Abstract

[English]: M99 Beverage is one of the home industries (IRT) in Tambakyudan village, Pasuruan City that produces dairy products, one of which is 'Gully' (Yoghurt Jelly). During the Covid-19 pandemic, M99 Beverage had to halt any operations after trying to operate in the first three months of Covid-19. The problems faced by M99 Beverage are related to production, packaging, and product marketing efforts. Gully production was not optimal because it is still produced manually and depends on room temperature. Other problems are related to the non-optimal design of product packaging and marketing strategies, which are still manual (only relies on word-of-mouth marketing). The purpose of this community program is to increase the production and sales activities of M99 Beverage as a partner through procurement of production equipment, product marketing, and improvement of product labels or packaging designs. The methods used include observation, problem identification, problem formulation, implementation of problem solution actions, and evaluation of the outputs. The results of this program show that the partners can innovate in adding new product variants, namely ice wax, ice cream, and Gully Squeeze. After this program, partners also succeeded in designing labels that were more representative and reflect good branding. They have also succeeded in creating product promotion media based on digital platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and landing pages. With the solution steps carried out through this program, partners' production and sales have increased from 40 bottles/week in June 2021, to 60 bottles/week in July 2021. This shows that this program is effective in increasing household industrial production activities, which operates in the dairy sector. Abstract

Studies have shown contradictory results regarding the influence of gender on listening strategies and the correlation between listening strategies and listening proficiency. Some research has found a correlation between students' listening strategies and their listening proficiency, while others have not. This study aims to investigate whether there are gender differences in the listening strategies employed by English Language Education (ELE) students and whether there is a correlation between these strategies and listening proficiency. A quantitative correlational design was used, involving 94 ELE students from the 2021 cohort at a public university in East Java. An online questionnaire with 24 items from the Listening Strategies Questionnaire (LSQ) was utilized to assess listening strategies, while scores from the UKBIng (English Language Proficiency Test) represented students' listening proficiency. The findings indicate no significant gender differences in the listening strategies employed, with a significance value greater than 0.05 and cognitive strategies being the most commonly used by both male and female students. However, a significant correlation was found between listening strategies and listening proficiency, with a correlation coefficient of 0.311. The study suggests enhancing the teaching and learning process by incorporating additional strategies beyond cognitive strategies to improve listening skills.

Abstract

Implementing digital game-based language learning in a developing country faces many challenges due to the teachers’ and students’ digital competence and technological limitations. Furthermore, most of the research in implementing digital game-based language learning is conducted in developed countries. Therefore, this current research focuses on the studies of the implementation of digital game-based language learning conducted in developing countries to see whether some improvements can be made in this area. The results show that implementing existing games and developing new games are the two major distinctions in applying digital game-based language learning. On one hand, while using existing games is easier and more convenient, most educational games are in the form of quizzes with limited gameplay, and non-educational games are more fun but can cause addiction and are not entirely suitable for learning. On the other hand, the games developed specifically for learning English are great, but they are primarily simple games designed to achieve beginner goals such as vocabulary and reading skills for young learners. Therefore, the need for digital English language learning games designed for more complex objectives for various age groups with good visuals and gameplay is still available, and much future research should be done in this area.

Abstract

Evidence has shown that social and emotional learning (SEL) improves students' behavior, attitudes, peer relationships, and academic outcomes. However, teachers have challenges in promoting SEL due to insufficient professional development and pedagogical strategies. Cooperative learning, a pedagogy promoting student-centered learning, has been suggested to help teachers foster students' SEL. However, little research has been conducted to investigate cooperative learning alignment with SEL. Thus, this current study explores teachers' perspectives on implementing cooperative learning to promote students' SEL. Seven elementary school teachers implementing cooperative learning and SEL in their classrooms joined the study. A qualitative interpretative case study design was used. Teacher interviews as primary data, and field notes, teachers' artefacts, lesson plans, and teaching videos were collected. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data from the teacher interviews and field notes. Four themes were generated: group roles, exploring potentials and weaknesses, meaningful interactions, and consensus decision-making. The findings suggest that cooperative learning through clear group roles promotes elementary school students' self-awareness and social awareness, meaningful interactions, and consensus decision-making.

Abstract

The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has led to increased ICT usage in educational institutions. Still, senior teachers who have a significant impact on their advancement of professionalism with many years of teaching experience face several challenges in utilizing ICT in teaching and learning. Several studies found that compared to male teachers, female teachers are less proficient in using ICT devices due to several factors. Thus, this study aims to discover senior female EFL teachers' beliefs in terms of their perceptions and awareness of using ICT during their teaching and learning processes. The study included 34 senior female EFL teachers from East Java, Indonesia. A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design was used in this study. The questionnaires and one-on-one interviews showed that the use of ICT in the classroom is reported to be well appreciated by senior female EFL teachers, who also received guidance and support from their colleagues and collaborated on ICT professional development. However, they need assistance with theoretical and practical ICT abilities, solutions to internet constraints, and school-based technological infrastructures. This study recommends the government and higher education institutions implement targeted programs for senior teachers.
