Abstract

Abstract. Mildawati, Hanafi SPS, Putri E, Aziz MA, Ivani S, Nurhasna, Solfiyeni. 2025. Micromorphological analysis of spores on various species of pteridophytes: Implications for species identifications. Biodiversitas 26: 2332-2338. Pteridophytes, a group of vascular plants, play a critical role in ecosystem balance. However, taxonomic challenges persist in identifying and classifying their species. Spore micromorphological characters, unique to each species, offer a potential solution to these issues. This study aimed to examine the spore micromorphology of several pteridophyte species growing on the Universitas Andalas campus, Padang, Indonesia. The species examined included Antrophyum callifolium, Asplenium nidus, Davallia denticulata, Pteris vittata, Pyrrosia adnascens, P. longifolia, and P. piloselloides. Spore samples were observed using a binocular light microscope with a magnification 40x objective lens and documented with the OptiLabView4 application. The results revealed that most pteridophytes spores studied exhibited a monolete laesura type with an ellipsoid shape, except for A. callifolium and P. vittata, which showed a trilete laesura type with a tetrahedral shape. Exospore ornamentation was varied: verrucate in A. callifolium, A. nidus, D. denticulata, and P. vittata; reticulate in P. adnascens and P. longifolia; and echinate in P. piloselloides. Spore sizes were categorized as medium (25-50 ?m) for A. callifolium, A. nidus, D. denticulata, and P. vittata.; and large (60 ?m) for P. adnascens, P. longifolia, and P. piloselloides. Spore micromorphology of pteridophytes on the Universitas Andalas campus, revealing significant diversity in size, shape, and ornamentation.

Abstract

The genus Lepisorus (Polypodiaceae) exhibits high morphological, ecological, and genetic diversity, often complicating species delimitation based on single lines of evidence. This study synthesized evidence on ecological adaptation, distribution patterns, and the genetic mechanisms underlying diversification in Lepisorus through a systematic review of primary articles published between 2015 and 2025, retrieved from major international databases. The results indicate close evolutionary relationships between Lepisorus waltonii and L. clathratus based on chloroplast genome data, while L. scolopendrium and L. bicolor exhibit pronounced ecological plasticity associated with habitat disturbance. Cytological variation, including diploid and tetraploid cytotypes within the L. clathratus complex, correlates with elevational distribution and environmental tolerance. Additionally, polyploidy and hybridization in L. nigripes and L. yamaokae contribute to the diversification of their lineages. These findings underscore the need for an integrative taxonomic approach that combines morphological, molecular, cytological, and ecological data to accurately delimit species in Lepisorus.

Abstract

Recently, environmental problems have become a significant concern throughout the world. One of the most pressing issues is effective and sustainable waste management. In connection with this issue, community service activities have been carried out with the title efforts to use orange peel waste as an Eco enzyme, one of the efforts to utilize household organic waste. Kolok Nan Tuo Village is one of the villages that have orange crop commodities. So far, people must learn how to manage orange peel waste so it only becomes waste in the surrounding environment. The use of enzymes in organic waste processing has been widely researched. Eco enzyme, namely an enzyme developed with an environmentally friendly approach. This activity aims to inform the public about the impact of unmanaged organic waste (organic waste), the benefits and advantages of using Eco enzyme, how to make the Eco enzyme, and practice how to make Eco enzyme from orange peel waste. The methods used in this activity are the literature study, survey, counseling, and direct practice on making Citrus nobilis Lour Eco enzyme. The community was enthusiastic about this activity, as shown by the many questions and the desire to participate in direct practice in making Eco enzymes. Abstract

The National Science Olympiad (OSN) is a prestigious event that involves the best students from various levels of education who have passed a rigorous selection at the district and provincial levels. One way to improve the quality of students in facing the OSN in Science and Mathematics is through structured coaching. The OSN Science and Mathematics Workshop held around the UNAND campus in Padang City is one such effort that has proven successful. The objectives of this workshop include three main aspects, namely improving the competence of high school students in basic science and mathematics, improving students' skills in solving OSN questions and improving the quality of high school education in Padang City. The workshop consisted of three main stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. In the planning stage, OSN questions from the previous year were collected to be used as learning materials. The implementation stage involved a series of activities, including a pre-test, structured learning through lectures, question simulations, and discussions using audiovisual aids. The evaluation was conducted through a post-test to measure the improvement of students' understanding after attending the workshop. The results of this workshop showed a significant increase in the understanding of students who had participated from 30% to 60%. This illustrates the effectiveness of a sustainable and structured approach in improving student competencies to face OSN competitions in Science and Mathematics. This workshop could become a model for efforts to improve the quality of education in schools around the campus. It can be an inspiration for other educational institutions. Abstract

Abstract Saureinu is a village located in the interior of Sipora Island, Mentawai Islands Regency. The majority of the village's population works as banana farmers. This community service activity aims to build the Saureinu Village community's capacity to manage banana potential into high-value products, support the village's economic independence, and strengthen the community-based economy. The methods used include a participatory approach with stages of potential and problem surveys, technical training on banana product diversification, and training in small business management and marketing through digital platforms. The results of this program show significant success in improving the skills of the Saureinu Village community in processing bananas into various innovative products with economic value. Products such as banana chips with multiple flavors, banana jam, nuggets, and frozen bananas ready to fry are the main results of the training and mentoring provided. These products have been successfully developed and marketed locally and through a wider distribution network, opening up new market opportunities for the community. In addition, this program positively impacts community income due to the sale of processed banana products. Participants also gain a deeper understanding of small business management, from raw material management to marketing strategies, including digital marketing relevant to current market needs. With the increase in skills and knowledge, the community is more confident in developing businesses based on local potential, which ultimately supports the creation of community-based economic independence. This program proves that processing local agricultural products can effectively improve community welfare in a sustainable manner. Abstract

Nagari Simawang has strong agricultural potential, yet the community faces limited yard utilization, dependence on costly chemical inputs, and low awareness of sustainable farming practices. This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of residents, particularly women’s groups (PKK) and farmer groups, through practical and eco-friendly agricultural innovations. Activities were conducted in January 2026 using counseling, demonstrations, and participatory training. The program introduced three innovations: (1) microgreens cultivation using cocopeat media for limited spaces; (2) liquid organic fertilizer production from rice washing water and onion peel waste; and (3) botanical pesticide preparation from mature papaya leaves. The results indicated high participant enthusiasm, active engagement, and improved ability to independently apply the introduced techniques. In addition, participants gained greater awareness of household waste utilization and sustainable farming systems. Overall, these simple technologies proved practical and effective in strengthening household food security, reducing production costs, and promoting environmental sustainability in Nagari Simawang.
