Abstract

Melon (Cucumis melo L.) is a fruit known for its sweet and refreshing taste. Traditionally, melon cultivation has relied on conventional farming methods. The use of biofertilizers offers an alternative to reduce dependency on synthetic fertilizers. This study aimed to enhance the production of healthy, high-yielding melon plants by substituting Mutiara NPK fertilizer with Bioto Grow Gold (BGG) biofertilizer. Conducted in Sukosongo Village, Kembangbau District, Lamongan Regency, East Java, the experiment employed a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD).Two factors were tested: BGG fertilizer at four concentrations (0 ml/L [P0], 1 ml/L [P1], 2 ml/L [P2], and 4 ml/L [P3]) and NPK fertilizer at four doses (0 g/plant [N0], 60 g/plant [N1], 70 g/plant [N2], and 80 g/plant [N3]). Results indicated that BGG fertilizer influenced both vegetative and generative growth variables, as did the Mutiara NPK fertilizer doses. The optimal combination was achieved with a BGG concentration of 3 ml/L and an NPK dose of 70 g/plant, which significantly increased the sucrose content in melons. Keywords: Bioto Grow Gold fertilizer, Biofertilizer, Melon, NPK Mutiara fertilizer.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the optimal harvest time and packaging type to preserve the quality of Inpari 32 rice seeds during storage. Conducted at the Food and Horticultural Plant Seed Supervision and Certification Unit in East Java from November 2023 to April 2024, the research used a factorial experiment in a completely randomized design (CRD) with three replications. Harvest age treatments were 110, 120, 130, and 140 days after seedling (DAS), while packaging types included plastic sacks, polyethylene (PE) sacks, polypropylene (PP) sacks, and aluminium foil. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 5% significance level. Results showed that harvesting at 120 DAS with PP sacks yielded the highest starch content, while 140 DAS with aluminium foil resulted in the lowest reducing sugar content. Optimal germination and growth speed were achieved at 130 DAS, which also minimized electrical conductivity. Harvesting at 140 DAS produced the highest 1000-grain weight. Aluminium foil packaging maintained the lowest moisture content and significantly improved germination and growth speed compared to other packaging types. These findings suggest that optimizing harvest age and packaging type can significantly improve seed viability and storage performance.

Abstract

This study aimedto evaluate the effects of combined NPK fertilizer and guano application on the growth and yield of Bambara groundnut (Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc.). The experiment employed a factorial randomized block design with two factors: NPK fertilizer dosage (25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of recommended rates) and guano dosage (5, 10, and 15 tons/ha). Observed parameters included plant height, leaf count, number of flowers, number of pegs, and fresh/dry pod weight per plant. Results demonstrated that the combination of 25% NPK and 15 tons/ha guano significantly improved plant height (43.29 cm), flower count (47.33), and fresh pod weight (81.73 g/plant). Guano alone also exhibited a substantial effect on both vegetative and generative growth, with the highest results observed at 15 tons/ha. The combination of low NPK and high guano dosages enhances Bambara groundnut productivity sustainably.

Abstract

Reduction of nitrogen in the soil is a problem in corn cultivation that can cause decrease production. The efforts to prevent this problem is to assemble superior maize that is low nitrogen resistance and high production by crossing different corn elders. This study was to analyse the combining ability of five lines (G1, G2, G3, G4 and G5) under normal and low nitrogen conditions used a half diallel cross design using the Griffing’s model I method formula to analyse 10 genotypes. The research design used a split plot design (SPD) with 3 replications, the research location was in the experimental garden of Center for Agricultural Research and Technology in Kebondalem, Mojosari, Mojokerto East Java. The value of the general combining ability (GCA) of the G3 elders significantly affected the weight parameters of the cobs under low nitrogen conditions. The results of the specific combining ability (DGK) on the G7 and G8 crosses had high SCA values on the yield character and weight of 100 seeds under normal conditions and nitrogen stress. Genotype G6 has a high SCA value for cob weight characters.

