Abstract

High water consumption in retort sterilization processes and the disposal of drain water with reuse potential highlight the need for an objective and automated water reuse feasibility assessment system. This study aims to develop an automated decision-making system based on Mamdani fuzzy logic to evaluate the reuse feasibility of retort drain water using turbidity, pH, and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) parameters. The scope of this research includes the design of a multi-parameter monitoring prototype, the implementation of a food-grade-based fuzzy inference system, and the integration of decision results with automated valve control. The study adopts a research and development approach, in which sensor data are processed in real-time using a Mamdani fuzzy inference system consisting of 27 rule bases with a turbidity-based rule override mechanism. Experimental results indicate that all sensors achieve accuracy below 1%, repeatability under 0.3%, and good linearity within their operational ranges. Fuzzy logic evaluation demonstrates a decision accuracy of 100% compared to manual calculations. Testing on 30 retort drain water samples shows that 26.67% are classified as reuse, 66.67% as treatment, and 6.67% as reject, resulting in a water-saving potential of 93.33%. The proposed system effectively improves water-use efficiency, reduces operational costs, and supports sustainable practices in the food processing industry.

Abstract

Addressing challenges in solar panel systems, hybrid energy storage systems have gained prominence but face distribution imbalances. This study presents a power distribution approach for hybrid systems in intermittent solar scenarios, leveraging First-Order Filters to allocate power between primary and supporting storage. By employing Lowpass and Highpass First-Order Filters, energy management issues in off-grid systems are addressed. Experimental findings reveal that during high intermittency, the battery stores 387 W and contributes 62 W, while the supercapacitor stores 297 W and contributes 167 W as the primary storage. Conversely, during low intermittency, the battery stores 390 W and contributes 62 W, while the supercapacitor stores 295 W and contributes 164 W. Surprisingly, the supercapacitor doesn't outperform the battery in power efficiency as the primary storage. This work contributes to enhancing the viability of solar-powered hybrid energy storage systems by optimizing power distribution strategies. Highlight: Distribution Imbalances in Hybrid Systems: Hybrid energy storage systems for solar panels face challenges in power distribution, motivating the need for innovative solutions. First-Order Filter Allocation: This research introduces a power distribution approach utilizing First-Order Filters to effectively allocate power between primary and supporting storage in intermittent solar scenarios. Comparative Power Efficiency: Experimental results demonstrate the performance of battery and supercapacitor as primary storage, revealing unexpected power efficiency outcomes under varying solar intermittency, informing strategic energy management decisions. Abstract

This study aims to design and implement an Arduino-based alginate mixer control system with Nextion Display as the user interface. This system was developed to improve the accuracy of mixing time and maintain the consistency of mixing results in the production process. The method used is a design with an experimental approach through testing several variations of stirring time and comparison with a conventional manual timer-based system. The parameters observed include time error and viscosity values of the mixing results. The test results show that the Arduino-based system has better time accuracy with smaller and more stable error values. This has an impact on more consistent viscosity results, which values obtained are in the range of 100–110 dPa·s according to process standards. In addition, the developed system also provides ease of operation and monitoring through real-time displays on the Nextion Display. Thus, this system can be a more effective alternative compared to conventional systems in the alginate mixing process.

Abstract

Monitoring energy in buildings can ease us to have a better understanding of electricity consumption patterns to support efficiency and avoid potential damages. However, indoor installations are mostly unmonitored because their panel meters are usually difficult to access. Yet, indoor maintenance tends to be more difficult since the cables are inside the wall, ceiling, or concrete. Internet of Things and big data analytics can be used to track electricity usage either in residential, commercial, or industrial buildings. This paper presents how a simple real-time energy data analytics was built at a low cost and high accuracy to inspect energy fluctuations, anomaly, and its significant pattern. We proposed 3 layers of architecture namely acquisition, transportation, and application management. An electronic module named PZEM004T was used to sense voltage, current, and other electrical parameters. Through a microcontroller ESP8266, the data was processed and sent it to an application layer via an existing wireless network. The actual and historical data of electricity were visualized on high-resolution graphs. The experiment was conducted at our office building. The experimental results showed that data of electrical energy usage can be captured close to realtime and power anomaly and pattern can be figured. Performance and functionality testing showed acceptable use of this system with more than 99% accuracy. This system is intended to empower building managers in evaluating the electrical network balance as well as anticipating damage due to overload, overvoltage, and voltage drop. If this model is widely implemented it will produce big data that is useful for advanced analysis.
