Abstract

The prevalence of cancer in West Sumatra Province is around 2.4 per 1000 population, higher than the national prevalence of around 1.7 per 1000 population and really requires the development of appropriate prevention and control programs for cancer, especially in West Sumatra. One of the solutions provided by the Cancer Foundation in Padang City to help overcome the pain of children suffering from cancer is the COMPACT (Communication on Palliative Care Treatment) application. This activity is carried out between June and June. September 2024 in around 20 children with cancer. The activity began with creating the COMPACT application, providing socialization on the application regarding self-management of cancer patients in the form of communication in the form of audio-visual hypnocommunication therapy, guided imagery and murrotal Al-Quran to evaluating the self-management of cancer patients. The evaluation results show that there is a decrease in pain intensity before and after being given pain management intervention through the COMPACT application, namely that there is a decrease in the average pain before and after with an average difference of 2.50-2.00 and there is an increase in self-management so it can be concluded that the use of the application COMPACT can be an option for self-management for cancer patients both at home and in hospitalization. It is hoped that this application will be useful for increasing public knowledge in self-management due to cancer at home.

Abstract

Many cases of disease in healthcare workers are suspected to be related to environmental conditions, but the relationship between these two factors has not been clearly described. This study conducted a literature review regarding the influence of environmental conditions on occupational diseases in healthcare workers. Relevant articles were searched through electronic databases such as PubMed, ProQuest, Google Scholar, and Springer, with publications spanning the last 5 years. The search used the English-language keywords: "Hospital Environmental Hygiene, Occupational Health, and Tuberculosis". The inclusion criteria for articles were: (1) full access available, (2) English language, (3) type of research and observation, and (4) primary focus on hospital room temperature and occupational health of healthcare workers. The selection process and presentation of results followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) scheme. Results: Of the 1033 articles found, 8 research articles met the requirements and were in accordance with the research objectives for analysis. Conclusion: Work environment conditions play an important role in the emergence of tuberculosis (TB) in healthcare workers. Strengthening environmental controls and organizational support are crucial to protecting healthcare workers from occupational TB risks and ensuring a safer healthcare system. Keywords: Hospital Environmental Hygiene, Healthcare Worker Occupational Health, and Tuberculosis (TB).

Abstract

Background: Chronic pain is a common and distressing experience for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis, yet its complexity and management remain insufficiently explored. Understanding how patients perceive and manage this pain is crucial for developing holistic nursing interventions. Aim: To explore the lived experiences of chronic pain management among patients receiving long-term hemodialysis. Method: A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, using in-depth semi-structured interviews with a purposive sample of hemodialysis patients. Data were analyzed thematically to identify core patterns and meanings. Results: Three themes emerged: (1) perceived meaning and impact of pain during hemodialysis, reflecting patients’ physical discomfort, emotional distress, and disruption of daily life; (2) patterns and characteristics of pain, described as fluctuating in intensity, duration, and location throughout the hemodialysis process; and (3) complementary and supportive strategies for pain management, including spiritual practices, relaxation, distraction techniques, and reliance on family support. The findings underscore that pain during hemodialysis is not only a physical phenomenon but also a psychosocial and spiritual challenge. Nurses play a pivotal role in recognizing patients’ multidimensional pain experiences and in integrating complementary approaches alongside conventional care. Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of patient-centered, culturally sensitive strategies to enhance pain management and quality of life in ESRD care. It is recommended that future nursing practice and policies incorporate complementary therapies and patient education programs to strengthen pain management strategies in hemodialysis units.
