Abstract

Groupers are one of the most important and commercial fishes; many of the species are classified as Life Reef Fish Trade (LRFT). The number of grouper species in these locations may be more diverse than at other sites. Identifying the species number of a grouper is essential for mapping reef fitness. However, morphological identification of groupers is relatively difficult. Molecular methods such as DNA barcoding could be an option and even serve as reliable validation. Therefore, this research was conducted to identify groupers belonging to the Serranidae family. The grouper samples were obtained from the fish market in Waisai, Raja Ampat, Indonesia. The DNA barcoding employed the COI genes to accurately identify groupers. The Qiagen DNeasy 96 tissue extraction kit was used to extract DNA, and Primer Fish F1/R1 was applied. The sequences were analysed using ClustalW in MEGA 7.0 and phylogenetic tree was generated using the NJ (Neighbour Joining) method. Eleven species of groupers belonging to five taxa were discovered in Waisai, Raja Ampat. Anyperodon, Cephalopholis, Epinephelus, Plectropomus, and Variola are the grouper genera. Epinephelus was the predominant genus within the serranidae family, with 51.4% of the total. The International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Red List category puts the majority of grouper species in the 'Least Concerned' category. This study confirmed the effectiveness of DNA barcoding for species identification and the value of the COI gene for Grouper's phylogenetic research. The outcome offers information about fisheries resources, which should be helpful in managing fisheries in reef ecosystems.

Abstract

Mangroves are an ecosystem that has an important function for coastal areas, the existence of mangroves provides ecological, economic, and social functions. Therefore, mangrove ecosystem management must be carried out using an environmental sustainability approach and natural resource sustainability to avoid damage to the existence of the mangrove ecosystem. This research aims to analyze the status of sustainability of mangrove ecosystem management in the Mangrove Hijau Daun area, Daun Village, Sangkapura District, Bawan Island, Gresik Regency. This research was carried out from June to August 2023. The method used was RAPFISH (Rapid Appraisal for Fisheries) analysis with a Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) approach based on ecological, economic, social, and institutional dimensions. The results of the research show that the sustainability status of the mangrove ecosystem in the green leaf mangrove area of Bawean Island obtained a multidimensional index value of 72.56, including in the quite sustainable category, each dimension has an index value, namely the ecological dimension of 88.68, the economic dimension of 49.80. , the social dimension is 78.40, and the institutional dimension is 88.12. The economic dimension is a dimension whose management needs to be encouraged because it has an index value in the less sustainable category.

Abstract

Nowadays, there are still many high capacity generators have not yet protected completely from their internal ground faults. They still rely on differential and over current relays. It is seen that this relay will reduce their sensitivities when applied to generators with high impedance grounding systems. To overcome such problem, a combination protection scheme of the neutral overvoltage (59N) and neutral undervoltage third harmonics (27N3) is developed. This paper aims to design the protection scheme for high capacity generators. This paper demonstrates the designing of neutral grounding transformer (NGT) system, the relay settings and reviewing of their sensitivities. To clarify the concepts this study uses a generator 802 MVA, 22.8 kV as object. The results show that the protection scheme is very effective to protect 100% of generator stator with relays overlapping of 31.5%. It needs NGT transformer with capacity of only 28.33 kVA, 15000/240 V, and the secondary resistor of 0.38,117 kW. This paper can hopefully be used as one reference for protection system engineers to design or develop protection schemes in their fields especially whose generator has not equipped yet with such protection scheme.

Abstract

World Register of Marine Species (https://www.marinespecies.org/).

Abstract

Abstract

Besides overfishing, other factors that influence the decline in blue swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) production are diseases caused by parasites. Poor environmental conditions could trigger parasite infestation on their host. This study aims to identify ectoparasites morphologically based on the research location and to analyze the prevalence of ectoparasites of the blue swimming crabs. Crab samples and data collection of aquatic environmental parameters were carried out at five locations in the northern part of Java Island, Indonesia: Pasuruan, Lamongan, Semarang, Cirebon, and Banten. The study was conducted from December 2021 to July 2023. Morphological identification of ectoparasites was carried out at the Biology Micro Laboratory I, Department of Aquatic Resources Management, IPB University. Interviews with fishermen were also conducted to ensure the crab catchment area around the research location. The number of blue swimming crabs obtained at each location varied, ranging from 25 to 35 individuals, consisting of large, medium, and small crabs. Based on the results of morphological identification, there were a total of five types of parasites found in all research locations, namely Allokepon sp., Chelonibia testudinaria, Octolasmis angulata, Octolasmis warwickii, and Octolasmis sp. The prevalence rate of crabs in each location was significantly different in five locations, namely Pasuruan, Lamongan, Semarang, Cirebon, and Banten, which were 80%, 74%, 80%, 12%, and 70%, respectively. The highest prevalence was in Pasuruan and Semarang. Factors affecting the prevalence rate of ectoparasites in blue swimming crabs included environmental quality such as temperature, salinity, pH, and dissolved oxygen (DO).
