Abstract

The main challenge in the livestock sector today is soaring production costs due to the limited availability of conventional forage. This study aims to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of Megarhizo Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC) on the productivity and morphological characteristics of duckweed (Lemna sp.) as a candidate for alternative feed. Specifically, this study aimed to map plant responses, including fresh weight, dry weight, leaf width, and root length, as well as their impact on the stability of the growing medium's water quality. This experiment was designed using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of four POC dosage levels (P0: 0 ml, P1: 15 ml, P2: 20 ml, and P3: 25 ml per 10 liters of water) with four replications. The data analysis results showed that the application of POC had a significant effect (P < 0.05) in improving the quality of the cultivation environment, indicated by a decrease in water temperature and a neutralization of the pH level from alkaline conditions (9.17) to the optimal range (7.79). However, the addition of nutrients through liquid organic fertilizer (POC) did not have a significant impact (P > 0.05) on all physical plant growth parameters. Among all treatments, the P1 dose (15 ml/10L) was identified as the most efficient concentration because it produced the maximum average root length (25.89 cm) and dry matter weight (4.71 grams) compared to other doses. This study concluded that although it was not able to significantly increase biomass in a short time, the Megarhizo liquid organic fertilizer played a crucial role in creating more ideal growing media conditions for the sustainability of duckweed cultivation as a source of animal feed.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of utilizing cow dung and animal feed waste as raw materials for composting on the quality of macronutrient content including nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). The background of this study is based on the importance of managing livestock waste into useful products for the agricultural sector as well as an environmentally friendly solution to improve soil structure and support sustainable agricultural systems. The research method was carried out by applying five treatment levels, namely P0 as a control, and P1, P2, P3, and P4 which involved the addition of EM4 activator up to a concentration of 5%. The results of the analysis showed that in the nitrogen parameter, the highest average was achieved by treatment P3 at 0.59, followed by P4 (0.57) and P0 (0.55), but statistically the results showed no significant difference (P <0.05) across all treatments. This indicates that treatment variations have not been able to significantly increase nitrogen content, which is thought to be due to the uniform decomposition process and the risk of nitrogen loss in the form of ammonia during the composting process. In contrast, for the phosphorus parameter, the P4 treatment produced the highest yield of 0.39 and showed a significant difference compared to the other treatments, with the lowest value at P0 of 0.28. The effectiveness of P4 in increasing phosphorus is closely related to the optimal activity of phosphate-solubilizing microorganisms in breaking down organic compounds into inorganic compounds that are available to plants. The most significant increase was seen in the potassium parameter, where the P4 treatment produced the highest value of 0.85, followed by P3 (0.71), P2 (0.67), P1 (0.61), and P0 (0.43). Statistical analysis showed that the treatment had a very significant effect on potassium levels, which was influenced by the high original mineral content in the raw materials and the effectiveness of the decomposition process in breaking down complex minerals into readily absorbable elements. Overall, the study concluded that the application of EM4 up to 5% had a very significant effect on increasing potassium, but did not have a statistically significant effect on nitrogen and phosphorus content in the final conclusion. The use of this technology has proven effective in reducing livestock waste and optimizing the overall quality of organic fertilizer.

Abstract

Rice straw is one alternative feed resource that has potential for use as livestock feed under certain conditions. This potential is indicated by its abundant availability, while a large proportion remains underutilized. Unfortunately, disposal is often carried out by burning in agricultural fields, which leads to air pollution. This study was conducted to evaluate the fermentation of rice straw using different fermentors, namely MA-11 mixed with molasses and Starbio, and their effects on the physical and chemical properties of rice straw. The experiment employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three treatments and four replications: P0 (fermentation without probiotics), P1 (fermentation with 3% MA-11 mixed with molasses), and P2 (fermentation with 3% Starbio). The observed variables included physical characteristics (color, aroma, and texture) and chemical composition (dry matter and pH). The findings indicated that fermenting with MA-11 combined with molasses and Starbio enhanced both the physical and chemical attributes of rice straw silage. In terms of physical characteristics, the fermented samples displayed a yellowish-brown hue, a mildly acidic scent, and a somewhat rough texture. From a chemical perspective, the dry matter percentage rose from 91.97% (P0) to 92.37% (P1) and 92.37% (P2), although this change was not statistically significant (P>0.05). At the same time, pH levels showed a notable decrease from 6.25 (P0) to 5.50 (P1) and 5.75 (P2). Thus, it can be concluded that the fermentation of rice straw utilizing MA-11 along with molasses and Starbio significantly influenced the quality of rice straw following the fermentation. This suggests that the fermentation method can enhance the physical and chemical qualities of rice straw, thereby boosting its potential value as an animal feed component.

Abstract

The significance of environmental management in closed-house systems is discussed in this paper, with a focus on the function of partition location in preserving ideal microclimate conditions for broiler production. The growth performance and carcass quality of broiler chickens may be impacted by uneven temperature distribution caused by improper partition distances. This study examined how the carcass quality of broiler chickens in a closed-house system was affected by partition distances from the intake (P1: 0 m, P2: 30 m, and P3: 60 m). Partition location had a substantial impact on carcass weight, carcass percentage (P<0.01), and belly fat (P<0.05), according to an analysis of 36 male broilers. Due to heat buildup in the intermediate zone, P2 had the lowest carcass weight (2059.15 g), whereas P1 and P3 had the greatest (2234.03 g and 2207.88 g). Because of the best airflow close to the blower and effective energy conversion, P3 had the greatest carcass percentage (77.5%) and belly fat (1.9%). The study comes to the conclusion that partition distance modifies the microclimate of the home, which has a direct impact on the performance of broiler production.

Abstract

Avocado seed meal, a part of the avocado plant that is rich in antioxidants and various other nutrients and non-nutrient substances, has great potential to be used as an herbal additive in animal feed. This study aims to determine the effect of molasses addition on the nutrient profile and quality of avocado seed meal silage. The control treatment (P1) used plain avocado seed flour, while the experimental treatments (P2, P3, and P4) incorporated increasing molasses concentrations of 1%, 2%, and 3% of dry matter, respectively. All treatments were stored for 21 days at ambient temperature. The metrics assessed included nutrient composition, physical characteristics, and fresh silage quality. The data collected were evaluated using analysis of variance, and differences in parameter values among treatments were additionally examined with DMRT at a significance level of 5%. Findings showed that molasses notably improved the silage's nutrient composition and fresh quality (P<0.05), but had no significant effect on physical quality (P>0.05). The conclusion of this study suggests that adding 3% molasses can produce the highest-quality avocado seed meal silage as an optimal feed for livestock.

Abstract

Teak leaves are an abundant waste product, but their use as animal feed is still limited due to their high fiber content and relatively low crude protein content. Their nutritional quality can be improved through a fermentation process. This study aimed to determine the effect of various doses of EM-4 (Effective Microorganism 4) on teak leaf fermentation to obtain the most optimal nutritional content. In this study, the design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications resulting in 12 treatment combinations. Each of which was divided into treatments P0 (0 ml), P1 (6 ml), P2 (12 ml), P3 (18 ml) and fermented for 14 days. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test at a significance level of 5%. The results of the Duncan test showed that with different doses of EM - 4, there was no significant effect on crude fiber, dry matter, and crude protein (P>0.05). Although descriptively, there was an increase in crude fiber and crude protein content, and a decrease in dry matter content with increasing EM4 dosage, these changes were not statistically significant. In conclusion, differences in EM-4 dosage during fermentation did not significantly affect the nutritional content of crude fiber, crude protein, and dry matter.
