Abstract

Adolescence is a period of life transition from children to adults. In this periodes there are many changes in both emotional, physical condition, interests, and behavior patterns. The changes that occur often make teenagers not ready to understand so that self-dissatisfaction occurs. The existence of self-dissatisfaction with one's physical condition causes negative feelings to arise so that one considers a non-ideal physical condition as a deficiency. This will trigger teenagers to do body shaming. If the stigma of body shaming is not immediately eradicated, it will result in teenagers being prone to mental health disorders such as anxiety and prone to stress. In addition, adolescents are also prone to obesity and cardiovascular disease due to psychological conditions experienced. By looking at these problems, community service is carried out which aims to determine body image in adolescents so that it is hoped that body shaming actions can be prevented. Community service activities were carried out at SMA N 1 Tempel, attended by 128 students from first grade of high school. Activities carried out in the form of filling out the body image scale using a g-form questionnaire and providing education on the prevention of Body Shamming to students. The results of the questionnaire showed that the body shamming that occurred in SMA N 1 Tempel adolescents was in the less category as much as 55%. With sufficient knowledge, it is hoped that adolescents will be able to have a good self-concept and be able to make efforts to prevent body shaming.

Abstract

Background: The increasing consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) has become a major public health concern due to its link with metabolic diseases, particularly Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM).  Understanding the relationship between SSB consumption and the risk and progression of T2DM, particularly in adult populations, is crucial for developing targeted interventions. This scoping review aims to summarize observational studies that investigate the association between SSB consumption and T2DM risk and progression in adult populations. Methods: This scoping review included nine studies published between 2017 and 2023. The inclusion criteria were studies that involved adult populations (≥18 years) and explored the relationship between SSB consumption and T2DM. Databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar were searched using keywords like ‘sugar-sweetened beverages,’ ‘type 2 diabetes,’ and ‘adult,’ and ‘progression.’ Results: The studies reviewed consistently showed a positive association between frequent SSB consumption and the risk of developing T2DM. Overall, the evidence supports that SSBs contribute significantly to the incidence and progression of T2DM, often through weight gain and increased insulin resistance. Conclusion: This review shows the strong association between SSBs and T2DM, urgent public health interventions are needed to regulate consumption, particularly among high-risk groups.  Future research was needed to examine the long-term impact of SSB on diabetes.

Abstract

Strengthening the capacity of health cadres is a key element in supporting the transformation of primary health services in Indonesia. This activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of Posyandu cadres in implementing Primary Service Integration (ILP) at the Sleman Health Center. The training was conducted in Nogotirto Village, Gamping, Sleman Regency, using a practice-based approach, which involved providing training materials, simulations, and evaluations before and after the training. This method is designed to improve cadres' knowledge and skills about primary service integration through hands-on experience in the field. Most of the cadres involved in the training are between 41-50 years old (64%), with a background in the housewife profession (80%), and have experience as cadres for 1-10 years (48%). This characteristic indicates that the trainees have sufficient expertise to understand the needs in the field, although they still need to strengthen the technical and managerial aspects. The training results showed an increase in the knowledge and skills of cadres by 42,1% and 32.1%, respectively. The most significant improvement was seen in the management skills of Posyandu and health services for adults and the elderly, by 35.7% each. However, challenges are still found, especially in simple technology-based recording and reporting, as well as the need to improve skills in every aspect, including Posyandu management, health services for infants and toddlers, school children and adolescents, pregnant and postpartum women, as well as adulthood and the elderly. Cadre capacity is important in improving the overall health status of the community, thereby contributing to the transformation of primary health services in Indonesia. To support the successful implementation of ILP, technical assistance is still needed so that the implementation of the program is in accordance with the guidelines that have been determined by the Ministry of Health.

Abstract

The prevalence of joint disease in pre-elderly to late elderly ages is quite high (30.3%) and is generally caused by a high purine diet. The purpose of this scoping review is to discuss the relationship between a high purine diet and the incidence of hyperuricemia in the elderly. Methods: Researchers used the scoping review method using academic journals published from 2020 to 2024. The literature was searched using Google Scholar electronic database. Researchers used the following search terms: Asam urat OR Hiperurisemia AND lansia OR elderly AND makanan tinggi purin OR high purine intake AND observasional OR observasional crossectional case control. A total of 93 studies were identified and 9 studies were included in this review. Results: Based on nine journal articles, researchers obtained information regarding the relationship between high purine diet and the incidence of hyperuricemia in the elderly showing varied results in several regions of Indonesia. Most of the journal articles obtained stated that there was an association between a high purine diet and the incidence of hyperuricemia in the elderly. Conclusions: Elderly people who consume foods high in purines can increase uric acid levels in the body so it is necessary to adjust their diet, especially limiting foods that are high in purines.

Abstract

Anemia remains a public health problem among adolescent girls in Indonesia. A 2023 national survey reported that 15.5% of adolescents aged 15–24 years experience anemia. Knowledge and compliance with iron supplementation remain low, while conventional education methods are often perceived as less engaging by adolescents. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Aoksigame Card on improving adolescents’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices in preventing anemia. A quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group design was conducted on 62 tenth-grade female students from two high schools in Yogyakarta, selected using simple random sampling. The intervention group received education using the Aoksigame Card, while the control group received PowerPoint slide education. Data on knowledge, attitudes, and practices were collected before and after the intervention using a validated and reliable questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS with a significance level of p<0.05. The intervention group showed a significant improvement in knowledge (p=0.003), but not in attitudes (p=0.276) or practices (p=0.083). Intergroup comparison showed a significant difference in knowledge (p=0.017), but not in attitudes (p=0.956) or practices (p=0.232). Aoksigame Card is effective in increasing adolescents’ knowledge of anemia.

