Abstract

The use of WhatsApp group feature is used by hydroponic farmers as a medium of information and discussion and encourages farmers to follow the development of agricultural information actively. The existence of WhatsApp groups has an impact on farmers in the form of behavior changes that are reviewed by cognitive, affective, and psychomotor components. This study aims to determine the behavior of hydroponic farmers in using WhatsApp groups, analyze supporting factors for changes in hydroponic farmer behavior consisting of digital literacy and intensity of media use and analyze the influence of digital literacy and intensity of media use on hydroponic farmer behavior. This study used a descriptive quantitative approach and sampling techniques using simple random sampling. The sample used was 67 members of the Soloraya Hydroponic Community WhatsApp group, and the analysis method used multiple linear regression. The results showed that the behavior of hydroponic community members which includes cognitive, affective, and psychomotor components was in the high category of 55%. Supporting factors in the form of digital literacy are in the high category, while the intensity of social media use is in the low category. Digital literacy and the intensity of social media use together have a positive and significant influence on the behavior of members of the Hydroponics Community. Partially, digital literacy has an effect on the behavior of community members, while the intensity of social media use does not have a significant effect on the behavior of community members.

Abstract

Papaya is one of the horticultural crops that can be developed in current cultivation because it takes advantage of Indonesia’s tropical climate and is traditionally easily cultivated by farmers. Improper post-harvest handling resulted in a low selling price of papaya in the market. This condition caused farmers to experience losses and their numbers continue to decline because they chose to stop cultivating papaya. Even though the condition of papaya farmers continues to decline, some still persist in cultivating papaya. This is closely related to the motivation of farmers. This study aims to (1) examine the motivation level of farmers in cultivating papaya, (2) examine the factors that influence farmers’ motivation in cultivating papaya, (3) examine the influence between the factors that influence the motivation of farmers in cultivating papaya plants in Mojosongo Sub-district, Boyolali Regency. The research method used is a quantitative method. The research location was chosen purposively (intentionally) to be in Mojosongo Sub-district, Boyolali Regency. The sampling method used proportional random sampling and obtained 70 respondents. Data analysis applies multiple linear regression analysis. The results of the study prove that: (1) the motivation of farmers in cultivating papaya belongs to the high category; (2) the income variable is in the very high category, land area is in the medium category, the number of family is in the medium category; (3) the variables of land area and number of family have a significant effect on farmer motivation while income has no effect.

Abstract

The Rice Cropping Index 400 (IP Padi 400) is one of the government’s initiatives to boost the production of rice commodities. The goal of the IP Padi 400 is to maximize the cropping index while optimizing the spatial and temporal patterns of rice cultivation. The aims of this study are to (1) know the variables influencing farmers’ affective attitudes toward the IP Padi 400 and (2) determine the effect of factors that influence affective attitudes on the farmers’ affective attitudes toward the IP Padi 400 in Ngemplak Sub-district, Boyolali Regency. This study used quantitative methods. A sample consisting of 47 participants was gathered by the census method. The analysis used multiple linear regression. The results of this study are: (1) non-formal education variables have a low influence; however, government support from the Ministry of Agriculture of Indonesia and agricultural extensions have a very significant influence and (2) non-formal education variables, government support, and agricultural extensions have significant influence on the formation of farmers’ attitudes toward the IP Padi 400.

Abstract

Population growth triggers the need for national food to increase, including the need for vegetable crops as a complement to human nutrition. Efforts made by farmers to meet the population’s needs for vegetable crops and a source of income, often have not paid attention to environmental conditions. Beruk Village is one of the villages where the people cultivate vegetables crops on the slopes of the mountains which should be used as a conservation area. This condition certainly requires farmers to always learn and apply appropriate local techniques so as not to harm the surrounding environment. This research aimed to explore the learning process of farmers in obtaining and examining local knowledge in vegetable cultivation. This study used a qualitative approach method with the interactive model analysis techniques of Miles and Huberman. The results showed that local knowledge of local farmers comes from parents/hereditary, local village farmers, and farmers outside the village through oral, experience, trial and error, and observation. The local knowledge includes seeding (garlic, onion, carrot), land processing stages and its frequency, ‘kalenan’ (horizontal drains), ‘kali gondhang’ (vertical drains), ‘plipit’ (the arrangement stones on the edge of ‘larikan’), benefits of spacing, planting time and season, intercropping, benefits of grass in agricultural land, fertilization methods, weeding, thinning, manual irrigation, utilization of agricultural and livestock waste, as well as method, age, and yield of harvest. The local agricultural tools used are hoe, crowbar, ‘ganco’, garden fork, trowel, sickle, bucket, sack, ‘lanjaran’, and its binder from natural material.

Abstract

Increasing the Interest of the Gentungan Village Millennial Generation in the Agricultural Sector through Smart Farming Socialization and Training. Gentungan Village, as a pioneer village for organic rice, is currently facing problems in the availability of human resources in the future. This can be seen from the low interest and involvement of young people, especially the millennial generation in Gentungan Village, in the agricultural sector. The purpose of this community service is to increase the interest of the millennial generation in Gentungan Village to engage in the agricultural sector through socialization activities and smart farming training. This service activity was carried out in July - September 2022 involving the active participation of 20 millennial generations in Gentungan Village. This community service activity consists of several activities, namely 1) counseling on the role of youth in agriculture, 2) socialization on smart farming and success stories, 3) training on smart farming and 4) evaluation of the results of socialization and training on smart farming. This community service activity had a positive impact as shown by 90% of participants increasing their knowledge of agriculture 4.0, 60% of participants increasing their knowledge of business opportunities in agriculture 4.0, 15% of participants increasing their positive views of the agricultural sector and increasing participant skills in operating fertilizer drones. This activity also initiated the formation of a group of young farmers Taruna Tani Gentungan Village which in the future is expected to continue agricultural development in Gentungan Village.

Abstract

Stunting prevalence in Indonesia is still high and far from the National medium term development plan 2020-2024 target. As many as 41% of stunted under-fives come from poor households in the stunting focus area of the Bantul Regency. This study assessed the risk factors for stunting in low-income households. This study was conducted in July 2023 in Bantul Regency using an unmatched case-control approach. Using a purposive sampling technique, 156 children under five (78 cases and 78 controls), aged 6-59 months, from low-income families registered in the village and receiving social assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs, were chosen. Interviews were conducted to gather research data, and a validity- and reliability-tested questionnaire was used. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-squared tests, and binary logistic regression. The findings demonstrated a substantial correlation (p<0,05) between low birth weight and antenatal care (ANC) visits and stunting; however, there was no correlation (p>0,05) between mothers’ education level, mother’s age, and children’s breastfeeding status. In conclusion, low birth weight and ANC visits are risk factors for stunting among underfives. Low birth weight is the primary cause of stunting in children under five in low-income families.
