Abstract

Alstonia scholaris L. contains several compounds, which has been proven to be potential as skin protection by formulating in gel preparation. The aims of this study were to obtained the antioxidant activity of crude extract from leaf part of Alstonia scholaris L. and gel preparation contain Alstonia scholaris L. leaf extract. Extract was prepared using destilled methanol by maceration method. The gel preparation was developed with extract (1% w/v) in carbomer base (1,67% w/v). The chemical compound was evaluated qualitatively used some reagent. The antioxidant assays performed by DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method. The result shown that methanolic extract of Alstonia scholaris leaf was found had flavonoids, tannins, phenols, alkaloids, saponins, and steroids compound. The methanolic crude extract and gel preparation had strong antioxidant activity with IC50 value was found to be 69,502 ppm and 86,832 ppm, respectively. From the result we conclude that the methanolic crude extract of Alstonia scholaris leaf sole has strong scavenging free radical activity even formulated in gel preparation but has decreased IC50 value.

Abstract

High prevalence of traditional medicine used as a promotive, preventive and curative for disease is still a choice among the community, especially during the transition period of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of which is the community in RT 09 Mudung Laut Village, Pelayangan District, Jambi City. Community service in Mudung laut was carried out to maximise the benefits of plants as traditional medicine and providing information to the people of Mudung Laut Village regarding the identification and introduction of medicinal plants so that the community can process medicinal plants properly without destroying the active substance content. The method of community service carried out was through preparation stages, implementing the service in the form of socializing material with some themes and the final stage was searching for medicinal plants around the house and processing ginger into powder and granule. The results of this community service were the development of skills and knowledge, list of medicinal plants around Mudung Laut Village, increasing added value and creating jobs as well as product diversification. Furthermore, it is hoped that this community service activity will carry out continuous assistance and cooperation in Mudung Laut Village so that the community and implementers can transfer knowledge and create innovations to improve the level of public health.

Abstract

Mata Kuliah Formulasi Teknologi Sediaan Cair dan Semi Solid merupakan mata kuliah yang berisi tentang materi pengantar sediaan cair (larutan, sirup, elixir, emulsi, dan suspensi) dan semi solid (salep, cream, pasta, dan gel), keuntungan dan kerugian dari sediaan tersebut, bahan tambahan yang digunakan, serta proses pembuatan dan perhitungan dalam pembuatan sediaan cair dan semi solid. Model pembelajaran AIR (Auditory Intellectually Repetition) merupakan metode pembelajaran kooperatif melalui pengelompokan grup kecil dengan berbagai macam tingkat kemampuan. Model ini menerapkan pendekatan yang konstruktivis yang menekankan bahwa belajar harus memanfaatkan semua alat indra yang dimiliki. Hasil penelitian sebelumnya menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran mampu memberikan peningkatan pemahaman dalam proses pembelajaran serta memberikan respon positif dari mahasiswa. Pembelajaran pemecahan kasus merupakan metode yang dimulai dari identifikasi kasus-kasus, alternative pemecahan kasus, melakukan investigasi kasus menggunakan sumber belajar dan menyusun laporannya. Penggabungan model dan metode pembelajaran diatas diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berfikir mahasiswa sehingga tingkat pemahaman dalam materi perkuliahan dapat dipahami dan diterapkan Metode kegiatan penelitian inovasi pembelajaran dilakukan dengan cara pelaksanaan kegiatan kemudian diakhir perkuliahan diminta mahasiswa memberikan refleksi dari hasil kegiatan pembelajaran. Hasilnya akan dianalisa secara deskriptif dan inferensial. Hasil Kegiatan menunjukkan adanya perbaikan pengetahuan dan nilai akhir mahasiswa selama proses pembelajaran.

