Abstract

The competence to analyze students' language is essential and needs to be improved from year to year. So far, in the syntax course, students have only been trained to analyze functions, categories, and semantic roles. The analysis of transitivity has yet to be provided because the language analysis using the Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) approach is more complex compared to structural-semantic analysis (functions, categories, and semantic roles). Therefore, this community service aims to introduce the transitivity system to Foreign Language Department students at the Faculty of Language and Arts, Semarang State University, and Indonesian Language Teaching Department students at IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon in short narrative texts. Thus, the effort to improve students' ability to analyze narrative texts with the SFL approach is well-targeted and occurs at the right time, which is before they take Discourse Analysis courses. This community service activity was conducted over two days. On day 1, the team provided a general workshop on the topic, explaining that language in SFL theory can perform three metafunctions: the ideational function, interpersonal function, and textual function. On day 2, the community service students were guided to analyze the seven transitivity elements in narrative texts step by step. The result of this community service is that, on average, students' achievement levels in analyzing the transitivity system in non-narrative texts (independent clauses) are better than in narrative texts. However, the difference is not too significant because it is likely that narrative texts are more complex than SFL analysis of free sentences.

Abstract

The semantics of prepositions have special connotations according to the verb followed. It is known that prepositions can reverse the meaning of the verb to the other. The verb becomes more than one meaning because of the different connotation of the preposition by the verb. This research aims to study the semantics of verbs related to prepositions and to highlight the eloquence of the Holy Quran in the diversity of its infringement of the single verb in various prepositions through the study of Alusi interpretation. The method used is a stylistic approach, where researcher collected some verbs related to preposition i. e. adzina-amana-kharaja-h}amala-fa’ala, then analyzed objectively with the extrapolation of the aesthetics of their connotations and suggestions and compare Alusi’s views in his interpretation with former and modern scholars’ interpretations. The result showed that Alusi had both same and different views with former and modern scholars regarding the effect of preposition to the verbs’ meaning.

Abstract

This qualitative research explores the practice of Islamic law among Chinese Muslims in Indonesia, focusing on the contribution of the Indonesian Chinese Islamic Association, or Persatuan Islam Tionghoa Indonesia (PITI) in East Java in three aspects; translating the Qur’an into Mandarin, organizing marriage guidance and religious consultation, and facilitating ḥalāl food industry. The primary data collection method involves in-depth interviews with Islamic leaders within the community, particularly those affiliated with PITI. Secondary data is gathered through an extensive review of literature comprising documents, books, news, and articles related to Islamic law practices among Indonesian Chinese Muslims. Data analysis employs a spiral approach, encompassing content analysis, contextual examination, and critical evaluation. The results of this research show that, specifically, PITI East Java is focused on three areas: arranging marriage counseling, translating the Qur'an into Mandarin, and developing a mentoring program for ḥalāl products. Besides, PITI uses a cultural approach to help Chinese Muslims comprehend and follow Islamic precepts while also taking into account their unique background and characteristics. As a result, the Chinese heritage has been influenced by Indonesian and Islamic traditions. This practice is dynamic and still proceeding in the new horizon that needs support from all stakeholders, the government, and other Muslim communities in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of conservation character values, as promoted by Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), within the Tendances A2: Méthode de Franí§ais handbook, using an ecolinguistic framework. UNNES, a conservation-oriented university, upholds values such as creativity, humanism, honesty, and fairness, aiming to instill these principles in its students. Since the Tendances A2 handbook was developed in a French socio-cultural context, this research seeks to assess its alignment with Indonesian conservation values through an ecolinguistic lens, which focuses on the relationship between language, culture, and the environment. The study utilized intensive observation and the Bang and Dí¸í¸r dialog model for descriptive and interpretative analysis. The findings show that all eight conservation character values advocated by UNNES are represented in the handbook, with creativity standing out as the most prominent value, emphasizing the handbook's potential to encourage innovative thinking. Humanism and honesty were also significant, fostering ethical and empathetic communication. This ecolinguistic approach reveals how the handbook, despite its European context, effectively embodies UNNES's conservation ethos by reflecting the interconnectedness of language, culture, and environmental values. Consequently, the Tendances A2 handbook is highly recommended for use in French Literature courses at UNNES, as it supports both language learning and the cultivation of essential conservation values.

Abstract

In this epidemic era, teachers are expected to build a successful learning environment in conjunction with online learning. Basic nahwu learning is one of the lessons affected by the pandemic situation. Learning the Arabic language system is increasingly difficult to do online because the Arabic language system is very different from Indonesian, as the learners' mother language. The presentation of linguistic rules clearly cannot be done directly. Educators are responsible for innovating nahwu learning through the unity-based Nahma educational game "Nahwu Matching" so that learners can easily understand and avoid boredom during the full online learning. The use of educational games is the right solution to overcome this problem. The aims of this study are: (1) to find out the needs of lecturers and students, (2) to describe the prototype picture of the Nahma. The data of this study were obtained through test and non-test data. The tool of the test is a written test while tools of the non-test data are interviews, observations, and questionnaires on the needs of lecturers and students. Based on the findings, it can be stated that both students and teachers require engaging learning applications for Nahwu that can successfully assist the learning process.

