Abstract

Unlike English that divides its conditional sentences into open and hypothetical types, there is no division of conditional sentence types in Indonesian. Hence, translating conditional sentences from Indonesian to English is challenging. The purpose of this study was to determine the equivalence of meaning and structure of the conditional sentences in the source language (Indonesian) and the target language (English) in Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s novel, Gadis Pantai, and its English translation. As this novel is a literary work, the complexity of the structure of the conditional sentence in this novel is very interesting to study. The method used in this study is comparative descriptive which was employed to provide clear pictures of the discussed issues. The findings of the study show that in translating the conditional sentence from Bahasa Indonesia into English in the novels, the translator has made some adjustments both in the sentence structure and meaning due to thesignificant differences of the social-cultural aspect between the source and the target language

Abstract

Hasil survei frontier group 2021 menunjukkan bahwa PT.Pos Indonesia tidak masuk dalam 3 top brand. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa daya saing PT.Pos Indonesia masih rendah. Hasil prasurvei menunjukkan bahwa perilaku inovatif karyawan masih rendah. Oleh karena itu, tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengungkap kondisi iklim organisasi, motivasi berprestasi dan perilaku inovatif, serta seberapa besar pengaruh iklim organisasi dan motivasi berprestasi terhadap perilaku inovatif. Metode peneltian yang digunakan metode survei dengan pendekatan deskriptif – verifikatif, alat analisis; koefisien korelasi, regresi berganda, koefisien determinasi, uji F dan uji t. Hasil penelitian: iklim organisasi dan motivasi berprestasi berpengauh signifikan terhadap perilaku inovatif. Temukan lain: 1) masih rendahnya kemandirian karayawan dalam mengambil keputusan, 2) karyawan merasa adanya hambatan komunikasi antara atasan – bawahan, 3) rendahnya pertimbangan karyawan terhadap risiko kerja, 4) masih rendahya keyakian karyawan bahwa idenya mampu meningkatkan nilai tambah dari inovasi.

Abstract

Akun komunitas Instagram @1000_guru_bdg merupakan inspirasi bagi pendidikan pedalaman dan pembatasan negeri di Indonesia.Akun @1000_guru_bdg dikatakan berbeda karena akun ini berisi tentang kegiatan mengajar sambil berjalan-jalan yang dilihat dengan adanya salah satu aksi kegiatan sosial komunitas ini, yaitu “Traveling & Teaching”.Pada kegiatan “Traveling & Teaching”, komunitas ini mengajak volunteers (relawan) untuk bergabung, dimana volunteers dikenakan biaya yang dapat dikatakan cukup mahal dan menyasar anak muda.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa tinggi efektivitas kegiatan “Traveling & Teaching” dalam pemenuhan kebutuhan informasi akun komunitas Instagram @1000_guru_bdg,dengan menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitatif deskriptif dan paradigma positivisme. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah followers akun komunitas Instagram @1000_guru_bdg dan sampel yang diambilpeneliti sebanyak 100 responden dengan menggunakan teknik analisis data, yaitu analisis deskriptif, uji normalitas, analisis koefisien determinasi, dan uji hipotesis.Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah (1) persentase efektivitas kegiatan “Traveling & Teaching” tergolong tinggi dengan kategori sudah efektif, (2) persentase kebutuhan informasi aktivitas “Traveling & Teaching” tergolong  tinggi dengan kategori sudah efektif,dan (3) persentase efektivitas kegiatan “Traveling & Teaching” pada akun komunitas Instagram @1000_guru_bdg berpengaruh signifikan dalam pemenuhan kebutuhan informasi followers dengan persentase tinggi. Hal ini dapat menunjukkan bahwa efektivitas pada akun komunitas Instagram @1000_guru_bdg sudah efektif terhadap pemenuhan kebutuhan informasi followers.

