Abstract

CV. XYZ is a company engaged in the garment manufacturing industry, specifically in the production of Muslim clothing. The problem faced by CV. XYZ is the failure to meet production targets. The inability to achieve hourly production targets is due to the presence of bottlenecks at several workstations. A bottleneck is a term used to describe a condition where a workstation has a lower capacity than the production requirements. The aim of this research is to identify and analyze the factors causing bottlenecks in the production process at CV. XYZ. The method used to address this issue is the Time and Motion Study method. The new working method was derived from the process of identifying movements and work times. The results showed that bottlenecks could be resolved by improving the working method. One way to minimize bottlenecks is by designing a new working method, which is achieved by eliminating ineffective and inefficient activities or work elements. The implementation of the time and motion study method successfully increased production efficiency compared to the previous method. This is reflected in the reduction of the production cycle time from 300 seconds to 158 seconds. The application of time and motion studies in this research has made a significant contribution to the development of production management theory, particularly in understanding the impact of bottlenecks on company performance. Therefore, the results of this study can serve as a reference for manufacturing companies in identifying and addressing bottlenecks in the production process.

Abstract

Artikel ini dibuat untuk melaporkan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat melalui Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) yang dilaksanakan di Kampung Dukuh Desa Karyamukti Kecamatan Cibatu Kabupaten Garut. Kegiatan yang dilaksanakan bertujuan untuk membantu pemerintah dalam sosialisasi dan dampak wabah Covid -19 di daerah tersebut. Program kerja yang dilaksanakan terdiri sosialisasi pengetahuan mengenai Covid-19, literasi digital, dan peningkatan kapasitas daerah. Program kerja yang dibuat dilaksanakan dalam waktu empat minggu di bulan Agustus 2020. Terdapat empat aktivitas utama yang dilaksanakan yaitu aktivitas peningkatan pengetahuan Covid-19 di Masyarakat Kampung Dukuh, aktivitas peningkatan kapasitas, karena masyarakat Kampung Dukuh sebagian besar bermata pencaharian petani/buruh tani, aktivitas Literasi Digital pada masyarakat Kampung Dukuh, dan aktivitas pengabdian atau kemannusiaan kita dalam gotong royong bersama masyarakat Kampung Dukuh Hasil dari kegiatan tersebut adalah masyakat di daerah sasaran mendapatkan pengetahuan mengenai Covid -19, literasi digital, dan peningkatan kapasitas daerah.

Abstract

Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Garut 2020 dimulai dari tanggal 1 Agustus sampai dengan 30 Agustus 2020 di Desa Maripari Kecamatan Sukawening. Tujuan utama KKN 2020 ini adalah untuk memberikan pengetahuan dan pencegahan Covid-19 pada masyarakat desa Maripari. Program yang dilaksanakan gi menjadi empat pokok kegiatan, yaitu meliputi kegiatan Literasi dengan materi Covid-19, pendataan dan kemanusian, peningkatan kapasitas dan pembuatan konten Covid-19. Hasil kegiatan literasi materi Covid-19 diantaranya adalah memberikan penyuluhan kepada masyarakat dan para pelajar. Hasil kegiatan bidang peningkatan kapasitas diantaranya mengidentifikasi usaha mikro kecil menengah, pendataan dan kemanusian melakukan pendataan mengenai profil desa Maripari dan juga melakukan kegiatan kemanusiaan dengan penyemprotan cairan disinfektan. Hasil dari pembuatan konten adalah kerja informasi tetang Covid-19 yang diunggah dalam media digital. Secara umum kegiatan yang dilaksanakan berjalan dengan baik berkat Kerjasama yang baik dengan aparat desa dan masyarakat.

Abstract

Implementing standards in the food industry is mandatory for companies aiming to compete in the market. These standards are known as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in food production processes. GMP implementation ensures product safety and compliance with industry requirements. This study aims to analyze the application of GMP standards at PD Sumpia 17. The 5S method (seiri, seiton, seiso, seiketsu, and shitsuke) was incorporated to improve the work environment during production activities. The analysis revealed that the company needs to optimize its facility layout. The Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) method, optimized with CRAFT, was used to redesign the layout. As the proposed improvements require investment, an economic feasibility test was conducted to assess their viability. The study recommends that facility and layout upgrades align with GMP and 5S standards, presenting the proposed layout in a 3D visualization. The required investment amounts to IDR 37,768,000. Feasibility analysis shows an IRR of 27.89%, exceeding the MARR of 16.35%, confirming the investment's financial viability.. Penerapan standar dalam industri makanan merupakan kewajiban bagi perusahaan yang ingin berkompetisi di pasar. Dalam proses produksi makanan dikenal dengan Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Penerapan standar GMP untuk memastikan keamanan produk dan memenuhi standar industri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penerapan standar GMP di PD Sumpia 17. Metode 5S (seiri, seiton, seiso, seiketsu, dan shitsuke) ditambahkan untuk menciptakan lingkungan kerja yang baik pada kegiatan proses produksinya. Berdasarkan analisis tersebut, diperoleh temuan bahwa perusahaan perlu melakukan perbaikan tata letak fasilitas pabriknya. Metode yang digunakan untuk perancangan tata letak fasilitas adalah metode Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) yang dioptimalisasi dengan metode CRAFT. Implementasi rancangan perbaikan memerlukan investasi, untuk itu perlu dilakukan uji kelayakan secara ekonomis apakah perbaikan layak dilaksanakan. Hasil penelitian merekomendasikan perbaikan fasilitas dan tata letak agar sesuai standar GMP dan 5S. Rancangan tata letak usulan disajikan dalam bentuk visualisasi 3D. Investasi yang diperlukan sebesar Rp 37.768.000,00. Analisis kelayakan menunjukkan IRR 27,89%, melebihi MARR 16,35%, sehingga investasi ini layak dijalankan.

