Abstract

Research on the Identification of Stroke with MRI Imagery Using the Learning Vector Quantization (LVQ) Method Based on Texture Features has been carried out. This study aims to determine the program's best parameters and the highest accuracy level of the stroke identification program. This research was conducted at Haji Sukolilo Hospital - Surabaya by obtaining 57 images of stroke patients and 15 images of regular patients. The study used the intelligence of stroke, tumor, and standard images to determine each category's image characteristics. After knowing the differences in each class, the next process is digital image processing, followed by feature extraction used is the Gray-Level Co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) with four parameters: contrast, correlation, diversity, and homogeneity. These four parameters are the best input parameters with an intelligence rate of 0.100 with a decrease in intelligence rate of 0.100, so the best accuracy value for training is 74.97%, and test data is 78.60%. Regarding the program's ability to correctly identify 11 data from 14 data tested, the program is feasible to be used as a second opinion.

Abstract

Low Back Pain (LBP) is a common musculoskeletal complaint among the elderly, primarily due to static posture or poor ergonomics. At the primary care level, such as community health centers (puskesmas), LBP management often faces challenges, including limited equipment and low understanding among healthcare workers regarding electrical therapy technologies. This community service activity aimed to enhance the capacity of basic physiotherapy services in primary care facilities by conducting technological training and providing innovative electrostimulator devices based on magnetic electrodes. The implementation methods included education on the basic principles of body electricity and the device’s functionality, hands-on workshops for participants on device usage and electrode placement, and evaluation through pre-tests and post-tests. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in participants’ understanding of the device’s working principles and operational procedures. The response to the device’s use was highly positive, and the electrostimulator has begun to be integrated into basic physiotherapy services at Puskesmas Teja. This activity proves that collaboration between applied education and technological innovation can strengthen the capacity of primary care services to manage LBP effectively and safely, particularly in the elderly population. Abstract

Background: Effective post-tooth extraction bleeding management and the alleviation of patient discomfort hinge upon the careful choice and judicious application of suitable hemostatic agents. Purpose: In this study, we developed a biodegradable, porous hemostatic sponge composed of gelatin (GE) and chitosan (CS), enhanced by the incorporation of pomegranate peel extract (PE), which was designed for use in dental applications, with a focus on antibacterial properties and infection prevention. Methods: The sponge was synthesized using an environmentally friendly (green) foaming approach without a foaming agent and was fabricated by freeze-drying. The efficiency of the hemostatic sponge was evaluated using various tests, including structural analysis, mechanical strength, water absorption capacity, hydrophilicity, blood clotting time (BCT), in vitro antibacterial effectiveness, and biodegradability. Results: The calcium chloride–crosslinked CS-GE and PE-immersed (CS-GE-PE) sponges exhibited adequate tensile strengths, with CS-GE-PE at 0.776 ± 0.025 MPa. The CS-GE-PE sponge showed significant water absorption (927.1% ± 37.55%). Hydrophilicity was evident (contact angle: 45°) and decreased slightly with the addition of PE. The BCT was shorter for the CS-GE sponge (161 ± 9.644 s), and both sponges exhibited minimal hemolysis, indicating biocompatibility. The CS-GE-PE sponge exhibited slightly enhanced antibacterial properties. Conclusion: This study has successfully developed a composite sponge consisting of CS, GE, and PE that exhibits a balanced level of biodegradability, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and blood absorption properties that reduce clotting time. This innovative material has great potential for a wide range of clinical applications in dental procedures and wound care.