Abstract

Despite the central role of Arabic in Islamic teachings, its influence on students' religious character in higher education remains underexplored, particularly in Indonesia. Understanding this relationship is essential as Arabic serves as a linguistic tool and a medium for internalizing religious values. This study aims to explore the potential relationship between Arabic language learning and the student's religious character at Universitas Negeri Semarang. Utilizing a case study method, we collected data through interviews, participant observation, and religiosity questionnaires, ensuring data validity through triangulation of methods and sources. The analysis employed thematic analysis to uncover key insights. The findings indicate a positive correlation between Arabic language learning and various dimensions of students' religious character, including ritualistic practices, beliefs, knowledge, and experiential. This finding suggests that Arabic language instruction enhances linguistic skills and plays a crucial role in shaping students' religious identities and values, potentially influencing their attitudes and behaviors in broader contexts.

Abstract

Studying nahwu means studying the rules governing the usage of Arabic sentences, encompassing their structure, position, and grammatical markers. In nahwu studies, understanding ism nakirah (indefinite noun) and ism ma’rifah (definite noun) is crucial due to the significant impact of the article "الْ" on sentence meaning. This thesis discusses ism nakirah and ism ma’rifah within the text "Al-‘Arabiyyah Baina Yadaik Volume 4 Part 2 (Syntactic Analysis)". The research aims to identify the types of ism nakirah and ism ma’rifah, and analyze their syntactic functions and grammatical markers in the mentioned text. This is a qualitative study utilizing a library research design. The data consist of ism nakirah and ism ma’rifah occurrences in "Al-‘Arabiyyah Baina Yadaik Volume 4 Part 2". Research instruments include data cards and summary sheets, with data collection techniques involving reading and writing. Purposive sampling is employed to select data samples aligned with the research objectives. Data analysis techniques encompass data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Findings reveal 2,555 instances of ism nakirah and ism ma’rifah in the text. Through purposive sampling, 100 data samples were selected for analysis, comprising 25 instances of ism nakirah and 75 instances of ism ma’rifah. Among the latter, the researcher identified 15 instances of ism dlamīr, 11 of ism ‘alam, 10 of ism isyārah, 10 of ism maushūl, 14 of ism ma’rifah prefixed with "al", 14 of ism id̲l̲āfah with another ism ma’rifah, and 1 instance of ism munad̲ā nakirah maqshūd̲ah. Syntactic functions in the study include 37 instances of raf’, 24 of nashb, and 39 of jarr. The nature of their i’rāb includes 62 instances of ism mu’rab and 38 instances of ism mabnī. Among the 62 mu’rab instances, 21 are marked with ḍamma, 17 with faṭḥah, and 24 with kasrah. Meanwhile, the 38 mabnī instances consist of 4 with ḍamma, 9 with faṭḥah, 4 with kasrah, and with 21 sukun.

Abstract

Education always adapts to technological advances, especially in learning Arabic reading skills. For this reason, teachers must innovate and be creative in designing learning media for Arabic reading skills, one of which is the development of linktree-based Sibbar (Arabic Language Learning Site). The problems studied in this study are:(1) how to analyze the needs of teachers and students for linktree-based Sibbar (Arabic Language Learning Site), (2) how to prototype linktree-based Sibbar (Arabica Language Learning Site), (3) how to validate experts and teachers against linktree-based Sibbar (Arabic Language Learning Site). This research uses mixed method research and uses research and development (R&D) research design with the ADDIE model without the implementation stage, so this research only uses four stages (Analysis, Design, Development, and Evaluation). Data collection techniques in thist study were questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The data validity test uses triangulation of techniques and sources. The results of this study are: First, teachers and students approved the development of linktree-based Sibbar (Arabic Language Learning Site) media. Second, this media prototype contains an initial display in the form of a menu page that contains several links on one landing page. Consists of (1) linktree account name (2) student attendance connected directly to google form, (3) Learning Outcomes, Learning Objectives, Learning Objectives Flow and indicators and indicators (4) Arabic learninga materials, containing mufrodat (vocabulary) materials and reading texts in the form of learning videos connected directly to google drive, (5) rules in the form of learning videos connected directly to google drive, (6) online game quizzes connected directly to the educandy website, (7) exercises. Third, the assessment on the media aspect obtained a total average score of 3.90 and the material aspect obtained a total average score of 3.89. The recapitulation of Sibbar (Arabic Language Learning Site) media value based on linktree is 3.89 with the category very feasible / very suitable, so it can be used for learning Arabic reading skills of grade 4th elementary school.
