Abstract

This study explores patterns of AI-tool utilization among Indonesian EFL students, as preliminary data for assessment-model development. Using a convenience sampling technique, this study involved 208 university students of various year levels. A questionnaire was developed based on technology acceptance model (TAM) frameworks to collect data through Google Form, covering aspects of knowledge and use of AI tools in completing tasks, frequency of AI use and friendliness levels, reasons for using AI tools, ease of using AI tools, and desire to use AI tools. The results reveal that the participants had basic knowledge of AI but a significant number of participants admitted not knowing AI tools, suggesting the need for more education and awareness about AI. Grammarly and Google Translate were the most familiar and frequently used applications. Our findings also reveal strong relationships between perceived ease of use (PEoU) and perceived usefulness (PU) and between PU and technology acceptance (TA), implying how TAM frameworks may predict willingness to use technology-assisted or AI applications and the actual utilization. As most research participants were teacher candidates, it becomes clear that integrating AI-assisted learning content and activities appears essential as their experiences in their teacher education may influence the way they teach in the future.

Abstract

Self-regulated learning (SRL) is an important skill to acquire for students because it helps students to have a better academic achievement, study skills, self-efficacy, and learning motivation in a learning process. Teachers are required to have high level of knowledge about SRL to be able to teach SRL to their students. Thus, this study was aimed to examine teachers’ knowledge of SRL. This study employed a quantitative method using survey design involving 42 EFL teachers from junior and secondary schools in two districts in Gresik Regency. A knowledge test to measure teachers’ content knowledge of SRL (SK-SRL) and pedagogical content knowledge of SRL (PCK-SRL) was administered to collect the data. The result of this study showed that EFL teachers hold a moderate level of knowledge of SRL. This means that EFL teachers understand the general concept of SRL, various types of SRL strategies such as cognitive, metacognitive, and motivation as well as emotion strategies. Moreover, teachers also understood about the three-cyclical phases of SRL which were the forethought, monitoring, and evaluation phase as well as various activities in each phase. However, they still need more insight about how to diagnose students’ SRL competence and skills, and need to explore more various ways to teach SRL to their students.

Abstract

The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has led to increased ICT usage in educational institutions. Still, senior teachers who have a significant impact on their advancement of professionalism with many years of teaching experience face several challenges in utilizing ICT in teaching and learning. Several studies found that compared to male teachers, female teachers are less proficient in using ICT devices due to several factors. Thus, this study aims to discover senior female EFL teachers' beliefs in terms of their perceptions and awareness of using ICT during their teaching and learning processes. The study included 34 senior female EFL teachers from East Java, Indonesia. A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design was used in this study. The questionnaires and one-on-one interviews showed that the use of ICT in the classroom is reported to be well appreciated by senior female EFL teachers, who also received guidance and support from their colleagues and collaborated on ICT professional development. However, they need assistance with theoretical and practical ICT abilities, solutions to internet constraints, and school-based technological infrastructures. This study recommends the government and higher education institutions implement targeted programs for senior teachers.