Abstract

In a family, power relations can be seen in a father-child relationship, where the father has the authority to control the life of the child and the child must approve the father's decision. Not only the father, however, the son might also have different objective that he wants to achieve. Here both parties will usually try to keep pursuing their own objectives. In other words, both parties will look for strategies of how to win their objective in the power relation by acting certain ways. Hence, strategy can be used as the means to obtain victory (Foucault, 2002). The purpose of this paper is to analyze power relations that occurred in a family in a fictional work, namely Family Matters novel by Rohinton Mistry, particularly between Nariman Vakeel and his father, Marzi Vakeel. Nariman’s objective is to acquire his father’s approval for his desire to marry his girlfriend, Lucy Braganza, who is a Catholic. This is the opposite of Marzi’s belief, that his family should marry a Parsi. Power relations and strategies used between Nariman and his father were examined using the theory of power relations from Michel Foucault. The findings show that each character implements different strategies in imposing power and confronting each other. As for Nariman, his strategies include persuading his father, and when this does not work, he started to show a clear insubordination every time. On the other hand, Marzi’s strategies include writing a letter to newspaper to let other people know his opposition to interfaith marriage, objecting Lucy’s presents in his house by rejecting Nariman’s suggestion to invite Lucy over for dinner, and being patience in confronting Nariman’s insubordination for eleven years. During these years, Marzi never utilized violence. In the end, Marzi succeeded in achieving his objective to make Nariman marry a Parsi woman when Nariman was finally tired of confronting his father, and let his father choose a Parsi woman. Nariman ended up having an arranged marriage.Keywords: Family, Foucault, power relation, strategies

Abstract

In recent years, foreign branding strategy are used by many business people from Indonesia whereas the products are produced in Indonesia. This strategy has purpose to affect dimensions of brand image and brand equity. The purpose of this study is to see is there any effects and how big foreign branding effects on brand image of Puyo Silky Dessert in Bandung. This research will use descriptive and quantitative methods with descriptive analysis and simple linear regression analysis. In this study, the primary data obtained using questionnaires and using non probability sampling technique with total sample of 270 respondent who knows about the brand both consumers or prospective consumers. The final result shows that foreign branding that used by Puyo Silky Dessert has 51% significant effect on brand image.

Abstract

Abstrak Manusia sebagai makhluk sosial senantiasa ingin berhubungan dengan manusia lainnya. Ia ingin mengetahui lingkungannya bahkan ingin mengetahui apa yang terjadi dalam dirinya. Rasa ingin tahu ini memaksa manusia perlu untuk melakukan komunikasi (Rezi, 2018:17). Munculnya pandemi COVID-19 mengharuskan masyarakat untuk menggunakan masker saat berada ditempat umum. Berdasarkan observasi yang dilakukan, peneliti melihat adanya hambatan komunikasi verbal yang terjadi antara petugas pelayanan dengan pasien. Oleh karena itu, peneliti tertarik untuk mengkaji lebih dalam bagaimana hambatan komunikasi verbal di RS Mata, NTB. Metode penelitian yang peneliti gunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah jenis metode kualitatif. Adapun untuk pendekatan yang digunakan adalah pendekatan fenomenologi. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik wawancara, observasi, dan studi dokumentasi. Informan dalam penelitian ini terbagi atas informan utama dan informan pendukung. Informan utama berjumlah 9 (sembilan) orang dan informan pendukung berjumlah 2 (dua) orang. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik analisis data model Colaizzi Hamzah. A (2018:97. Dari penelitian yang dilakukan, peneliti menemukan adanya hambatan komunikasi verbal pada saat pandemi di RS Mata, NTB. Adapun hambatan-hambatan tersebut adalah hambatan semantik, psikologis, lingkungan, dan waktu. Sedangkan ditinjau dari hambatan teknis, komunikasi verbal dapat berjalan dengan baik. Kata Kunci: Komunikasi Verbal, Hambatan Komunikasi, Hambatan Komunikasi Verbal, Pandemi COVID-19.

