This study aimed at identifying the needs of grade eight students of SMP Negeri 8 Medan in learning reading English using website and concerns on how web-based reading learning materials are developed for grade VIII students of junior high school. The nature of this study is Research and Development (R & D). The steps were conducting the needs analysis, writing the course grid, storyboarding, writing the first draft, obtaining the experts’ judgments, revising the first draft, and finally writing the final draft. This study involved 32 students of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 8 Medan as the research subjects. The instruments for collecting the data were questionnaires (needs analysis questionnaire and expert judgment questionnaires). The results of the needs analysis questionnaire were analyzed using percentage and the expert judgment were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Data got from the result of need analysis was being the basis in developing the product. The website was divided into five pages: Home, Start Up, Your Focus, Your Activity, and Grammar Corner. Then, based on the expert judgment, the website are appropriate for the grade eight students of junior high school. It was proved by the mean value of 4.2 for web based materials which cover the appropriateness of content, language, and presentation, and 4.5 for the website.Key words: Research and Development (R&D), Website, Reading Materials, Junior High School

AN ANALYSIS OF LEVEL QUESTIONS IN READING EXERCISES OF STUDENTS ENGLISH TEXTBOOK GRADE X BASED ON REVISED BLOOM’S TAXONOMY Rizky Adryati; Masitowarni Siregar; Nora Ronita Dewi

The objective of this research was to analyze the level of questions in reading exercises of students English Textbook grade X based on Revision Bloom’s Taxonomy. This study would be a descriptive study, which analyze the reading exercises in English for Senior High School Grade X textbook published by Masmedia in 2017 based on the cognitive domain of Bloom’s Taxonomy. The dominant design of this research would be Qualitative method. The data would be collected by using checklist. For collecting data there are four steps, selecting, classifying, coding and the last, the result of the checklist show the percentage of reading question which are referring to the cognitive domain. The findings of this research was the questions in the textbook did not cover all of the cognitive levels which consist of remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating and creating. There was no question belong to creating. Cognitive levels found in the textbook were as follows: remembering got 75 questions out of 115 questions or 65,21%. Understanding level question obtained 14 questions out of 115 questions or 12,17%. Applying level obtained 1 items out of 115 questions or 0.86%. Analyzing level obtained 21 questions out of 115 questions or 18,26%. Evaluating level obtained 2 items out of 115 questions or 1,7% and there was 2 questions belong to creating level out of 115 questions that put elements together to form a coherent or functional whole; reorganize elements into a new pattern or structure. This research aimed to develop learning media for teaching writing descriptive text by using Lectora Inspire. This research was conducted by using educational research and development (R&D) proposed by Gall, Gall & Borg method through six phases: gathering data and information, conducting need analysis, designing media, experts validating, revising, and final product. The subjects of this research are 27 students of grade ten of Travel Agency and Tourism program of SMKN 7 Medan which is located in at Jl. STM 12 Sitirejo Medan. The data and data resources were the teacher’s lesson plan, teacher’s interview, and students’ questionnaires result. After getting the last data, the media should be planned to be designed as the students’ needs. The media were developed and had been validated by the experts. The percentage of the media from the experts is 90% that is categorized as very eligible. It can be concluded that interactive learning media is already appropriate to be used as a learning media in teaching writing descriptive text. The aim of this research is to find out the students’ reading comprehension proficiency in each levels of reading comprehension. This research was designed as a descriptive study. The data was obtained from the results of students’ answers to reading comprehension questions. The subjects of this study were the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 15 Medan. The levels of reading comprehension were based on Barrett Taxonomy (Clymer, 1968). The results of this research showed that the students were properly proficient within the literal comprehension (98%), reorganization (95%), and inferential comprehension (82%). In contrast, the students struggled within the evaluation level (65%) and appreciation level (50%). Students were suggested to continue improving their reading comprehensy, most especially in the evaluation and appreciation level comprehension. Teachers were suggested to guide the students to connect with the text in a more personal and involving way to improve their proficiency in appreciation comprehension level.