Abstract

Avocado is a fruit crop that is commercial and potential to be widely cultivated. Market demand for avocado was increased so production of avocado seed must increase too by grafting. The problem of grafting is often found in the connection between scion and rootstock that showed like elephant foot phenomenon, so it was necessary to study the linkage process between scion and rootstock. This research leads up to an increased percentage of finished graft seedlings that were ready for planting in the field. This method used a factorial experiment consisting of 2 factors. The first factor was the stages of entres (flushing, endodormancy, and ecodormancy), and the second factor was the grafting method (cleft graft, wedge graft, and splice graft). The research design used Complete Randomized Design with 4 replications and ANOVA with BNJ 5% test. The results showed all observations parameters interacted. Stage ecodormancy in splice graft resulted of vascular tissue (xylem and phloem) between scion and rootstock recovered better than other combination treatments by producing the best-grafted avocado seedlings growth with an increased percentage of grafted seedling by 42.50%, an interval of flushing by 4.91 days, and increased frequency of flushing by 1.83 times compared to stage flushing in cleft graft.

Abstract

Chili pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.) is an important horticultural crop that requires sufficient production to meet increasing market demand. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Biosaka elicitor composition and concentration on the growth and yield of chili pepper. The experiment was arranged in a two-factor factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The first factor was Biosaka composition (J), consisting of five formulations: J1 = babandotan, J2 = J1 + pukul empat, J3 = J2 + patikan kebo, J4 = J3 + meniran, and J5 = all biosaka materials. The second factor was Biosaka concentration (K), consisting of three concentration levels: K1 = 1.5 mL/L, K2 = 2.5 mL/L, and K3 = 3.5 mL/L. The results showed that Biosaka composition significantly affected plant height at 21–63 DAT, stem diameter at 28–63 DAT, leaf number at 21–63 DAT, fruit number per plant at the fifth harvest, and fruit weight per plant at the first and fifth harvests. Biosaka concentration significantly affected plant height at 21 DAT and 42–56 DAT, leaf number at 49 and 56 DAT, and fruit number (total fruit number and fruit number per plant) at the first, fourth, and fifth harvests. Overall, the J5 formulation and the concentration of 2.5 mL/L tended to produce the most favorable growth responses in chili pepper plants.

Abstract

Background: Pakcoy (Brassica rapa) production in Indonesia continues to rise, reaching 635,982 tons in 2018 and 652,723 tons in 2019. Improper irrigation often causes wilting and root rot. The wick hydroponic system offers a viable alternative but is suitable mainly for crops requiring limited water. Inorganic fertilizers enhance growth and yield, their long-term use poses environmental and human health risks. Organic fertilizers provide a sustainable solution without leaving harmful residues. Optimizing pakcoy cultivation in hydroponic systems requires selecting an appropriate wick material and the optimal concentration of organic fertilizer to achieve sustainable productivity. Methodology: This research was conducted with factorial experiment using a 2-factor completely randomized design, the first factor is the fertilizer concentration treatment consisting of 4 types (N0: AB Mix 3 ml/L-control, N1: LOF 6 ml/L, N2: LOF 9 ml/L, N3: LOF 12 ml/L) and the second factor is the type of wick treatment consisting of 4 types (S0: Flannel cloth wick-control, S1: Coconut fiber wick, S2: Bamboo fiber wick, S3: Banana stem wick). If the results obtained have significant, then continue the 5% DMRT test. Findings: The combined treatment of AB Mix at 3 ml/L and a coconut fiber wick exerted a significant influence on plant height between 15 and 25 DAP (13.37 cm), as well as on several yield parameters at 30 DAP, including crown fresh weight (17.97 g), root fresh weight (3.60 g), total fresh weight (21.57 g), and weight loss (0.24 g). The coconut fiber organic wick independently produced significant effects across all observed parameters, except for the number of leaves recorded at 5 DAP. Overall, the interaction between AB Mix at 3 ml/L and the coconut fiber wick demonstrated effective in enhancing the performance of pakcoy (B. rapa L.) compared with other treatment combinations. Contribution: This study provides valuable insights into optimizing the combination of fertilizer concentration and organic wick type in wick hydroponic systems to enhance the sustainable performance growth of pakcoy while promoting the utilization of environmentally friendly local materials
