Abstract

Basic teaching skills of Core Teaching Standards model for prospective Chemistry teachers are important in enhancing the competence as they deal with world of education. This study aimed at determining the process of teaching and learning activities as well as basic teaching skills using Core Teaching Standards among prospective chemistry in Microteaching Program 1 (PPL 1) class at Muhammadiyah University of Pontianak. Using descriptive design and quantitative approach, 16 students participated as the subjects. The techniques used in this research were direct observation and direct communication. The data collection technique included observation sheet and interview guide that covered 10 standards. They were student development, learning difference, learning environment, materials, application of materials, assessment, lesson plan, teaching strategy, professionalism in teaching, and leadership and collaboration. The study reveals that the students gained the highest score on standard 9 (professionalism in teaching) by 81,65% and was considered very good. Whereas, they hed the lowest score on standard 6 (assessment) by 58,21% and was considered fair by 58,21%.Keywords: Core Teaching Standards, basic teaching skills, Microteaching 1 (PPL 1)

Abstract

Acid-base is taught at SMA Negeri 1 Nanga Pinoh by using practical methods. Therefore, in order to deliver the material effectively and ideally, the proper guidebook is absolutely required. This study aimed to develop a valid, practical, and effective practical guide for acid-base material based on the local content of West Kalimantan. Using an R & D model of Borg and Gall, seven out of eleven stages of material design were employed. They were research and data collection, planning, draft development, initial product trial, initial product revision, main field trial, and revision of operational products.The data collection technique used were observation, questionnaire, and measurement. The instruments were observation and questionnaire sheet, and posttest questions. The study was obtained: (1) the coefficient of validity from the assessment of media, material and language experts were 1.00; (2) the response value on the initial field trial was 88.8%, and the response value on the main field trial was 89.16%; and (3)The student learning outcomes after taught using this practical guide were sharply improved by 97%. In conclusion, the practical guide for acid-base material based on the local content of West Kalimantan is effective to be used by the students of SMA Negeri I Nanga Pinoh.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the ability and influence of student multiple representation module before and after using the module about solubility and solubility results in class XI IPA Adisucipto Sungai Raya High School. The research method used in this study was the Pre-experimental design method and the research design used was one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample in this study was the students of class XI IPA of Adisucipto Sungai Raya High School. Data collection techniques used in this research were measurement, observation and interview techniques. Meanwhile, data collection tools used multiple choice test questions, observation sheets and interview guidelines. Based on the results of data analysis, differences in the ability of student multiple representation were obtained the results of calculations with an average value of the representation aspect of macroscopic 75.00, microscopic 73.33, and symbolic 74.44. The effect of learning with multiple representation module was analyzed using the N-Gain formula. The results in the macroscopic aspect of 0.54, microscopic aspect of 0.68 and the symbolic aspect of 0.38 belong to the medium category.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is motivated by the low student activity, which affects learning outcomes. The aims of this research were to describe and determine students activity on atomic structure lesson during chemistry teaching process. About 36 students of class X MIA 5 was choseen as samples in this research using purposive sampling method. The students activity data were collected through observations, questionnaires and interviews, using validated instruments. The results showed that the highest aspect of student activity was emotional activity (76,85%), and then declined gradually to listening activity(74,65%), visual activity (67,36%), writing activity (61,46%), and oral activity (38,42%). Emotional activity showed the highest score since students were eager to study chemistry subject, especially atomic structure lesson mean while oral activity was the lowest activity since the students were not confident to ask questions and express opinions.Keywords: Students’ learning activity, atomic structure

Abstract

The background of this research was the lack of students’ learning activities in the classroom and the low of student learning outcomes in the oxidation reduction material. This research aimed to determine whether there are any differences in the activities and learning outcomes of students who were taught using modification of reciprocal teaching approach and students who were taught using the expository approach and how much the influence of modification of reciprocal teaching approach to the activities and student learning outcomes. This research used experimental method with nonequivalent control group design. Samples were selected using saturation sampling technique. Data collection techniques used were measurement, observation and direct communication techniques. Data collection tools used were learning result test, observation sheet and interview guide. Based on the results of statistical analysis using SPSS 22.0, it can be concluded that there were differences in activity and student learning outcomes students who were taught using modification of reciprocal teaching approach and expository approach. The value of effect size showed that the effect of 92.07% approach to student learning activities and 99.20% of student learning outcomes. So it can be concluded that the modification of reciprocal teaching approach can be used to improve student activity and learning outcomes.Keywords: Learning activities, Learning outcomes, Modification of Reciprocal Teaching, Redox