Abstract

This quasi-experimental study investigates the effectiveness of Nearpod, a student-response-system, on elevating student engagement in Foreign Language for Specific Purposes (FLSP) classes. Utilizing Nearpod's interactive features to deliver the materials and activities through a shareable link, the study aimed to create a dynamic and immersive learning experience. The study involved 74 students from an FLSP course, divided into control and experimental groups. The experimental group were taught using Nearpod while the control group received regular instructions. Engagement levels were measured using a self-report questionnaire based on Wang et al. (2016), encompassing four domains of student engagement. The Mann-Whitney U-Test revealed that Nearpod significantly increased overall student engagement (U = 263.500, p < .05). Notably, behavioral, emotional, and social engagement showed significant improvements, while cognitive engagement did not (U = 450.500, p > .05). This empirical results show that Nearpod significantly enhances overall student engagement and positively impacts behavioral, emotional, and social engagement in FLSP integrated classes. However, cognitive engagement remains unaffected, suggesting a need for further exploration of strategies to address this aspect.This research provides valuable insights for language instructors, highlighting the potential of technology to foster engaging and interactive learning environments.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of various intelligences, learning styles, and linguistic abilities on English language proficiency among junior high school students in a differentiated learning context. Drawing on Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences and previous research, this qualitative research aimed to investigate whether students' interests, motivation, and cognitive profiles influence their language learning outcomes. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed manually using tables. Findings reveal a significant correlation between students' interests, learning styles, linguistic intelligence, and English proficiency. While some students demonstrate exceptional performance, others exhibit diverse learning preferences and intelligence, challenging traditional notions of language acquisition. The study underscores the importance of differentiated instruction tailored to individual needs and preferences for optimizing language learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study investigates a junior high school teacher’s understanding and application of critical thinking and the English for Nusantara textbook in teaching seventh-grade students under Indonesia's liberated curriculum, which emphasizes critical thinking as a 21st-century skill. Conducted as a case study in a junior high school in Madura, Indonesia, the research involved one English language teacher. Data were collected through interviews, textbook analyses, and classroom observations. The teacher demonstrated adequate critical thinking knowledge, gained through Professional Instructor Education Training, and assessed students' skills using Bloom’s Taxonomy. The teacher actively facilitated argumentation and critical thinking in class activities. While the English for Nusantara textbook served as a reference for class topics, an analysis of Chapters 1–3 revealed a lack of critical thinking exercises. To address this, the teacher employed various strategies, such as critical questioning, brainstorming, and hands-on activities, to develop students' critical thinking. Visual aids were also used to enhance engagement and understanding. Findings indicate that the teacher’s approach promoted deep and reflective thinking among students. Despite the textbook’s shortcomings, integrating diverse methods and resources effectively developed students' ability to acquire, evaluate, and apply information to solve problems. The study underscores the importance of critical thinking in education and highlights the need for improved textbook content to support this goal.

Abstract

Asam urat adalah produk metabolisme yang normal dari hasil pencernaan protein atau dari hasil uraian purin yang seharusnya dibuang lewat urin, tinja, atau keringat. Penyakit asam urat atau arthritis gout merupakan penyakit pada sendi karena kadar asam urat yang tinggi dalam darah. Tingginya kadar asam urat karena ketidakmampuan tubuh untuk mengontrol proses kristalisasi asam urat yang menyebabkan keluhan nyeri, bengkak, rasa kesemutan. Keluhan tersebut sering dialami oleh lansia, sehingga lansia sulit melakukan aktivitas. Latihan isometrik merupakan salah satu pengobatan non farmakologis untuk membantu menurunkan kadar asam urat dalam tubuh sertadapat memperbaiki metabolism tubuh. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh latihan isometrik terhadap penurunan kadar asam urat pada lansia.Jenis penelitian ini adalah Quasy Exsperimen dengan teknik Purposive Sampling. Jumlah sampel 10 responden pada tiap kelompok kontrol dan perlakuan 1kali per minggu dalam 1 bulan. Penelitian ini menggunakan uji Wilcoxon untuk mengetahui perbedaan sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan, menggunakan uji Mann Whitney untuk membandingkan antara kelompok kontrol dan perlakukan dengan tingkat kemaknaan ?=0,05.Hasil penelitian ini pada kelompok kontrol nilai ? = 0.327, dan kelompok perlakuan nilai ? = 0.005 sedangkan nilai uji Mann-Whitney di dapatkan ?= 0.049 artinya ? ? ? maka H1 diterima, nilai Z= - 1.968 jadi berbeda secara bermakna antara kadar asam urat pada kelompok kontrol dengan kelompok perlakuan. Latihan isometrik berkontribusi terhadap penurunan kadar asam urat dalam tubuh melalui proses metabolisme sehingga asam urat keluar melalui urine.DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.3563252

