Abstract

This study aims to analyze the addition of Stern flap to the performance of fisheries surveillance patrol vessels using Computional Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Stern flap is an additional component on the hull installed at the stern of the ship and serves to reduce the resistance that occurs on the ship. The design or simulation used to compile this research is a literature study, with the Computational Fluid Dynamics method using ANSYS Workbench for Student 2023 R2 software simulation. This study discusses the analysis, simulation, and research results related to hydrostatic and aerodynamic resistance on patrol boat models with and without the use of stern flaps at speed variations from 10 knots to 25 knots. The results show that the use of stern flaps increases hydrostatic resistance at low speeds, but can reduce aerodynamic resistance at high speeds. The comparison shows a significant increase in hydrostatic resistance at low speed with the highest value at 10 knots of 54%, while a decrease in aerodynamic resistance occurs at high speed, especially at 25 knots with a decrease of 23%. These results provide important insights in patrol boat design for performance optimization at various operational speeds.

Abstract

The escalating problem of plastic waste has become a serious environmental concern, particularly in coastal areas such as Puger District, Jember Regency. This community service program aimed to implement a Zero Waste movement through household waste sorting as a fundamental step in community-based waste management. The methods applied included awareness campaigns and waste-sorting training and The results demonstrated a significant increase in public awareness and participation in waste sorting, as well as waste weighing to quantify the amount and types of household waste generated before and after the intervention. Moreover, there was a notable rise in family involvement in household waste management. This initiative proves that educational and participatory approaches can effectively drive behavioral change toward a low-waste lifestyle. The household-based Zero Waste movement offers a promising model for sustainable environmental empowerment in coastal communities.Keywords: zero waste, plastic waste, waste sorting, household, community empowerment, Puger-Jember

Abstract

The Maritime Santri School (SENTRIMAR) is a pesantren-based environmental education model designed to enhance students’ literacy and awareness of sustainable maritime issues. Implemented at Al-Anwari Superior Islamic Junior High School in Banyuwangi, the program leverages its proximity to Santen Island’s coastline as a natural laboratory for experiential learning. Core activities included environmental socialization, mangrove and sea pandanus planting, beach clean-up, and turtle hatchling release, conducted over five months with participatory methods and intensive mentoring. Program evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test assessments to measure students’ understanding of maritime environmental concepts. The average pre-test score was 56, which significantly increased to 86 in the post-test. This improvement demonstrates the effectiveness of community-based and hands-on educational approaches in fostering ecological awareness among students. SENTRIMAR not only reinforces pesantren values such as discipline and responsibility but also equips participants with relevant conservation knowledge and skills to address contemporary environmental challenges.

Abstract

Kegiatan sosialisasi pentingnya pendidikan lingkungan maritim dilaksanakan di Madrasah Aliyah (MA) Unggulan Al-Anwari, Desa Kertosari, Banyuwangi. Sosialisasi ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman santri tentang pentingnya menjaga ekosistem pesisir melalui penyediaan materi pembelajaran yang terstruktur. Kegiatan ini merupakan salah satu jalan yang dapat membantu memberikan solusi dari masalah yang ada, dimana program lifeskill kemaritiman yang masih dalam tahap awal pengembangan, belum terintegrasi secara sistematis dalam kurikulum utama, serta keterbatasan sarana penunjang seperti laboratorium IPA sehingga pengalaman belajar santri belum optimal. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini yaitu penyusunan dan pemberian materi untuk pembelajaran kelas, diskusi, serta pemberian booklet panduan observasi. Hasil dari kegiatan menunjukkan hasil bahwa santri dapat memahami konsep dasar dari ekosistem laut , dampak dari pencemaran, dan strategi konservsai sederhana yang dapat dilakukan secara berkelanjutan. Melalui kegiatan sosialisasi ini, diharapkan para santri dapat menjadi agen perubahan yang peduli terhadap lingkungan pesisir. Selain itu, kegiatan ini akan memperkuat sifat pendidikan maritim berbasis pesantren.

