Abstract

ABSTRACT:Composite resins are currently the most popular restorative material in dentistry. This is due to good aesthetics and maximum conservation ability. Behind these advantages, there are disbenefits of composite resin materials, such as polymerization shrinkage, which can lead to restoration failure. Various attempts have been investigated to reduce the shrinkage incidence of composite resins, one of which is the technique of placing the restorative material into the cavity. The restoration filling technique is recognized as a significant factor in shrinkage stress. By using a special filling technique, the polymerization shrinkage damage stress can be reduced. There are several techniques in performing composite resin fillings, including bulk and incremental techniques. These techniques have their respective advantages and disadvantages. The aim of this literature review was to compare the physical properties of composite resin restorations with bulk filling and incremental techniques. Physical properties that being studied include polymerization shrinkage, stress shrinkage, degree of conversion, bonding strength, water resorption, color stability, and temperature increase. Comparing the two techniques, composite resin with incremental filling technique has superior physical properties compared to bulk technique. From the comparison of the two techniques, the composite resin with incremental filling technique has superior physical properties compared to the bulk technique, especially in higher conversion which causes lower shrinkage stress. This situation makes the incremental technique provide better bond strength, water resorption, color stability, and lower temperature rise. Keywords: Bulk, Composite Resin, Incremental,  Physical Properties, Restoration, Restoration Technique

Abstract

The Indonesian government is targeting children under 12 years of age to be free from caries by 2030. In 2017, ECC prevalence in children aged 2-3 years in Bukittinggi was 51.5%. This data is still very far from the target of the Indonesian government. The pattern of milk consumption and dietary habit are caries risk factors. This research aimed to analyse the relationship between breast milk consumption pattern and early childhood caries. Methods: This was a descriptive study with a cross-sectional study at Bukittinggi Integrated Healthcare Centre (Posyandu). The subjects were selected by multistage random sampling, which obtained as many as 146 pairs of mothers and children aged 2 to 5 years. The breast milk consumption pattern was observed using a mother’s questionnaire while the ECC was examined visually. Data were collected and analysed using the chi-square test with a confidence value of 95%. Six young dentists took the data at the Faculty of Dentistry Andalas University who had been calibrated before. Data were analysed using the chi-square test. Results: The prevalence of ECC in Bukittinggi was 101 (69.2%) with the def-t index mean of 3.00 ± SD 4.02 at 95% CI (3.23 - 4.54). Samples with exclusive breastfeeding 74 (50.7%) had a lower def-t index than non-exclusive (3.70 vs 4.07) with the p-value=0.678. Samples with breast milk and complementary foods was 68 (46.6%), which showed a lower def-t index than non-breast milk and complementary food (3.51 vs 4.21) with p=0.787. Conclusion: Statistically, there is no effect of the pattern of breast milk consumption on the occurrence of early childhood caries in children under the age of five years, however, the incidence of early childhood caries is lower in exclusive breastfeed-ing children compared to non-exclusive breastfeeding. Keywords: Breast milk, early childhood caries, def-t index, complementary food, prevalence.

Abstract

Teledentistry is an examination and consultation of patients to the dentist without going through face-to-face visits, but with the help of an online application. The purpose of the activity is to help and facilitate Co-ass students of the Faculty of Dentistry, Andalas University, to fulfill the requirements for oral diagnosis via online (teledentistry) during the covid 19 pandemic. The activity is carried out in the form of examination/screening of patients carried out by Co-ass students whom Hospital Precept accompanies at the Faculty of Dentistry, Andalas University (Lecturer). Activities to be carried out consist of counseling, coordinator, mentoring, and monitoring of implementation and evaluation. The results of this activity can meet the patient's need for dental and oral examinations and expand access to dental care. Dental and oral health is essential for every individual, especially for carrying out functions such as eating, speaking, aesthetics, and feeling comfortable throughout the day. The Covid-19 pandemic limits the community's social conditions, including their need to get dental and oral services from dentists. In addition, dentistry is one of the jobs most at risk of contracting Covid-19 from patients. Through teledentistry activities, a dentist takes anamnesis to patients, clinical examinations are carried out through consultation through pictures and videos, diagnosis as initial information in planning further treatment, and supportive care such as patient education.

Abstract

Lengthy patient waiting times negatively impact patient satisfaction and overall healthcare service quality. This study investigates the influence of administrative processes and staffing levels on outpatient service efficiency at a dental and oral hospital in Padang, Indonesia. A mixed-methods approach was employed, incorporating quantitative data analysis of patient waiting times and qualitative exploration of administrative workflows and staff perspectives through interviews and observations. Simulated data was generated based on existing literature to supplement the analysis where specific data points were unavailable. Inefficient administrative processes, including manual patient registration and record-keeping, were identified as major contributors to extended waiting times. Inadequate staffing levels, particularly during peak hours, further exacerbated the issue. Qualitative findings revealed staff perceptions of workload burden and the need for streamlined workflows. The study underscores the critical role of administrative processes and staffing levels in outpatient service efficiency. Recommendations include the implementation of electronic health record systems, process re-engineering, and strategic staffing adjustments to enhance patient flow and overall service quality.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Augmented reality (AR) technology provides a novel approach to oral health education. This study examines the impact of AR-based educational tools on improving children's oral health knowledge, specifically assessing whether AR can significantly enhance knowledge compared to baseline. The primary objective is to determine if AR technology can increase oral health knowledge in children. Methods: This pre-experimental study used a pre-test and post-test design with a single group of 49 children aged 7 years. The AR-based tool was developed using the ADDIE model and implemented over two weeks. The effectiveness of the tool was assessed through a standardized oral health knowledge questionnaire, and data were analyzed using paired t-tests. Results: The results showed a significant increase in children's knowledge after the intervention, with mean scores rising from 5.27 (SD = 1.36) to 8.65 (SD = 0.9) (p < 0.05). The proportion of children with good knowledge increased from 8.2% to 88% post-intervention. Conclusion: The study demonstrates that AR-based tools can significantly improve children's oral health knowledge. This suggests that AR could be an effective educational medium in promoting better oral health practices among young learners.