Abstract

Banyak penyakit ringan yang dapat diobati sendiri (swamedikasi) tanpa harus ke dokter akan tetapi jika pengobatan tidak tepat karena minimnya informasi dan pengetahuan dapat memperburuk penyakit, obat tidak berefek dan meningkatkan biaya pengobatan. Masyarakat diperbolehkan menyimpan persediaan obat bebas dan bebas terbatas yang terbilang aman karena rentang untuk mencapai dosis toksiknya jauh. Kegiatan ini bertujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakan dalam melakukan swamedikasi dengan tepat. Metode transfer ilmu yang digunakan yaitu Cara Belajar Ibu Aktif (CBIA) yaitu metode berpartisipasi aktif dalam mendengarkan, menonton, menulis, dan mengevaluasi informasi seperti jenis obat dan bahan aktif yang terkandung, serta khasiat dan efeknya. Kegiatan telah dilaksanakan selama 3 kali turun lapangan. Pertemuan pertama berupa sosialisasi pengenalan istilah kemasan obat dan swamedikasi gastritis serta penyakit kulit. Pertemuan kedua berupa sosialiasi swamedikasi diare dan cacingan serta perilaku hidup bersih. Pertemuan ketiga membahas swamedikasi batuk, demam dan pilek. Kegiatan telah mampu meningkatkan pengetahuan peserta melalui diskusi, penjelasan kembali, dan mengisi lembar kerja terkait istilah medis dalam brosur obat dengan benar. Keterbatasan kegiatan ini adalah peserta yang berbeda pada tiap sosialisasi sehingga peserta tidak mendapatkan materi secara komprehensif.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di Kelurahan Legok, Kota Jambi dengan tujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat dalam pengolahan tanaman herbal berkhasiat sebagai peningkat sistem imun tubuh. Metode yang digunakan berupa sosialisasi dan demonstrasi langsung pembuatan minuman herbal dari bahan lokal seperti jahe, kunyit, serai, nanas, timun, lemon, dan chia seed. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan partisipasi aktif dari masyarakat dengan peningkatan pemahaman tentang manfaat herbal dan kemampuan praktik pengolahan ramuan herbal yang mudah diterapkan di rumah. Selain itu, kegiatan ini juga menumbuhkan kesadaran pentingnya menjaga daya tahan tubuh secara alami, terutama di masa pandemi. Kegiatan ini memberikan kontribusi dalam memberdayakan masyarakat untuk memanfaatkan sumber daya alam lokal secara optimal dan berkelanjutan sebagai upaya peningkatan kesehatan. Pengembangan lanjutan disarankan berupa pelatihan produksi minuman herbal instan dan pendampingan budidaya tanaman herbal agar manfaatnya dapat dirasakan secara luas.

Abstract

Alstonia scholaris L. contains several compounds, which has been proven to be potential as skin protection by formulating in gel preparation. The aims of this study was to obtained the concentration of carbopol 940 and glycerol to produce an optimal gel preparation of Alstonia scholaris L. leaf extract. Simplex lattice design was used as optimization method with two independent variable, carbopol 940 (0.5%-2.5%) as gelling agent and glycerol (14%-16%) as humectant. There were 5 formulas carried out to physical properties evaluation: organoleptic, homogeneity, spreadability, pH, adhesion time and viscosity. The result showed that the prediction of optimal formula from SLD method with 1.67% carbopol 940 and 14.83% of glycerol. The physical properties of optimal formula was 5.206±0,125 of pH value; 28,768.24±4,608.11 cP of the viscosity value; 5.96±0,087 cm of spreadability value; and 55.146±1.174 seconds of adhesion. There was no significant difference of SLD prediction responses with observation respons.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Community service activities on Training on Making Herbal Cosmetics at RT.02, Mendalo Indah village, Jambi Luar Kota District aim as follows: a)  Providing knowledge to partner communities about the benefits of herbal plants in the form of cosmetic preparations in order to increase the use value of many herbal plants around the RT.02 Mendalo Indah community; b) Provide technical training to partner communities on how to make herbal cosmetics including masks, scrubs, moisturizers and body scrubs made from active herbal ingredients and how to use them. The results of this PKM activity are expected to form knowledge, competence and empower community independence in RT 02 Mendalo Indah in utilizing and processing medicinal plants around the house into herbal cosmetics in the form of scrubs, body scrubs, masks and moisturizers made from active ingredients from herbs that are safe for use by the community. Counseling on the efficacy of herbal plants in cosmetic preparations and conducting training on processing herbal plants into herbal cosmetics through learning by doing (technical procedures for processing plants) into cosmetic preparations including how to process plants until they are ready for use, introduction to basic ingredients for making cosmetics, how to make cosmetics and how to use and store herbal cosmetics. The people of Mendalo Indah Village understand about the processing and manufacture of cosmetics using herbal plants. Sharing dosage forms of cosmetic products given during training and counseling include scrubs and masks that are efficacious as antiaging, face and skin whitening, exfoliating and antioxidants. Hasil dari kegiatan PkM ini diharapkan dapat membentuk pengetahuan, kompetensi dan memberdayakan kemandirian masyarakat di RT 02 Mendalo Indah dalam memanfaatkan dan mengolah tanaman obat disekitar rumah menjadi kosmetik herbal dalam bentuk lulur, body scrub, masker dan pelembab berbahan aktif dari herbal yang aman digunakan oleh masyarakat. Penyuluhan khasiat tanaman herbal dalam sediaan kosmetik dan melakukan pelatihan mengolah tanaman herbal menjadi kosmetik herbal melalui learning by doing (prosedur teknis pengolahan tanaman) menjadi sediaan kosmetik meliputi cara pengolahan tanaman sampai siap digunakan, pengenalan bahan dasar pembuatan kosmetik, cara pembuatan kosmetik serta cara penggunaan dan penyimpanan kosmetik herbal.Masyarakat Desa Mendalo Indah memahami tentang pengolahan dan pembuatan kosmetik menggunakan tanaman herbal. Berbagi bentuk sediaan produk kosmetik yang diberikan saat pelatihan dan penyuluhan diantaranya adalah lulur dan masker yang berkhasiat sebagai antiaging, pemutih wajah dan kulit, exfoliating dan antioksidan. Abstract