Abstract

Penelitian ini  bertujuan untuk menggambarkan proses  Pengembangan harapan pada anak usia dini. Menurut Humaidah masa usia dini dikenal sebagai masa priode emas, yaitu fase  penting untuk menanamkan harapan yang dapat mendukung perkembangan fisik, kognitif, emosional, dan sosial anak. Dalam hal ini peran Orang tua, guru, dan lingkungan sekitar merupakan satu kesatuan yang yang tidak dapat dipisahkan karena mereka berkontribusi besar dalam memberikan dorongan serta ransangan untuk membangun rasa percaya diri pada anak. Menurut Ahmad Maulana dan Eva Eminia Elisa menyatakan bahwa perkembangan anak usia dini merupakan fase penting yang ditandai dengan perubahann signifikan pada fisik, kognitif, dan sosio-emosi. Dalam penelitian ini Metode yang digunakan adalah studi literatur dengan   menganalisis 20 jurnal sebagai  sumber data primer. Analisis data dengan beberapa tahapan, tahap pertama menentukan tema. Tahap kedua menyeleksi artikel jurnal yang relevan dengan tema dan sesuai dengan tenggat waktu artikel (5 tahun terakhir), tahap ketiga proses review artikel jurnal sebanyak 10 artikel, tahap keempat pengkategorisasian dan tahap kelima penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengembangan harapan dapat dilakukan melalui stimulasi lingkungan positif, penguatan interaksi sosial, dan pembiasaan pola pikir optimis. Penelitian diharapkan mampu meneliti hal yang lebih mendalam terkait tema pendekatan interaksi keluarga dengan membacakan dongeng pada anak.

Abstract

The transformation of the latest Indonesian curriculum led to inevitable schemes, including the establishment of an activator teachers’ program. It is expected that teachers of better quality are produced in support of the aims of students' learning abilities, including critical thinking. Using qualitative and quantitative methods, this study is conducted to find the profiles and practices of EFL activator teachers. It involves 37 EFL activator teachers in East Java. While questionnaires are used to find the profiles of activator teachers, semi-structured interviews and observations are conducted to reveal how best EFL activator teachers implement critical thinking in the classroom. The findings show that activator teachers in general have a strong positive perception toward critical thinking in everyday classrooms; they also have medium practices of critical thinking teaching. Further investigation reveals that activator teachers do share a great amount of awareness in critical thinking. There are 4 strategies used by the teachers in prompting critical thinking; they are questioning, project/problem-based, group work, and the use of students’ feedback or reflection. The study implies the need for strengthened professional development to bridge the gap between teachers’ awareness and actual classroom practices in promoting critical thinking.

Abstract

The managerial and supervisory abilities of the islamic school principal play an important role on improving teacher performance to realize the quality of education. The purpose of this study is to find out how much the influence of managerial and supervisory abilities of madrasah principal on the performance of islamic junior high school teachers in Manyar district. This research uses a quantitative approach with the type of correlational research. The data collection method uses two techniques, namely documents and unstructured interviews. The results of the study showed that there is a significant effect of the manegerial and supervisory abilities of islamic school principal on the performance of islamic junior high school teachers in Manyar district. It can be concluded that there is an influence between managerial and supervisory abilities of islamic school principal on the performance of islamic junior high school teachers in Manyar Gresik district Key words: Managerial Ability, Supervision,Teacher Performance Abstrak: Kemampuan manajerial dan supervisi kepala madrasah memegang peranan penting terhadap peningkatan kinerja guru untuk mewujudkan mutu pendidikan.Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui besarnya pengaruh kemampuan manajerial dan kemampuan supervisi kepala madrasah terhadap kinerja guru madrasah tsanawiyah di kecamatan Manyar. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif, dengan jenis penelitian korelasional. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan dua teknik yaitu dokumen dan wawancara tidak terstruktur. Hasil penelitian terdapat pengaruh signifikan kemampuan manajerial dan supervisi kepala madrasah terhadap kinerja guru madrasah tsanawiyah di kecamatan Manyar. Hal ini dapat disimpulkan ada pengaruh antara kemampuan manajerial dan supervisi kepala madrasah terhadap kinerja guru madrasah tsanawiyah di kecamatan Manyar Gresik.   Kata kunci: Kemampuan Manajerial, Supervisi, Kinerja Guru.
