Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus requires aggressive long-term therapy to decrease morbidity and mortality. Non-adherence to oral antidiabetic therapy represents a barrier to treatment that could lead to the deterioration of patient health. This study aimed to develop an indicator for predicting glycemic control among patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: This unmatched case-control study recruited 110 patients from the Primary Health Care center in Palembang City. The chi-square test was used for certain variables, and multivariate analysis was performed using unconditional logistic regression to assess the effects of different variables after considering certain sociodemographic and economic characteristics as potential confounding variables. Results: The results revealed no statistically significant association of sociodemographic and economic variables (sex, age, education, and employment) with glycemic control. Family history of diabetes, duration of diabetes, body mass index, adherence, monitoring, therapy, and comorbidity were associated with glycemic control. Conclusions: Continuous education of primary care physicians is one way of improving skills for managing hyperglycemic patients. However, the challenge in treating patients with type 2 diabetes is to shift the main criterion from a disease-oriented to patient-centered approach in the context of patients' circumstances. Additionally, our developed indicator can be used as a screening test for assessing glycemic.

Abstract

Tubuh manusia memiliki banyak irama, salah satunya bioritme.

Abstract

Background: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a pandemic that may complicate the active detection of Tuberculosis (TB) and increase the mortality rate. This pushes for more effective and efficient case finding to mitigate the possible growing number of TB mortality. Objective: The purpose of this research was to identify TB among workers and to analyze the correlation between human, environmental, behavioral, and economic factors with TB findings among workers during the COVID-19 period. Methods: This research employed a case-control method conducted from January to December 2020. In total, 120 employees were included in this research. The employees were divided into two groups, sixty workers were involved in the TB case group, and another sixty workers were in the control group. We reported TB patients from several Public Health Center (Puskesmas) in each regency of South Sumatera, Indonesia. Sputum testing was performed by the rapid molecular tests (GeneXpert) and Ziehl-Neelsen to confirm the diagnosis of TB infection. We performed a Chi-square analysis to analyze factors that can influence TB cases. Results: In comparison to the control group, we found the association of age, body mass index, occupation, and sun exposure to the incidence of active TB cases (p<0.05).Conclusion: Since statistically significant differences between the two groups have been identified, the incidence of TB in workers might be affected by age, occupation, BMI, and exposure to sunlight. Associated significant variables can be integrated into the TB control program for better case-finding practice to recognize concealed burdens of TB that are overlooked due to COVID-19. This research was funded by Sainteks Sriwijaya University 2020.

Abstract

During this pandemic, many people are looking for antiseptics to prevent the transmission and spread of Covid-19. WHO has issued guidelines for the producing Hand-Sanitizers using ingredients, such as ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, however, the continuous use of hand sanitizers that contain alcohol and triclosan can cause irritation. Efforts that can be made to reduce the use of alcohol and triclosan in the production of hand sanitizers are to use natural ingredients. One of the natural ingredients that can be used is lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus). The flavonoid content in lemongrass function as antibacterial by forming complex compounds with extracellular proteins. This community service activity aims to provide training on skills in making antiseptic soap and handsanitiser with lemongrass as an effort to prevent and maintain sanitation to stay healthy in the face of adaptations to new habits during the COVID-19 pandemic.
