Abstract

The high prevalence of physical disabilities in Indonesia, particularly among the productive-age population, highlights the urgent need for advancements in prosthetic technology. While local fabricators have begun producing prosthetic feet, the lack of standardized testing procedures compromises safety and performance. This study addresses that gap by developing an adjustable static testing device tailored for below-knee prosthetic feet, focusing on keel and heel tests to evaluate mechanical performance. The device includes a jig-fixture platform adjustable to 8° and 15° for heel and keel tests, respectively. It applies a 1230 N load based on AOPA standards and integrates load and displacement sensors for accurate data acquisition. Structural components are constructed from AISI 1020 steel, with fabrication involving welding, assembly, and system calibration. The testing procedure adheres to ISO 10328 to ensure reliability under realistic loading conditions. An Ottobock SACH prosthetic foot was used in trials, demonstrating the device’s ability to classify prosthetic feet into dynamic and cushioned types, based on load-bearing and energy-return characteristics. Polynomial regression analysis showed high accuracy in capturing load-displacement behavior, with R² values above 0.85 for both tests. The results offer valuable guidance for local prosthetic fabricators aiming to design testing equipment or apply AOPA and ISO standards for quality assurance. This research supports the development of a standardized testing framework for prosthetic feet in Indonesia, enhancing product safety and quality while promoting alignment with international benchmarks. The outcomes also suggest potential for broader applications in advancing prosthetic technologies and establishing national standards.

Abstract

Breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent cancers in Indonesia, and early detection plays a vital role in improving patient outcomes. Ultrasound imaging is a non-invasive and accessible technique used to classify breast conditions into normal, benign, or malignant categories. The advancement of deep learning, particularly Transfer Learning with Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), has significantly enhanced the performance of automated image classification. However, the effectiveness of CNNs heavily relies on large, balanced datasets—resources that are often limited and imbalanced in medical domains. To address this issue, this study explores the use of Wasserstein Generative Adversarial Networks (WGAN) for synthetic data augmentation. WGAN is capable of learning the underlying distribution of real ultrasound images and generating high-quality synthetic samples. The inclusion of the Wasserstein distance stabilizes training, with convergence observed around 2500–3000 epochs out of 5000. While synthetic data improves classifier performance, there remains a potential risk of overfitting, particularly when the synthetic images closely mirror the training data. Compared to traditional augmentation techniques such as rotation, flipping, and scaling, WGAN-generated data provides more diverse and realistic representations. Among the tested models, VGG16 achieved the highest accuracy of 83.33% after WGAN augmentation. Nonetheless, computational resource limitations posed challenges in training stability and duration. Furthermore, issues related to model generalizability, as well as ethical and patient privacy considerations in using synthetic medical data, must be addressed to ensure responsible deployment in real-world clinical settings.

Abstract

Prosthetic foot mold making is a crucial stage in the production of prosthetic feet that are in accordance with the anatomy and user needs. This research aims to develop a method for making prosthetic foot mold using a reverse engineering approach with photogrammetry techniques. The process begins with scanning the sole of the foot using photogrammetry methods to obtain a three dimensional model. The scanned model is then converted into a CAD design which is used as the basis for mold making. The mold design was made by considering ergonomic aspects and ease of manufacturing in the next stage. The results showed that the average deviation was within the range of ±0.65 mm or 0.42%, with a maximum deviation of 1.42%. This method is capable of producing precise casts that match the geometry of the original foot. With this approach, it is expected to improve the quality and customization of prosthetic products in the future.

Abstract

This mentoring program on coffee cultivation, implemented through training in red-cherry picking and selective harvesting techniques, was conducted to improve the quality of coffee yields in Jengglungharjo Village, Tanggunggunung District, Tulungagung Regency. The abundant coffee production in the area holds significant potential as a driver of the local economy. However, the quality of the coffee beans has remained low due to mixed-harvest practices and the farmers’ limited understanding of proper harvesting procedures. The program was carried out in three main stages: delivering material on the importance of harvesting fully ripe coffee cherries, providing training on effective harvesting techniques, and offering initial post-harvest assistance to ensure that red-cherry yields were processed correctly. The results showed a significant improvement in farmers’ knowledge and skills in identifying ripe cherries and applying selective harvesting practices. Farmers began to understand the relationship between proper harvesting methods and improvements in coffee bean quality, including the increased proportion of premium-grade beans in both natural and full-washed processes. This training is expected to serve as an initial foundation for promoting more sustainable, productive, and economically valuable coffee cultivation practices for the community of Jengglungharjo Village.

Abstract

Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) technology is widely applied in the fabrication of transtibial prosthetic sockets due to its operational simplicity and high design flexibility. However, prolonged printing time remains a major constraint in improving production efficiency for clinical and industrial applications. This study aims to optimize the printing time of transtibial prosthetic sockets by adjusting three process parameters: socket wall thickness (1, 2, and 3 mm), thermoplastic filament type (PLA, ABS, and PP), and nozzle diameter (0.4 mm, 0.6 mm, and 0.8 mm). The Taguchi method with an L9 orthogonal array was employed as the experimental design. All specimens were fabricated using a Flashforge Guider II Series printer, and the printing time was evaluated using the Signal to Noise (S/N) ratio with the “smaller is better” criterion and analysis of variance (ANOVA) at a significance level of α = 0.05. The results indicate that nozzle diameter has the most significant effect on printing time, contributing 55.40%, followed by wall thickness at 39.51%, while material type contributes only 1.24% and is not statistically significant. The optimal parameter combination 1 mm wall thickness, PLA filament, and a 0.8 mm nozzle diameter reduced the average printing time by 24%, with a coefficient of variation below 5%. Confirmation tests yielded a validation S/N ratio of −64.58 dB, confirming the stability of the printing process. These findings provide practical guidance for accelerating the production rate of FDM based prosthetic sockets and suggest further research focusing on mechanical performance evaluation, infill pattern variation, and multi objective optimization.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between electron beam energy and electric charge, as well as the relationship between deviation and energy, to evaluate the output stability of the LINAC machine. Measurements were conducted at BPAFK Surabaya using a Varian TrueBeam LINAC at Hospital X, East Java. The study employed electron energies of 6 MeV, 9 MeV, 12 MeV, 16 MeV, and 18 MeV. The procedure included filling the water phantom with distilled water, setting the source-to-surface distance (SSD) to 100 cm with a radiation field size of 10 cm × 10 cm, and connecting the detector to the electrometer outside the LINAC room. Calibration was performed at the reference depth (Zref) based on the R₅₀ value from the Percentage Depth Dose (PDD) table according to the IAEA TRS-398 standard. Measurements were repeated five times with voltage variations of +300 V, −300 V, and +75 V. The results showed that the maximum electric charge occurred at 12 MeV at a depth of 2.96 cm, while the highest deviation, −0.15%, was observed at 16 MeV—still within the ±2% tolerance limit. Therefore, the LINAC machine is considered stable and suitable for use in radiotherapy.
