Abstract

This research was to investigate the microstructure and mechanical properties of ternary alloys Zr-10Ti-(x)Al (x = 0, 2, 4 wt.%) through solution treatment process with temperature variations 900℃, 1000℃, and 1100℃. The results indicated that α and α' phase existed in Zr-10Ti-(x)Al alloys. The hardness of the Zr-10Ti-4Al alloys in 1100℃ treatment was significantly increased because of solution treatment process, from 382.462 HV (0% Al), 403.304 HV (2% Al), and 465.68 HV (4% Al) to 386.066 HV (0% Al), 452.244 HV (2% Al), and 494.016 HV (4% Al). The addition of Al will increase the hardness of alloy because of strengthening mechanism beside the formation of intermetallic compound, the solution treatment process will increase the percentage of β phase and generated the phase transformation into α' which increased the alloy’ mechanical properties. In conclusion, Zr-10Ti-4Al alloy will be a great potential material for dental implant biomaterial.

Abstract

Background: Maxillofacial fracture consists of several types of fractures depending on their location. Traffic accidents are the most common cause of these cases. The choice of management given in maxillofacial fractures is divided into immediate and planned delayed management, depending on the condition of the injured tissue. Purpose: To describe the clinical characteristics of maxillofacial fracture in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology Faculty of Medicine Universitas Andalas/Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital Padang, in 2020 to 2022. Method: A descriptive study with retrospective approach. The study was conducted by collecting data from the medical record section by using a total sampling technique (59 patients) from 2020 to 2022. Result: The highest cause was traffic accidents (49.2%), the most common findings were nasal bone fracture (44.1%), with operative management (82.4%). Conclusion: Maxillofacial fractures were most commonly experienced by the young age group and caused by traffic accidents, therefore driving safety and driver compliance should be more emphasized. Keywords: maxillofacial fracture, ORIF (Open Reduction Internal Fixation), septorhinoplasty, septoplasty, rhinoplasty ABSTRAK Latar belakang: Fraktur maksilofasial terdiri dari beberapa jenis fraktur tergantung lokasinya. Abstract

Background: Meningiomas are common primary brain tumors with variable clinical behavior. While most are benign, a subset exhibits aggressive characteristics and a high recurrence rate. This study aimed to investigate the association of Programmed Death-Ligand 1 (PD-L1) and Ki-67 labeling index with histopathological grade and recurrence in meningioma. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 139 cases of meningioma diagnosed between January 2020 and December 2023. PD-L1 expression was evaluated using immunohistochemistry (IHC) and scored using the combined positive score (CPS). Ki-67 labeling index was determined as the percentage of tumor cells with positive nuclear staining. The association of PD-L1 and Ki-67 with histopathological grade and recurrence was analyzed. Results: PD-L1 expression was positive in 66.7% of cases and was significantly associated with recurrence (p = 0.006). A higher Ki-67 labeling index (>4%) was observed in 68.9% of cases and was also significantly associated with recurrence (p = 0.013). No significant association was found between PD-L1 expression or Ki-67 labeling index and histopathological grade. Conclusion: PD-L1 expression and Ki-67 labeling index may serve as potential prognostic markers for predicting recurrence in meningioma. Further studies are needed to validate these findings and explore their potential therapeutic implications.

Abstract

Background: Intraoperative diagnosis by cytological and frozen section procedures is needed in some cases including peripheral nerve specimens. The results of the cytological evaluation and frozen sections can be relied upon to guide the surgeon in making intraoperative decisions. The pathologist provides information on gross and microscopic findings that correlate with the clinical, and radiological. Although the cytology and frozen section diagnosis approach has been carried out in a multidisciplinary manner, there are still limitations in the intraoperative diagnosis of peripheral nerve specimens. Limitations in this procedure can be overcome by understanding and analyzing possible errors and pitfalls during the procedure thereby increasing the accuracy of the diagnosis. Case report: Schwannoma is a nerve sheath tumor consisting of neoplastic cells with Schwann cell differentiation that generally originates from peripheral nerves in the skin and subcutaneous tissue of the head and neck or along the flexor surfaces of the extremities. More than 90% of schwannomas are solitary and sporadic lesions that can affect any age but with a peak incidence in the fourth to sixth decades of life and there is no racial or gender predisposition. Conclusion: Schwannomas often appear as asymptomatic masses or incidental findings. Intraoperative frozen section pathological diagnosis can be used in determining subsequent surgical management.
