Abstract

In the history of Islamic civilization, waqf has been a pillar of the glory of Islam. The function of waqf is as a provider of public facilities and social facilities that support the life of the Muslim community, such as mosques, squares, Islamic schools, cemeteries and public roads. The development of waqf in Indonesia can have an influence on fiscal policy, namely through cash waqf. Even though Indonesia has a fairly large waqf potential, Indonesia has not been able to manage its waqf properly. Therefore, studies related to the development of waqf in Indonesia are still an interesting study for both scientists and practitioners. The purpose of this article is to review the development of waqf in Indonesia. The approach used in this paper is descriptive qualitative. The author finds the development of waqf in Indonesia is very dynamic. It can be seen from the existing phenomena, the dynamics of the waqf fatwa and the products being donated are increasingly diverse. At first, waqf only wallowed in fixed assets such as land, schools, Islamic boarding schools, and buildings that had a static nature. Beginning with the 2004 waqf law, waqf objects were transformed into cash waqf which were more practical and productive. Followed by the establishment of BWI in the same year by the Government led to an increase in the administrative management of waqf.

Abstract

Literacy at higher education institutions in Indonesia is at a low level where BPS 2018 data states that of the total Indonesian population aged 15 years and over who participated in higher education at 18.59% of the pure enrollment rate at the level of education in Indonesia. That means that Indonesians who continue their education to a higher level are lower than those who go straight to work after graduating from high school. The low level of literacy in general, is in line with the low economic literacy and Islamic economics, especially at Islamic higher education institutions. This is proven by the low knowledge of students about financial literacy that has an impact on individual financial management. Based on the background of the problem, the significance of Islamic economic literacy at universities in Indonesia needs to be studied and researched both theoretically and practically. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to describe the significance of literacy in higher education institutions in Indonesia. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with a literature approach used to study theories related to literacy so that it can emerge as to the significance of Islamic economic literacy in universities. The results of this study found that economic literacy is absolute necessity so students can compete globally and even become world-class inventors. But economic literacy alone is not enough, there needs to be values that keep economic activity on track in accordance with religious norms. Therefore, the literacy of Islamic economics in all aspects is an urgency that needs to be considered by individuals and educational institutions to be able to encourage people to help each other in economic independence with students as literacy agents.

The results of this study indicate an increase in the number of sharia financial institutions, enthusiasts of the Islamic economics major after market demand and special attention from the government with its various incentive policies, but there is a decline in student career choices in the sharia finance industry. The conclusion of this study shows that the decline in student career choices in the sharia finance industry is caused by many factors. In order to provide solutions to the above problems, efforts to improve several designs or learning models on campus need to be improved and enhanced. The most dominant learning model with a percentage of 83.5% is the integration model of religious and general sciences. Next followed by the supervisory teacher motivation intensity model with a percentage of 86.4%.