Abstract

ABSTRACTOne of the ways to improve student’slearning activity and learning outcomes using studentcentered learning model. Therefore, this study applied cooperative learning model make amatchtype and analyzed its impact on student’s learning activity and learning outcome. This study was Quasi Experimental Research using Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The samples were selected by using purposive sampling technique, which are XD as the experiment class and XG as the control class. Data was collectedusing measurement, observation, and direct communication techniques. Learning outcome test, observation sheets and interview guidelines were used as data collection tools. Based on the data analysis which uses non-parametric U-Mann Whitney showed that there were differences in students learning activity and learning outcome between experiment class and control class. The Effect sizethat was obtained for student’s learning activities and learning outcomes were 1.17 and 0.86, respectively. Both are in high category of influence, which influenced amounted to 36.65% of the student’s learning activity and 30.52% of the student’slearning outcome. This study shows that cooperative learning model make a match has a major effect toward student’s learning activity and learning outcome.Keywords: Learning Activity, learning outcomes, make a match, reduction-oxidation

Abstract

This development research is motivated by the low learning outcomes of students and the lack of motivation students in learning chemistry, especially on solubility and solubility result at SMAN 1 Mandor. This study aims to produce worksheets based on chemo-edutainment student on solubility and solubility result. This type of research is the development of the ADDIE Research and Development (R&D) model. The instruments used were validation sheets, questionnaire sheet for teacher and student responses and test sheets for pretest and posttest questions. The analysis shows the validity criteria obtaine by the validator 1.0 value with a very valid category. The results of the questionaire respons of primary field trial students obtained an average percentage value of 88.57 %. The efective criteria for chemo-edutainment based worksheets were seen from the pretest and posttest results of students calculated using N-gain formula, the value obtained in the main field trial is 0.85 (very high). Based on these results, it can be conculuded that the development of chemo-edutainment based student worksheets is feasible to be used as teaching material on solubility material and solubility results in class XI IPA in SMAN 1 Mandor.

Abstract

ABSTRACTLearning assessment includes three aspects of learners abilities which are the cognitive ablilities (knowledge), affective abilities(attitude), and psychomotoric abilities(skills). Cognitive abilities tend to be highlighted than affective and psychomotoric abilities. The psychomotoric abilities of student chemistry education department in Muhammadiyah Pontianak University, should be evaluated since the beginning. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a research about of psychomotoric abilities of the third semester students of Chemistry Education Muhammadiyah Pontianak University. This study was conducted using descriptive qualitative approach on 16 students using validated observation shet and interview. The results showed that students average psychomotoric abilities was 73.24%. About 1 student has an excellent categories and 15 students with good categories. However, there some aspect of students psychomotoric abilities which were categorized as poor and very poor.Keywords: analysis, psychomotor ability, students of chemical education

Abstract

Colloid is chemistry material which can be teached by experiment method. However, teacher’s practical guide didn’t match with the students characteristics and laboratory equipment in SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Raya. Therefore, this research aimed to develope the colloid practical guide based on guide inquiry. This research method was used Borg and Gall’s development model. Sampling technique used in this research was purposive sampling technique. Samples are students at eleventh grade in IPA 1 and IPA 2 SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Raya. The data was collected by using questionnaires and posttest sheet. The results of the research showed that the colloid practical guide are valid, practice, and effective. Validity test consists of three aspects (content, media, and language) were obtained coefficient validity with the average 1.00 or can be categorized "very valid". The practicality test used questionnaires for teacher and students which obtained the average percentage is 91.6% or can be categorized "very practice". Meanwhile, the effectiveness test obtained the average of posttest is 94, with the completeness classical is 100% or can be categorized "very effective". Based on the results, the colloid practical guide based on guide inquiry can be used as learning materials for students at eleventh grade in the second semester of IPA SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Raya.Keywords: Based on Guide Inquiry, Colloid, Practical Guide, Research and Development

Abstract

ABSTRACT The process of learning chemistry which only focused on teacher as informant caused the students’ memory lower. This could make the students’ learning outcomes lower, thus, it was needed STAD type of Cooperative Learning Method which had the process of interaction between student and teacher, and could help the students comprehend the material. Therefore, it was necessary to make a research which had the purpose to know the difference between students’ learning outcomes and memory which used STAD type ofCooperative Learning Method and lectures teaching method as well as how large the effect of STAD type of Cooperative Learning Method on salt hydrolysis material was. This research was Quasi Experimental Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample of the research was choosen by using saturated sampling which XI IPA 1 as experimental class and XI IPA 2 as control class. The techniques of data collection used measurement technique, observation, and interview while the tools of data collection used tests such as essayquestion, observation sheet, and interview guide. The statistical analysis of posttest result using U-man whitney test obtained significant value 0.000. This value was smaller than α (0.005) which meant that there was difference in learning outcome between experimental and control class. The statistical analysis result of U-man whitney delayed test obtained significant value 0.006, this value was smaller than α (0.005) which meant that there was difference between students’ memory in experimental and control class. The calculation of effect size showed value 1.64 with high criteria which gave high effect on students’ learning outcomes which was 44.95%, while the calculation of students’ memory effect size showed value 0.69 with moderate criteria which gave effect on students’ memory which was 26,42%.
