Abstract

The rapid development of urban areas characterized by urbanization has caused various impacts, such as LST. The Peri-Urban area of Surakarta City is one of the areas that experiences similar conditions. This study aims to measure urbanization through the urban form, population, and land urbanization and modeling urbanization of Land Surface Temperature. The method used in this study is modeling using Ordinary least squares (OLS) and Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR). Data processing tools to support this research are ArcGIS and Google Earth Engine. The combination of ArcGIS and Google Earth Engine makes LST modeling more accurate. The measurement results show that the urbanization rate in the peri-urban area of Surakarta City, based on the parameters of land urbanization and urban form, tends to move to the South and West sides with a higher population in areas close to Surakarta City. The results of this study show that GWR modeling is better at explaining the relationship of urbanization with LST than OLS models based on AICc numbers. The relationship of urbanization with population parameters, population density, percentage of built-up land, and urban form with LST using the GWR model of 66.17% and the OLS model reveals that urbanization. Keywords: GWR; LST; OLS; Urbanization; Urban form

Abstract

Differentiated instruction is a key component of the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum (Freedom to Learn), aiming to meet diverse student needs in the classroom. However, the extent to which geography teachers understand and implement this approach remains underexplored in the Indonesian context. This quantitative descriptive study used a structured online questionnaire based on Tomlinson Imbeau’s four differentiation dimensions: content, process, product, and learning environment. A total of 59 geography teachers from senior high schools across Indonesia participated, all of whom met eligibility criteria including prior curriculum training. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and hierarchical regression via SPSS. Findings show that 66.1% of teachers demonstrated a high level of understanding, and 33.9% a moderate level; none were in the low category. Regression analysis revealed that participation in Merdeka Curriculum training significantly predicted understanding of differentiated learning (p 0.01), while being a geography teacher alone had no significant effect. Although conceptual understanding is high, implementation remains limited due to a lack of practical training and systemic support. The findings highlight the critical role of subject-specific, practice-based professional development. Geography, as a context-rich subject, offers strong potential for differentiation, yet requires targeted strategies and ongoing support to bridge the gap between theory and classroom practice.

Abstract

The rapid growth of urbanisation in the city of Surakarta has led to the conversion of agricultural land into residential and industrial areas, significantly impacting the food security of peri-urban areas. This study aims to analyse the land carrying capacity (σ), optimal population, and agricultural land needs for the viability of residents in the peri-urban area of Surakarta City. Data were obtained through the analysis of Sentinel-2A imagery and population statistics, utilising a guided classification approach with the CART algorithm. The results showed that most villages in eight peri-urban sub-districts were in a state of food deficit, with a σ value of < 1, indicating a high dependence on external food supply. Only a few villages in the northern part of Gondangrejo show surplus status. This condition highlights the urgency of implementing a strategy to protect agricultural land and control population growth rates to achieve sustainable food security in suburban areas. These findings make an important contribution to spatial planning and food policy in metropolitan areas.

Abstract

The Sengkarang Watershed in Pekalongan Regency is a multihazard area facing landslide threats in the upstream zone, flooding in the midstream zone, and tidal flooding (rob) in the downstream zone, directly affecting the livelihoods of local communities. This study aims to identify the condition of Livelihood assets, analyze Livelihood strategies, and describe strategy differences across zones using the DFID Sustainable Livelihood Approach (SLA) framework. The research was conducted in six villages within Tirto and Petungkriyono Districts, involving 97 respondents distributed across the flood zone (n=45), tidal-flood zone (n=40), and landslide zone (n=12). A mixed-method approach was applied, combining quantitative scoring and asset-pentagon indices, qualitative in-depth interviews, and simple spatial analysis using ArcGIS. The results show an overall mean Livelihood index of 0.3476 (Medium category), with physical capital as the strongest asset (0.5021) and financial capital as the weakest (0.2541). The landslide zone recorded the highest index (0.4817), driven by a very high natural capital value (0.7917), while the tidal-flood zone recorded the lowest index (0.3143) due to extremely low natural capital (0.1396). Community Livelihood strategies include job diversification, Livelihood adaptation, coping mechanisms, and informal social network mobilization, each varying in intensity across hazard zones. This study recommends zone-specific, cross-sectoral interventions to strengthen financial and social capital across all zones, natural capital in flood and tidal-flood zones, and accessibility in the landslide zone.

Abstract

Abstract

Surakarta is a cultural city facing challenges in its preservation efforts: buildings damaged due to neglect, high urbanization, deterioration of material quality, and a lack of stakeholder involvement. Consequently, research is necessary due to the urgent risk of heritage loss and the need for scientific contributions and innovation. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the Slamet Riyadi Corridor as an urban heritage landscape in the city of Surakarta. This study will examine the corridor as an urban heritage landscape comprising history, tangible heritage, and the relationships among landscape elements. The research employs a qualitative method with data analysis stages including data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The findings reveal that many of the heritage sites feature Indische architectural styles that blend Javanese and European elements. The cultural heritage statues were erected after Indonesia’s independence to honor the contributions of prominent figures, with the locations chosen to reflect aspects of their lives. The cultural heritage related to transportation was created by Europeans. The objects described represent three of UNESCO’s categories: historic buildings, urban open spaces, and transportation.

Abstract

Urban development and global climate change drive increased Land Surface Temperature (LST). Wonogiri Regency is an area that is within the development range of Surakarta City. Analysis of land surface temperature has become Important in Wonogiri Regency as a mitigation measure for urban heat islands. This study aims to measure Land Surface Temperature (LST) in Wonogiri Regency and determine the controlling factor in the form of Land Use Land Cover (LULC), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), seasons, and zones by landform. Using the Google Earth Engine platform, LST calculations, LULC classifications, and NDVI calculations can compute imagery. The dataset used is USGS Landsat 8. The analytical technique used in this study is comparative descriptive, which compares other controlling factors. The analysis results show the vital role of LULC, NDVI, seasonality, and landform on LST. LULC types of built-up land, low NDVI values, dry season, and southern zone (karst) tend to have higher LST than other factors.
