Abstract

The main objective of this study is to present a conceptual study on the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model as an innovative strategy to improve student learning outcomes in Social Studies (IPS). The Problem Based Learning (PBL) model is designed to hone students' critical thinking, analytical, creative, and collaborative skills in the process of solving problems oriented towards real-life situations, which in turn can encourage an increase in students' academic achievement. This study uses a library research approach by referring to various literature sources, scientific journals, and previous research results relevant to the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The results of the research findings show that the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model is effective in improving student learning outcomes in social studies. This model is implemented through group discussions and problem solving activities that are relevant to the daily lives of students, thereby stimulating active thinking and problem-solving skills. The findings in this study are expected to make a significant contribution, both theoretically and practically, to educators, researchers, and policymakers in developing more creative, participatory, and relevant learning strategies, as well as serving as a reference for other researchers who wish to develop similar research in the context of education. Abstract

This classroom action research aimed to reduce excessive gadget use that disrupts concentration and learning outcomes among 11th-grade students at SMA Negeri 13 Gowa through the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL). Conducted from February 4 to April 30, 2025, the study employed a classroom action research method, encompassing planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were 30 11th-grade students, with data collected via observation, interviews, and quantitative analysis. Results showed a reduction in irrelevant gadget use by 60% in cycle I and 80% in cycle II, alongside an increase in student engagement from 40% to 60%. PjBL effectively enhanced social interaction and learning motivation. This study demonstrates that active learning strategies can shift students’ focus from gadgets to meaningful learning activities.

Abstract

Since Sir Isaac Newton, positivist ways of knowing have dominated Society with the logic of modernity that makes people assume that science and technology (scientific knowledge) and local knowledge are an antinomy, where one negates the other. This study utilizes Pierre Bourdieu's conceptual-theoretical framework of Habitus, Capital, and Arena to define and analyze, and explain the attitudes of the Kajang Indigenous Community in Tana Toa towards cultural capital and educational institutions and further, how they interpret and view Education as an alternative to maintaining and preserving culture. 14 respondents who are Customary, Religious and Educational figures representing gender subjects determined by Purposive sampling techniques, were included as informants in the study. Our field findings provide strong evidence that the Kajang Community has adequate strategies and adaptation capabilities in maintaining and preserving the existence of their culture, creating a harmonious blend of local and formal knowledge.