Abstract

this research to identify fouling organism types that can impact the sustainability of the Lestari marine region. In efforts to preserve the environment and support water resource management, the study aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of the dominant fouling organisms in this area and their potential impacts. Through this identification, it is hoped that suitable prevention and mitigation strategies can be developed to maintain the balance of the coastal ecosystem. The method used is sampling in the form of pictures and direct descriptive exploration, while identification of attached biota and mangrove types is carried out using descriptive information. The research results showed that the dominant biota came from bivalves with the type Saccostrea cucullata from the genus Ostreidae. Mangrove species are growing naturally or through replanting efforts in Mayangan Village, Gumukmas District, Jember Regency

Abstract

Kecelakaan kapal menjadi salah satu permasalahan yang serius dalam sistem transportasi laut, terutama di Indonesia sebagai negara kepulauan yang mengandalkan jalur perairan untuk pergerakan barang dan penumpang. Salah satu kawasan dengan tingkat lalu lintas pelayaran yang padat adalah Selat Bali, yang setiap hari dilalui berbagai jenis kapal, termasuk kapal Ferry tipe Roll-on Roll-off (Ro-Ro). Tingginya intensitas pelayaran di jalur ini turut disertai dengan meningkatnya potensi kecelakaan, seperti yang terjadi pada KMP Rafelia II tahun 2016 dan KMP Yunicee tahun 2021. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kronologi serta faktor penyebab utama kecelakaan kapal Ferry Ro-Ro di Selat Bali menggunakan pendekatan teknis dengan metode Events and Causal Factor Analysis (ECFA) dan Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), serta menyusun rekomendasi pencegahan berdasarkan hierarki pengendalian risiko. Metode ECFA digunakan untuk menelusuri urutan peristiwa dan mengidentifikasi kategori penyebab, dimana ditemukan bahwa faktor kesiapan operasional merupakan penyumbang tertinggi, khususnya dalam aspek prosedur, peralatan, dan kesalahan awak kapal. Selanjutnya, melalui analisis FTA, diperoleh 7 intermediate event dan 11 basic event yang mengarah pada peristiwa tenggelamnya kapal, seperti ketidaktepatan data muatan, modifikasi struktur kapal yang tidak sesuai standar, serta kurangnya penerapan pengawasan dan prosedur pengikatan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, disusun rekomendasi melalui kombinasi pendekatan teknis berupa penguatan sistem desain dan pemantauan kapal, serta pendekatan administratif melalui pelatihan awak kapal, penerapan SOP secara konsisten, dan pengawasan muatan secara menyeluruh. Strategi ini diharapkan dapat memperkuat sistem keselamatan pelayaran dan mencegah terulangnya kecelakaan serupa di wilayah perairan padat seperti Selat Bali.

Abstract

Banyuwangi, with its extensive coastal area and long shoreline, possesses highly important yet vulnerable coastal ecosystems, particularly due to decreasing mangrove cover, increasing plastic waste, and the declining population of sea turtles. Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), as character-based educational institutions, have great potential to instill environmental awareness in younger generations. Therefore, contextual learning activities that directly engage students in coastal conservation efforts are needed. The field practice program at MA Unggulan Al-Anwari Banyuwangi was implemented as an effort to enhance students’ understanding and awareness of maritime issues and coastal conservation. The implementation method consisted of preparation, execution, and evaluation stages, involving 30 students in a series of activities including the planting of 60 mangrove seedlings and 40 sea pandan seedlings, a beach clean-up, and the release of 50 sea turtle hatchlings in the coastal area of Santen Island. The results showed that students not only gained contextual learning experiences, but were also directly involved in real actions to protect coastal ecosystems. There was an 11% increase in understanding, obtained from comparing pre-test and post-test scores. One-month post-planting monitoring showed that the seedlings remained in good condition, although height growth had not yet been significant. The average height increase of mangroves was 4.3 cm, while sea pandan showed an average increase of 3 cm within one month after planting. In addition, students consistently filled out the booklet as a recording instrument, reflecting the development of environmentally conscious habits. This program has proven effective as a pesantren-based environmental education medium while supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4, SDG 13, and SDG 14.
