Abstract

The use of WhatsApp group feature is used by hydroponic farmers as a medium of information and discussion and encourages farmers to follow the development of agricultural information actively. The existence of WhatsApp groups has an impact on farmers in the form of behavior changes that are reviewed by cognitive, affective, and psychomotor components. This study aims to determine the behavior of hydroponic farmers in using WhatsApp groups, analyze supporting factors for changes in hydroponic farmer behavior consisting of digital literacy and intensity of media use and analyze the influence of digital literacy and intensity of media use on hydroponic farmer behavior. This study used a descriptive quantitative approach and sampling techniques using simple random sampling. The sample used was 67 members of the Soloraya Hydroponic Community WhatsApp group, and the analysis method used multiple linear regression. The results showed that the behavior of hydroponic community members which includes cognitive, affective, and psychomotor components was in the high category of 55%. Supporting factors in the form of digital literacy are in the high category, while the intensity of social media use is in the low category. Digital literacy and the intensity of social media use together have a positive and significant influence on the behavior of members of the Hydroponics Community. Partially, digital literacy has an effect on the behavior of community members, while the intensity of social media use does not have a significant effect on the behavior of community members.

Abstract

Stunting prevalence in Indonesia is still high and far from the National medium term development plan 2020-2024 target. As many as 41% of stunted under-fives come from poor households in the stunting focus area of the Bantul Regency. This study assessed the risk factors for stunting in low-income households. This study was conducted in July 2023 in Bantul Regency using an unmatched case-control approach. Using a purposive sampling technique, 156 children under five (78 cases and 78 controls), aged 6-59 months, from low-income families registered in the village and receiving social assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs, were chosen. Interviews were conducted to gather research data, and a validity- and reliability-tested questionnaire was used. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-squared tests, and binary logistic regression. The findings demonstrated a substantial correlation (p<0,05) between low birth weight and antenatal care (ANC) visits and stunting; however, there was no correlation (p>0,05) between mothers’ education level, mother’s age, and children’s breastfeeding status. In conclusion, low birth weight and ANC visits are risk factors for stunting among underfives. Low birth weight is the primary cause of stunting in children under five in low-income families.

Abstract

Sukoharjo Regency, in 2022, managed to receive the Muri Record Award for the most extensive IP400 land holding in Indonesia. The continued adoption of this rice cultivation type did not follow the program ending in the same year. This research is then being conducted to determine the factors affecting the sustainability of IP400 rice cultivation adoption, especially in Bendosari District, Sukoharjo Regency. This research has three objectives, and there are: 1) to analyze IP400 rice cultivation sustainability in Sukoharjo, 2) to analyze the distribution of respondents toward factors affecting IP400 rice cultivation sustainability in Sukoharjo, and 3) to analyze the factors affecting IP400 rice cultivation sustainability in Sukoharjo. This research used four variables and there is farmers' perception of the IP400 program (X1), extension assistance in the IP400 program (X2), the availability of production input in the IP400 program (X3), and innovation characteristic of the IP400 rice cultivation (X4). This research used exploratory quantitative methods and was conducted in Bendosari District, Sukoharjo Regency, from April 2024 until May 2024, with 85 respondents. Data analysis used logistic regression techniques with SPSS 25 analysis tool. The result of this research was two variables that significantly affect the likelihood of sustainable adoption of IP400 rice cultivation, and there is farmers' perception of the IP400 program (X1) and innovation characteristic of the IP400 rice cultivation (X4). This research suggests: 1) evaluating policy recommendations for IP400 cultivation, especially in terms of technical aspects in increasing rice productivity related to relative advantage obtained by farmers and compatibility to the land itself, and 2) procurement of wetlands selection with high compatibility for IP400 cultivation to ensure optimal results and ensure more profits for farmers, both in economic and technical terms of rice cultivation.

Abstract

Farming Motivation of Millennial Farmers in Tulung Sub-District, Klaten Regency. Indonesia’s agricultural sector has faced a crisis in the regeneration of millennial farmers. Based on data from the Agricultural Extension Center (BPP) of Tulung Sub-district in 2022, there are only 323 farmers from the age range of 22 to 37 years, which accounts for only 2% of the total millennial generation involved in agriculture. The farming motivation of millennial farmers plays a crucial role in the regeneration process of farmers in Indonesia. With high motivation, the regeneration of farmers can be achieved more effectively. This study aims to describe and analyze the factors that influence the farming motivation of millennial farmers. The unit of analysis in this study is millennial farmers with specific criteria in six villages in Tulung Sub-district, Klaten Regency. The sample consists of 53 respondents selected using the proportional random sampling method, determined through the Slovin formula. The data were analyzed using Multiple Linear Regression with the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method, facilitated by the IBM SPSS Statistics 27 application and Shazam version 9.0. The results showed that the role of agricultural extension agents, non-formal education, land tenure area, farming experience, and government program support collectively explained 70.42% of the variance in farming motivation among millennial farmers in Tulung Sub-district. Variables that positively and significantly influence the farming motivation of millennial farmers include the role of agricultural extension agents, non-formal education, land tenure area, and farming experience. Conversely, government program support has a negative and significant effect, likely due to the perceived abundance of programs that are not effectively implemented or aligned with the needs of millennial farmers. Therefore, it is imperative to design more tailored and equitable government programs, accompanied by regular evaluations, to encourage and support millennial farmers effectively.

Abstract

Increasing the Interest of the Gentungan Village Millennial Generation in the Agricultural Sector through Smart Farming Socialization and Training. Gentungan Village, as a pioneer village for organic rice, is currently facing problems in the availability of human resources in the future. The purpose of this community service is to increase the interest of the millennial generation in Gentungan Village to engage in the agricultural sector through socialization activities and smart farming training. This service activity was carried out in July - September 2022 involving the active participation of 20 millennial generations in Gentungan Village. This community service activity consists of several activities, namely 1) counseling on the role of youth in agriculture, 2) socialization on smart farming and success stories, 3) training on smart farming and 4) evaluation of the results of socialization and training on smart farming. This community service activity had a positive impact as shown by 90% of participants increasing their knowledge of agriculture 4.0, 60% of participants increasing their knowledge of business opportunities in agriculture 4.0, 15% of participants increasing their positive views of the agricultural sector and increasing participant skills in operating fertilizer drones. This activity also initiated the formation of a group of young farmers Taruna Tani Gentungan Village which in the future is expected to continue agricultural development in Gentungan Village.
