and 3 secchi depth. Sampling were conducted 3 times, once/week. Water quality parameters measured were phytoplankton (species and abundance), transparency, temperature, pH, nitrate, phosphate, Dissolved oxygen and free carbon dioxide. Results shown that there are 53 species of phytoplankton present, namely Desmidiaceae class (11 species), Myxophyceae class (6 species), Chlorococcales ordo (23 species), Centric   diatom ordo (6 species), Pennate diatom (5 species) and Euglenophyceae division (2 species). The water quality parameters were as follows: transparency 63-89 cm, temperature 28.5-30.53 0C, pH 6.83-7.27, nitrate 0.7-0.17 mg/L, phosphate 0.12-0.16 mg/L, Dissolve oxygen 4.10-7.84 mg/L, free carbon dioxide 5.29-15.98 mg/L. Nygaard Index value of the Lubuk Siam Lake was 2.1 – 2.83, and it can be  categorized as mesotrophic to eutrophic. Keywords: Lubuk Siam lake, Nygaard Index, phytoplankton, trophic state
