Abstract

Keywords: Stevia rebaudiana Bert, tabir surya, krim .

Abstract

Waste of tea is still limited in terms of utilization, potentially to be made into nanocarbon. In this research, nanocarbon synthesis from the waste of tea through carbonation method using furnace and purification with HNO3 with activator substance used is H3PO4. The specific objective of this study was to determine the optimal levels and ratios of ortho-phosphoric acid and to determine the properties and characteristics of nanocarbon from tea waste. Based on the FT-IR spectra, the best ortho-phosphate acid levels and ratios are 50% and 1:2 (w/w) H3PO4. The XRD analysis showed that the activated carbon dregs obtained were C graphite which was characterized by the diffraction peak at 2theta: 26.2°; 26.5°; 42.2°; 42.4°; and 44.3°. Based on the TEM image obtained shows that the activated carbon of the resulting tea waste has a particle size of 20-40 nm.

Abstract

Humans need water with good quality to fulfill their needs. Water with high hardness content will have a bad impact if consumed continuously, so the adsorption method is carried out to reduce the concentration of Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions. The adsorption process uses sugarcane bagasse activated carbon (SBAC) and the tested water sample is well water in District Jati, Kudus. Synthesis of SBAC was conducted with H3PO4 30% as an activator at an impregnation ratio of 1:5 (w/w) at temperature 700°C. The FTIR result showed that SBAC contains O-H, C-H, C=C, C≡C, and C-O as functional groups. Analysis result with the XRD instrument showed that the microstructure of SBAC that is formed is turbostatic structure and amorphous. Modeling isotherm suitable for SBAC adsorption on Ca2+ ions is Langmuir isotherm where the R2 value is 0.9134 which shows that the adsorption process occurs chemically and monolayer. Modeling isotherm suitable for SBAC adsorption on Mg2+ ions is Elovich isotherm where the R2 value is 0.8638 which means that the adsorption process is multilayer and adsorption in non-ideal conditions. Modeling kinetics suitable for SBAC adsorption on Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions is Pseudo Orde 2 where the R2 value is 0.9395 and 0.7274. Percent efficiency value of sugarcane activated carbon adsorption of Ca2+ dan Mg2+ ions on District Jati, Kudus well water is 14.44% and 8.94% and 40 minutes stirring time.

Abstract

Cassava peel is a natural material that is still underutilized even though has the potential as an alternative to activated carbon precursors. In the synthesis of activated carbon, the impregnation ratio and activation temperature are important factors that affect the characteristics of the activated carbon produced. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in the impregnation ratio (carbon: H3PO4) and activation temperature on the characteristics of activated carbon from cassava peel (CPAC) and to determine the optimal conditions in the manufacture of CPAC. In this study, CPAC was produced by treatment with various impregnation ratios of 1:5, 1:6, 1:8, 1:10, and 1:12 (w/w, carbon: H3PO4 30%) and a range activation temperature variation of 400 - 800 °C in the furnace for 60 minutes. The CPAC results were analyzed using FTIR, XRD, and SEM-EDX instruments. Based on the results of the FTIR test, it is showed that the characteristics of CPAC contain functional groups O–H, C–H, C≡C, C=C, C–O/P=O with an impregnation ratio of 1:6 (w/w, carbon: H3PO4 30%) and an activation temperature of 500 °C for 60 minutes to be the optimal conditions in the production of CPAC. The CPAC has an amorphous crystalline character based on XRD analysis and a hollow (porous) surface based on SEM analysis. The results of the EDX test showed that CPAC consisted of the elements carbon (C), oxygen (O), nitrogen (N), phosphate (P), sodium (Na) with the respective percentages being 72.60%, 15.52%, 10 .32%, 1.09%, and 0.47% respectively.

Abstract

Hydroxyapatite (HAp) was one of synthetic compounds synthesized from raw materials like eggshells, HAp initiated to applied in toothpaste formulations as active compounds role as abrasives, remineralitation agents and antibacteries against caries. The aim of this study was to measured the antibacterial activity of HAp synthesized from Local Duck (A. platyrhynchos javanica) eggshells against 4 species of caries bacteries: S. mutans, L. acidophyllus, N. asteroides and N. asteroides. The concentration of HAp separated into 3 levels: 100, 500 and 1000ppm, the antibacterial activity of HAp only produced against L. acidophyllus at 1000ppm concentration of HAp, the diameter of inhibitory showed 5,19 ± 0,0203mm, this activity belongs to weak activity then need to modified the HAp to increasing the antibacterial activity. The HAp modificated by Mix and Doped. The strongest antibacterial showed by Silver (Ag) doped, with diameter of inhibitory against 4 caries bacteries sequentaly 17,91 ± 0,1723mm; 23,10 ± 0,0361mm; 19,06 ± 0,0348mm; and 19,12 ± 0,0493mm; those modifications increating the antibacterial from weak to strong and very strong range.

Abstract

Stekurmin MD is a syrup preparation formulated from the extract of Stevia rebaudiana leaves, temu lawak (Curcuma zanthorrhiza), and honey. One of the active compounds in Stekurmin MD products is phenolic and flavonoid compounds in which the active phenolic and flavonoid compounds can be degraded during the storage period. This study aimed to determine the shelf life of Stekurmin MD products based on the degradation of phenolic compounds and flavonoids. The Accelerated Shelf Life Test (ASLT) method was used in determining the shelf life kinetics of this product. Phenolic and flavonoid concentrations were determined using the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method with the gallic acid standard for phenolic and quercetin standard for flavonoids. Degradation of phenolic and flavonoid compounds was determined every 7 days during 35 days of storage at 25, 35, 45, and 55°C ± 2°C. In natural ingredients, there is a multi-mechanism reaction. The shelf life of Stekurmin MD products based on the degradation of phenolic and flavonoid active ingredients at room temperature were 39.909 days and 23.53 hours, respectively.
