Abstract

This research discussed about the moral values as found out in the last leaf short story. Moral values were found out by using sociological theory. This research used method descriptive qualitative. This instrument used was the short story of The Last Leaf. The researcher also used other information about moral values. Researchers also use the theory of moral values in orderto better know what moral values are contained in the short story of The Last Leaf. Based on the sociological approach, there are three perspectives: functional perspective, symbol perspective, conflict perspective. After analyzing the researcher found some moral values, namely Tolerance, Fairness, Belief, Kind-hearted, honesty, and responsibility.

Abstract

This article is concerned with the analysis of an independent study in improving English proficiency of students of non-English Department in FKIP University of Pasir Pengaraian on the basis of a recent study. The aspects explored in the study covered activities done by the students in their independent study and their proficiency. Generally, independent study can be conducted anywhere and at anytime by using any supporting sources such as language laboratory, library and Self Access centre. The research employed the descriptive qualitative design and the instruments used in collecting the data were a set of questionnaire and tests.The data analysis covered preparation and data implementation. The findings showed that the activities of independent study done by non-English department students were reading English newspapers and magazines, listening to the radio especially English programmes, watching videos, and making use of language laboratory, library, self access centre. The finding also provided the evidence that the students’ English proficiency showed significant improvement.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate how students’ language in the English Vaganza competition which was organized by the University of PasirPengaraian. The type of research was descriptive quantitative. Researchers used video footage of students’ performance. The research instrument used video recording. Sampling was total sampling. The sample consists of 19 students who follow the impromptu speech competition in EnglishVaganza. The data obtained comes from several raters. The data were taken from the video recording of the students' performances and transcripts from each student itself. The ways to analyze data were collecting data, analyzing data, and display the results of the data analysis itself. In taking the data, the researcher used video recording and raters. In analyzing the data, the researcher used indicators in impromptu speech; say the objectives, composing contents, supporting ideas, adding stories and examples and summarizing key ideas, showing awareness of the listener's needs, speaking clearly, choosing the right vocabulary and information, using tone, speed and word size thinking, complexity of the vocabulary and last showing comfort with the listener. Based on the result of the research, it was concluded that the level of speech impromptu of students in the English Vaganza competition was quite good.

Abstract

In the process of the learning activities, every student has different efforts in learning English and it would give different progress of their speaking skill. In this research, the purpose was to know students speaking skill through micro teaching practice. The data took from their video documentation. The research design is descriptive qualitative research while the sample was sixth semester students of English Study Program in 2016/2017 academic year. The result of the research was from their performance in micro teaching practice was in average category, the data showed that 78% were average level.

Abstract

This purpose of the research was to find out students’ speaking skill in midwifery students at third semester students of midwifery program in university of Pasir Pengraian. The kind of this research was descriptive qualitative only focus describing the data. The data got from documentation speaking practice of medical English. The researcher took the data fromdocumentation video. In collecting the data the researcher useddocumentation and speaking test to got the data. In analyzing the data the researcher used the components of speaking such as : pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. The population of the research was third semester students academic 2018/2019 Midwifery StudyProgram, the sample of this research were 14 students. Based on the result of analysis, the researcher found 1 student (7%) had good score, 5 students (36%) had average score and 8 students (57%) had fair score.

Abstract

This research investigated about the English Abstract Written By The Participants on national proceeding conducted by University of Pasir Pengaraian. The purpose of this research was to analyzed English Abstract Written By The Participants. This research was descriptive qualitative design. The population of this research was 45 abstract. The sample of this research was 45 abstract. The data was to analyzed by three raters. Based on the two indicator that have given by the researcher. The result of this research that showed based on the first indicator was categorized in good level, mean while The result of this research based on the second indicator was categorized in fair level. The weaknesses of the participants in writing abstract, most of them did not write the conclusion in their abstract. Abstract

The aim of this research is to know deeply about the important thing of communication. Their impact has been broadly studied within interactions between humans as well as in the field of human-computer interaction. The emergence of many new information and communication technologies, face-to-face interaction is still widespread and popular. A greater emphasis is put on face-to-face communication which provides greater interaction compared to mass communication. This research included into qualitative research. The results show that communication between students and parents is less than 1 hour and vary often misunderstandings between them. The rejection of the positive aspect of the communication by the students, such as having relaxed communication and having great interest for communication from the parents also leads to the same conclusion. Having some fear in communication with the parents is equally perceived by the different categories of students.

Abstract

This Paper discusses about the analysis of Students Speaking Skill through animation movie. Animation movie is included in audiovisual media. In addition, animation movie is kind of film which involve sound, recording a series of draing of manipulating in animate object, one frame is one time. The technique of data analysis is descriptive qualitative. The steps involved analyzing the component of speaking skill (accent, fluency, vocabulary, grammar and comprehension). Besides, the students had to watch the animation movie that they have chosen before. After that in the group of work they had to discuss the story then present it in oral presentation in front of the class. The Sample in this paper was the second semester students which consist of 40 students. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that students’ speaking skill through animation movie was in good category. It can be seen from the summary of data, 79,5% of students was in good category in comprehension, 67,5% of students was in good category on fluency, 75% of students was good category in vocabulary, 59% of students was in good category in term of grammar and 79,75% of students was in good category in term of accent.

Abstract

Public Speaking is considered as an essential skill for University Students. Public speaking is having a speaker stand before the audience to deliver a speech in a structured manner, to either persuade, inform, or entertain the audience.This study aimed to reveal the extent of students’ skills in public speaking skill especially for persuasive and informative speech. This research was descriptive quantitative. Data were obtained from students' public speaking test of 58 English studentsat English Department University of Pasir Pengaraian and analyzed and described in qualitatively. The finding came up with encouraging numbers of results where a greater proportion of the samples reported significant number in good level of categories in assessing public speaking skill. More over, the result showed that the highest score of students’ in public speaking skill was in vocabularies and comprehension. Besides, it was indicated that the students gradually could express their thought and opinions smoothly in informative speech then persuasive speech.

Abstract

The present study is aimed at investigating the influence of Concrete Pictorial Abstract (CPA) approach to the improvement of elementary school students’ Self Efficacy Mathematics (SEM) seen from Mathematical Prior Ability (MPA) and as a whole. It is a quasiexperiment with control design of pre-scale and post-scale in Mathematics in the topic of 3 dimension geometry (3D geometry) to 119 elementary school students in Purwakarta Subang Karawang Bekasi (Purwasukasi), West Java. The present study is conducted by using two study groups, a group which implements CPA learning approach as the experimental group and group which implements conventional learning as the control group. Both descriptive and inferential data analysis show that the improvement of students’ SEM is better in students with CPA learning approach rather than students with conventional learning, seen as a whole and in every MPA.Therefore, CPA learning can improve elementary school students’ SEM.