Abstract

Mental processes are process of sensing and are realized by verbs of cognition, affection, perception, and volition. Those types of verbs are transitive verbs, which mean they need object. This means that there is someone who senses (Senser) and there is something that is sensed (Phenomenon). There are three types of phenomenon, Phenomenon of Thing, Phenomenon of Act and Phenomenon of Fact. These two participants—Senser and Phenomenon—always exist in the processes, whether explicitly or implicitly. However, some clauses that are mental processes do not include one of the participants, eitherSenser or Phenomenon. There is even some data that do not include both participants. Thus, the aim of this paper is to probe implicit participants that might exist in mental processes, using content analysis as a method. The result, Implicit Participants, namely Implicit Senser and Implicit Phenomenon, can be retrieved from sentence that comes before the mental processes. The mental processes were then paraphrased and deconstructed to form a complete mental processes that include both participants, Senser and Phenomenon.Keywords: Mental process, Senser, Phenomenon, implicit

Abstract

Social media helps to perform communication in different ways, on of them as a political instrument to shape public’s opinion and also a media for parties  to interact. This research uses multimodal/social semiotics by Kress and Van Leeuwen for visual mode. The top three pictures before and after 2019 election with most likess on instagram account @sandiuno are used as research data. This research used metafunctions from visual mode which consist of representational, interpersonal, and textual. Caption holds an important role in a post, therefore it is analysed using identification analysis. Researcher also did communication style analysis from Tubbs & Moss to understand which style is used by Sandiaga Uno in social media. The result shows that Sandiaga Uno, through instagram account @sandiuno, has the same communication style before and after the 2019 election, which is the controlling style. He also has the democratic type of leadership.Keywords: Social Media, Communication Style, Multimodal, Visual Metafunction ABSTRAKMedia sosial sebagai salah satu wadah untuk melakukan komunikasi dengan cara yang berbeda, salah satunya sebagai instrumen politik, bisa untuk membentuk opini publik, maupun menjadi media interaksi dalam partai maupun antar politisi dan elemennya seperti instagram. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis multimodal / semiotika sosial dari Kress dan Van Leeuwen untuk mode visual. Tiga foto sebelum dan sesudah Pemilihan Presiden dan Wakil Presiden 2019 dengan likes terbanyak pada akun instagram @sandiuno yang menjadi data penelitian ini. Alat bedah yang digunakan yaitu metafungsi mode visual yang terdiri dari representational, interpersonal, dan textual. Caption foto menjadi pendukung yang penting dalam suatu unggahan sehingga caption foto di analisis menggunakan analisis identifikasi. Setelah itu peneliti melakukan analisis gaya komunikasi Tubbs & Moss untuk memahami gaya komunikasi apa yang digunakan oleh Sandiaga Uno di media sosial. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Sandiaga Uno melalui akun instagram @sandiuno ditemukan bahwa ia memiliki gaya komunikasi yang sama ketika sebelum dan sesudah Pemilihan Presiden dan Wakil Presiden 2019 yaitu menggunakan gaya komunikasi The Controlling Style. Lalu, jika dilihat dari tipe kepemimpinan yang sesuai dengan dirinya adalah tipe kepemimpinan yang Demokratis.Kata Kunci: Media Sosial, Gaya Komunikasi, Multimodal, Metafungsi Visual

Abstract

This research aims to identify the variation of Phenomenon and Circumstance in mental processes. Data was taken from two literary works, and were analyzed using theories of Systemic Functional Linguistics by Halliday (1985), Thomas Bloor and Meriel Bloor (1995), and Egginns (2000). The analysis was conducted using content analysis method by sorting mental processes that contain two clauses where the second clause was projected by the first clause. Data was presented by identifying elements in mental processes containing Phenomenon and Circumstance. The main components of mental process include Participant, Process, and Phenomenon, with Circumstance as an optional component, meaning it is not an obligatory component in the processes. Results show that there are two variations of phenomenon that can project other clauses complemented by many types of Circumstance. The first is the phenomenon of Fact embedded with Circumstance of Location, Extent, Manner, and Matter. The second is the Phenomenon of Thought with Circumstance of Extent, Location, Manner, Cause and Role. The most frequent Circumstance that can be found includes Circumstance of Manner, followed by Circumstance of Extent.

Abstract

Literary works can be read for pleasure reading because they can be a source of entertainment that contains interesting stories or plots. On the other hand, we can also find interesting situation or condition that happens to the characters in a novel, for example power relation. This study aims to examine the power relationship that occurs between two characters named Gustad Nobel dan Ghulam Mohamed in a novel by Rohinton Mistry entitled Such a LongJourney (Mistry, 1991) utilizing power relation theory nu Foucault (2002).