Abstract

Background: Anemia in children is a global health problem that can affect their cognitive and physical development. Various supplementation interventions have been used to treat anemia, including iron, folic acid, vitamins, and other minerals. Although some studies have shown improvements in anemia status, challenges in adherence to treatment and side effects remain barriers. Objective: This scoping review aims to map the available scientific evidence related to interventions and supplementation in children with anemia. This study identifies the types of interventions used, the target population, and the outcomes reported in the studies. Methods: A literature search was conducted through PubMed and Google Scholar with the keywords "anemia," "intervention," "supplement," and "children." Included studies were publications from 2015 to 2024 involving children who received supplementation interventions to see the impact of supplementation on anemia, cognition, and growth in children. Data from relevant studies were collected and analyzed based on study design, type of intervention, and reported outcomes. Results: From the analysis of 10 studies, various interventions were found, including iron supplementation, combinations of iron and other micronutrients (folic acid, vitamin A, vitamin C), and food-based interventions. All interventions showed increased hemoglobin levels and improved anemia status, but adherence to treatment remains a challenge, especially in daily regimens. Conclusion: Appropriate supplementation interventions effectively reduce the prevalence of anemia in children. However, the management of side effects and the improvement of adherence are aspects that need further attention for long-term success.

Abstract

Rectosigmoid cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy are at high risk of malnutrition due to metabolic alterations and treatment-related gastrointestinal side effects. Evidence on the implementation of standardized nutritional care in primary healthcare settings remains limited. This study aims to evaluate the provision of standardized nutritional care with a diet high in energy and protein and its impact on the intake, nutritional status, and clinical condition of rectosigmoid cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. The case was a 50-year-old male with stage III rectosigmoid cancer undergoing chemotherapy, who presented with undernourished status, diarrhea, reduced appetite, dysphagia-related discomfort, and anemia. Nutritional assessment identified inadequate oral intake and increased energy and protein requirements. Standardized nutritional care was implemented using the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) framework, including an individualized high-energy, high-protein (HEHP) diet and nutrition education for the patient and family. Dietary intake was monitored over three consecutive days using 24-hour food recalls. The patient demonstrated improved tolerance to oral intake, increased protein consumption, stabilization of body weight, and no worsening of gastrointestinal symptoms during the intervention period. This case illustrates that standardized nutritional care using a high-energy, high-protein diet can support dietary intake and help maintain nutritional status in rectosigmoid cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, even in a primary healthcare setting. Early and individualized nutritional intervention may play an important role in preventing further nutritional deterioration and supporting comprehensive cancer care.

Abstract

Background: The Sleman Regency Government is committed to solving the stunting problem by implementing an integrated stunting prevention program by encouraging the participation of penta-helix. Estimating stunting prevalence accomplishment targets is crucial for measuring progress, guiding strategies, and ensuring stunting reduction success. This study aims to provide information regarding the factors that contribute to the prevalence of stunted toddlers and develop a predictive model for that prevalence. Methods: The study investigated the prevalence of stunting, wasting, and underweight in Sleman Regency using publicly accessible reports, secondary data, and reputable websites. Data was gathered through audits of stunting cases and factors from district-level program managers, and analysed through desk reviews. This research was conducted in Sleman Regency from December 2023 to February 2024. Results: The investigation found that stunting is linked to family smoking, inadequate toddler nutrition, inactive JKN, chronic energy deficiency throughout pregnancy, and low-weight, preterm births. Through rules, policies, and multisectoral multistakeholder collaboration, the Sleman Regency Government aims to reduce stunting. The interventions include maternal and child health, nutritional counselling, drinking water and sanitation, early childhood education, and pre-conception family life preparation. A model to estimate long-term stunting prevalence is needed to track trends, evaluate interventions, and support evidence-based decision-making. Stunting is vital to public health and economic benefit. Based on audit data, child nutrition trends, and prediction models, Sleman Regency should reduce stunting by 0.02% per year for local data and 0.5% per year for national data. The determinants of stunting in Sleman Regency are very diverse, including problems related to nutrition and non-nutrition. Conclusion: Stunting prevention is focused on efforts to overcome habits, improve the nutritional status of pregnant women and optimize better pregnancy outcomes. Based on the analysis, the stunting reduction target was determined based on national and local surveys of 0.5% and 0.02% per year, respectively. Keywords: Under five children; estimation model; prevalence; stunting

Abstract

Background: Balanced nutrition education is an essential effort in preventing obesity, especially in adolescents who are vulnerable to nutritional problems due to unhealthy diets and a lack of knowledge. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Android-based e-pocket books in improving the understanding of balanced nutrition among adolescents in Yogyakarta. Methods: This study employed an experimental design with control groups, utilizing pre-tests and post-tests. Conducted from February to March 2023 in a high school in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, the research established a minimum sample size of 27 students per group through the Lemeshow formula and multistage sampling. Inclusion criteria required students to have Android phones, to consent to participate, to attend the study, and to complete data collection. The treatment group received education via e-pocket-book media, while the control group used e-leaflets. Knowledge was measured at three points: before the intervention, immediately after (post-test 1), and nine days later (post-test 2). Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests with SPSS software. Results: The knowledge score of the treatment group increased from 76.3 (pre-test) to 93.8 (post-test 1) and 91.3 (post-test 2). The control group increased from 73.8 (pre-test) to 82.5 (post-test 1) and 81.3 (post-test 2). The increase in knowledge was more significant in the treatment group, showing that e-pocket-books were more effective than e-leaflets. Conclusion: Android-based e-pocket-books improve adolescents' knowledge of balanced nutrition more than e-leaflets. Digital technology in nutrition education has great potential to be applied in schools. Further research is needed to evaluate the long-term impact on nutritional behavior.