Free radical reactions were increased in cells, leading to degenerative illnesses. Antioxidant components may inhibit free radical reactions. Exogenous antioxidants are primarily found in red palm (Cyrtostachys renda Blume). This study aimed to assess the potency of antioxidant activities of fruit and root C. renda, which were extracted in n-hexane, ethyl acetate, dichloromethane, and water. The bioactivity of the fractionate, isolate, and positive control (ɑ-tocopherol) were used in the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method. The result showed that the ethyl acetate extract of fruit and roots had the highest antioxidant activity, with an IC50 value of 11.47 ± 0.169 µg/mL (very strong category) in the roots. In contrast, the IC50 value in the fruit was 10.69±0.084 g/mL. Further evaluating of antioxidant activity in the roots revealed that the IC50 value for isolate A was 28.17±0.232, while the IC50 value for isolate B was 24.80±0.296 g/mL. The fruit of isolation C had an IC50 value of 14.91±0.247 g/mL, while isolate D had an IC50 value of 25.98±0.133 g/mL. Compared to the antioxidant activity of ɑ-tocopherol, which has an IC50 value of 13.54±0.038, isolate C is very potent inhibit free radical scavenger. In contrast, the other isolates are two times lower than the positive control.

Abstract

Phytochemical studies about Curcuma genus such as Curcuma Longa and Curcuma zedoaria have shown the plants contains curcumin as the most isolated compound shown photoprotection agent and can be formulated as cream preparation. The concentration of Curcuma longa in cream preparation in this reseach was 0,5% and Curcuma zedoaria 0,5; 1; 1,5; 2; 2,5; and 3%. Cream preparations were physical evaluated of semi solid dosage form i.e pH organoleptic, spreadability, homogeneity, adhesion time and viscosity. The result was compared to SNI 16-4399-1996 (Indonesian Standard of UV protection preparation). All formulas were tested for radical scavenging activity using the DPPH method and SPF value determination. The results shown that formulas 3-6 met SNI requirements while formulas 1 and 2 did not met SNI from adhesion testing with results <1 second. Based on the antioxidant test results, it was found that formula 6 had the best antioxidant activity with lowest IC50 value of 126.69 ppm. It was linear as SPF value of formula 6 with 20.24 (ultra category). From this research, it was concluded that the greater of concentration of Curcuma zedoaria extract in cream preparation so free radical scavenger activity was better. Antioxidant activity is related to the SPF value of the preparation.

Abstract

Papaya leaf (Carica papaya L.) have very strong antioxidant activity with IC50 value 21.08 ppm. C. papaya L. leaf can be formulated in gel preparation. The physical properties of gel and its effectiveness as an antioxidant can be affected by excipients, so it is necessary to optimize the formula. The aims of this research were to find the concentration of sodium carboxy methyl cellulose (Na-CMC) as gelling agent and glycerin as humectant to get optimal formula with the best physical properties and measure its antioxidant activity. Simplex lattice design (SLD) method was chosen for formula optimization with Na-CMC range 0.5-4% and glycerin 10-13.5%. The optimal formula was determined based on pH value, spreadability, stickiness and viscosity then determined for antioxidant activity using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method. The results of this research were optimal formula with Na-CMC concentration 1.853% and glycerin 12.147%. The antioxidant activity of the optimal formula was decreased from the extract activity, with an IC50 value 21.08 ppm (very strong) to 61.70 ppm (strong). It can be concluded that the optimal formula for papaya leaf (C. papaya L.) extract gel preparation can be obtained with combination of Na-CMC and glycerin using the SLD method with strong antioxidant value.
