Abstract

Aquaponics is an environmentally friendly agricultural alternative that integrates fish farming and plant cultivation within a single ecosystem. This concept is particularly suitable for household-scale application, as it enhances the use of home yards and supports family food security. This Muhammadiyah Community Partnership Program aimed to: (1) improve the knowledge and skills of members of Aisyiyah Branch Medan Perjuangan in constructing aquaponic systems, and (2) raise awareness of the importance of environmentally based sustainable agriculture. The training was conducted using a participatory approach involving socialization, hands-on practice, and active discussion. The program successfully increased participants' awareness and motivation to utilize their home yards productively. Participants demonstrated high enthusiasm throughout the activity, with hopes that similar training initiatives could be extended and developed in other communities.

Abstract

This study was conducted in Sunggal District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, with the objective of analyzing the production scale of rice farming through the Return to Scale (RTS) approach. The research used primary data collected from 100 rice farmers selected using simple random sampling. Production factors analyzed included land area, fertilizer, and labor. The analytical method employed was a Cobb–Douglas production function estimated using multiple linear regression in logarithmic form. The RTS value was obtained by summing the elasticity coefficients of the production factors. The results showed that the sum of production elasticities was 1.241, indicating that rice farming in Sunggal District operates under increasing returns to scale. This condition implies that proportional increases in production inputs result in a more than proportional increase in output. Therefore, rice production in the study area still has the potential to be increased through the expansion and optimization of production inputs

Abstract

Indonesia has experienced an increase in national population, the Government is targeting rice production of 54.50 million tons in 2023. North Sumatra Province has the largest rice production on the island of Sumatra, 2,088,584 tons. The effectiveness of the Agricultural Extension Service (BPP) in Percut Sei Tuan is of concern to researchers. This research method uses a differential semantic measurement scale or attitude scale to analyze performance data.  The number of samples determined in the research was 10 farmers per village so that the number of samples from all villages was 30 rice farmers with 5-point rating scale and the choices "Very Good" to "Very Poor" with the interval scale formula {a(m-n)}/b and the number of question attributes is 12 points, and the class interval is 9.6. The results performance is in the "Very Good" performance category with an average score of 4.24. However, based on their respective scores of 3.03, there is a low score of 2.53 in the category of agricultural extension officers who do not assist farmers in obtaining agricultural financing, nor do they help market their agricultural products. Extension officers have carried out but are still not optimal with answers from one research category.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) Determine the perception of Gen Z in Kotapinang District towards the profession of farmer, (2) Determine the interest of Gen Z in Kotapinang District towards the profession of farmer, (3) Determine the factors that influence the interest of Gen Z in Kotapinang District in choosing a profession as a farmer. The method used is descriptive analysis to explain consumer characteristics, determine the perception of Gen Z and Gen Z's interest, and multiple linear regression analysis to determine what factors influence the interest of Gen Z in Kotapinang District to work as a farmer. The results of the study show that the characteristics of those participating in this study are Gen Z who have not worked or who do not have permanent jobs, and the majority of Gen Z who participated most in this study came from Kotapinang Village, and most respondents were female. The age of the respondents who participated most was 22 years old as many as 50 people, and the majority of respondents had a Diploma/Bachelor's degree. The results of the descriptive analysis also show that as many as 54% of Gen Z in Kotapinang District have a positive perception of the farming profession, in addition as many as 52% of Gen Z in Kotapinang District have a high interest in the farming profession. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis show that the factors that significantly influence Gen Z's interest in choosing a profession as a farmer are motivational factors, education level factors, and lifestyle factors. Meanwhile, income factors and social and community environmental factors do not significantly influence Gen Z's interest in choosing a profession as a farmer.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the dynamics of regional economic growth based on expenditure components and their implications for agribusiness development in Deli Serdang Regency. The study uses a descriptive quantitative approach with simple time series data analysis based on quarterly GRDP data for 2025 sourced from the Central Statistics Agency. The variables analyzed include household consumption, government consumption, gross fixed capital formation (PMTB), and economic growth (GRDP). The results show that Deli Serdang Regency's economic growth is fluctuating with a contraction pattern in the first quarter (-2.84%), recovery in the second-third quarters (1.85% and 2.57%), and stabilization in the fourth quarter (1.19%). Household consumption has proven to be a relatively stable component in supporting economic growth, while government consumption and investment show significant fluctuations. Investment plays a crucial role in driving economic recovery, while government spending has not been fully effective in increasing sustainable economic growth. From an agribusiness perspective, consumption stability reflects consistent demand for food products, while fluctuations in investment and government spending indicate the need to strengthen policies that support sustainable agribusiness development. This study recommends optimizing productive investment and increasing the effectiveness of government spending to strengthen the agribusiness system and regional economic stability.
