Abstract

This research aims to develop and produce a case-based Human Anatomy and Physiology module that is suitable for use as a learning resource for students. This research is a research and development (R&D) study using the Five-Stage Level 1 model, with 84 Biology Education students, class of 2021, as the target subjects. Data collection techniques and instruments used were expert validation sheets and lecturer and student response questionnaires. The research data were analyzed using feasibility analysis techniques based on the feasibility of the material, design, language, and learning. The study concluded that the case-based Human Anatomy and Physiology module was deemed feasible based on assessments from material expert validators (4.35), design expert validators (4.00), and learning expert validators (4.29), and was deemed quite feasible based on assessments from language expert validators (3.78). The lecturers and students of the Biology Education Study Program generally gave good responses (4.36 and 4.14) to the case-based Human Anatomy and Physiology module. Keywords: Human Anatomy and Physiology, Case Method, Five-Stage Model, Module.

Abstract

Benzo(a)pyrene (B(a)P) is the major cause of hepato-renal carcinogenesis. Apigenin in Plectranthus amboinicus (EPA), has indicated some biological activities such as antioxidant and antimutagenic activity. The aim of this study is to investigate the potential of apigenin in EPA as anti-cancer against chronic hepatorenal damage exposed to B(a)P. The rats of 4 groups (n=6) were divided as follows: Group I (P0) was given food and water ad-libitum; Group II (PB) was administered orally B(a)P 2 mg/kg BW; Group III (PB+E) received orally B(a)P 2 mg/kg BW and EPA 500 mg/kg; Group IV (PE) was administered orally EPA 500 mg/kg BW. The therapeutic effect of EPA was explored using network pharmacology and molecular docking. The results showed that Group III could significantly improve (P < 0.05) the hepatorenal function parameter, including DNA concentration. SGPT, SGOT, blood urea nitrogen, and creatinine compared to those treated with B(a)P. The outcome data pharmacology revealed 6 targets could be the main core target. The good binding affinity indicated Apigenin docked to AKT1 protein with -10.00 kcal/mol relevant to Doxorubicin as control drug. Our results provide a new insight of apigenin in EPA potentially suppressing the regulation of chemical carcinogenesis by B(a)P.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of an environment-based Biodiversity Flipbook E-Module in improving tenth-grade students’ understanding of biology and their scientific process skills at SMA Negeri 21 Medan. The study employed a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 36 students. Research instruments included a validated biology comprehension test and an observation sheet used to assess students’ scientific process skills during three environment-based learning sessions. Data were analyzed using the N-gain score and descriptive statistics. The results showed that the mean pretest score of 33.81 increased to 83.88 in the posttest, resulting in an N-gain score of 0.76, which falls into the high category. Students’ scientific process skills were classified as very good across all learning sessions and demonstrated an increasing trend during the final meeting. These findings indicate that the environment-based Biodiversity Flipbook E-Module is effective in enhancing students’ understanding of biological concepts and their scientific process skills through contextual learning grounded in real environmental exploration.

Abstract

Reproductive health is a multidimensional state of physical, mental, and social well-being, covering all aspects of the reproductive system, functions, and processes. Cervical cancer is abnormal cell growth and development, which can lead to abnormal function of the reproductive organs and generally affects women of reproductive age, so the impact on the family is very significant. This study aims to determine the factors between the level of knowledge, access to information, and husband/family support with low Acetic Acid Visual Inspection (IVA) visits. This type of research is survey research with an analytical approach cross-sectional. The samples taken were 67 respondents obtained by the technique of purposive Sampling. The instrument used is a questionnaire. The data obtained is processed using a test Chi Square with a degree of significance (α) = 0.05. The results showed that there was a significant influence between the factors associated with the low number of IVA visits, namely the level of knowledge, access to information, and husband/family support. In the statistical test, the p-value is 0.000. The conclusions of WUS researchers who are married should always pay attention to their reproductive health, one of which is the IVA examination.