Abstract

This study investigates production bottlenecks at the packing station of PT Anta Boga Pangan Nusantara, where manual operations resulted in prolonged cycle times and reduced efficiency. The research aims to design and implement a Karakuri Kaizen–based Lean Mover to minimize work time and enhance process performance. A quantitative approach was employed, involving direct observation, time measurement, and process analysis. The implementation of the Lean Mover successfully reduced the cycle time from 158.08 seconds to 24.74 seconds, outperforming the target takt time of 27 seconds. These findings demonstrate that low-cost, energy-efficient mechanical systems can effectively eliminate non-value-added activities, balance operator workloads, and improve productivity in food industry operations. The novelty of this study lies in the application of Karakuri Kaizen within the food manufacturing sector, a field rarely explored in previous research, thereby extending its applicability beyond conventional industrial settings. The study contributes theoretically by providing empirical evidence of Karakuri Kaizen’s effectiveness in optimizing manual operations in resource-constrained environments, and practically by offering an ergonomic, sustainable, and affordable alternative to high-cost automation systems.

Abstract

LPG gas leaks in households are often found to be the cause of house fires. This study aims to design an Arduino-based LPG gas leak detector by applying ergonomic principles, both physical and cognitive, to improve user safety and comfort, especially in the household environment. Using the Ergonomic Function Deployment (EFD) method, the device design is tailored to the user's body dimensions and sensory abilities. This device is capable of effectively detecting gas leaks, providing warnings through sound alarms, indicator lights, and smartphone notifications. The results of the study show that the designed device is not only ergonomic, but also more efficient and safer than similar existing products. This product is expected to prevent potential fires caused by LPG gas leaks and improve safety in the household environment.

Abstract

This study examines the problems faced by elderly farmers who have difficulty feeding their livestock manually. This can lead to a decline in productivity. The aim of this study is to create a tool design that is not only functional but also considers ergonomic aspects, so that it is comfortable and easy to use for elderly farmers. The method used is the Ergonomic Function Deployment (EFD) method up to the prototype design stage. The results of this study are nine technical specifications derived from six ergonomic attributes. The prototype design has a cost estimate of Rp. 1,992,000.00. The product still requires field testing for usability testing.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that cause workplace accidents and to develop a plan to address them. A lack of occupational health and safety, unsafe behavior, and unsafe and unhealthy working conditions have led to accidents during the production process of birthday candles at PD. Sinar Baruna Abadi. To prevent such incidents from recurring, it is necessary to implement controls through an accident prevention plan using the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and HIRADC (Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Determining Control) methods.The methodology consists of three stages: hazard identification through interviews and field observations, followed by risk assessment by analyzing the likelihood and severity of each potential hazard. The study identified 24 potential hazards in the birthday candle production process, categorized by high, medium, and low risk levels.Planning and control were carried out for five risks with varying values. A risk value of 8 involved activities such as pouring materials and removing candles from molds, with risks of burns and blistered hands. A risk value of 9 was associated with removing candles and dipping them into hot paraffin, posing risks of hand burns and respiratory issues. The highest risk (value 10) occurred during the candle dipping process in hot paraffin, with exposure to hot chemical substances that could cause severe burns.Control measures were focused on risks with values of 9 and 10, including the installation of turbine ventilators to reduce exposure to fumes and vapors.

Abstract

This study aims to improve operator discipline in the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at PT. Baja Kurnia through a participatory ergonomics approach. Quantitative methods were used, involving 48 operators, division heads, and an ergonomics expert in the process of identifying problems and implementing solutions. Based on the hazard and operability study (HAZOP) analysis, 13 potential extreme risks were identified, with the main causes being low knowledge and attitude towards PPE (52.9% each). A visual display design was chosen as the solution because it was easy to understand and feasible to implement. Validation of the solution showed a 29.4% increase in knowledge and a 17.6% increase in positive attitudes toward PPE. These results indicate that visual displays are effective in improving operator work discipline. The practical implication of this study is that visual displays can be part of occupational safety strategies in the manufacturing sector, particularly in strengthening a culture of discipline and accident prevention.

Abstract

Wengku is a semi-finished material used in the production of birdcages. The material used to make wengku is bamboo. The process of making wengku is carried out daily. Over time, artisans have been required to produce more than one bundle of wengku per day. Daily demand does not fall below 3 to 4 bundles. Artisans must find ways to increase production capacity to meet this demand. The high demand can negatively impact the artisans' performance due to fatigue and boredom from repetitive work, resulting in suboptimal production. To improve the efficiency of wengku production, a supporting tool is needed to help artisans become more productive. The purpose of this study is to design an ergonomic bamboo-smoothing tool for wengku production that also increases production capacity. The method used is the Ergonomic Function Deployment (EFD) method, which is an evolution of Quality Function Deployment (QFD). EFD creates a new relationship between customer desires and the ergonomic components of a product. The result of this study is the design of an ergonomic bamboo-smoothing tool for wengku, which can increase production capacity. However, the final tool design differs slightly from the initial concept due to adjustments made based on the available raw materials. Testing of the tool showed that it is functional and effective, increasing production capacity by up to two times. Previously, using a manual process, only one bundle of wengku could be produced per day, but with this tool, production can reach up to two bundles per day.
