Abstract

The decline in functional activities is a health problem that is increasing globally, especially among workers of productive age, including the State Civil Apparatus (ASN). Internal factors such as age and weight are known to contribute to an increased risk of musculoskeletal disorders, including low back pain. This study aims to determine the relationship between weight and age to the decrease in functional activity in ASN at the Cirebon City Environmental Service. The study used a correlational analytical design with a cross sectional approach. The sample was taken by purposive sampling with a total of 51 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. Data was collected through a Google Form-based questionnaire that included biodata, Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS), and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). Data analysis was carried out using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and the hypothesis test with parametric correlation analysis. The results showed that both age and weight were significantly related to decreased functional activity. Respondents with older age and above-normal weight have a higher prevalence of experiencing low back pain complaints in the moderate to severe category. It was concluded that the increase in age and body mass index contributed to an increased risk of decreased functional activity in ASN.

Abstract

Abstract

Menopausal symptoms can reduce quality of life in elderly women and their severity is influenced by physical activity levels. In European regions approximately 70-80% women experiencing menopausal symptoms, whereas in America the proportion is around 60% and in Asia, reports indicate that approximately 10% of women in Japan and Indonesia experience menopausal symptoms. Hand grip training as a form of resistance training has the potential to increase muscle strength and help reduce menopausal symptoms. This study aims to evaluate the effect of hand grip training on menopausal symptoms in active and inactive elderly women in the community. The study used a  quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test two-group design consisting of 34 elderly women aged 50–60 years who were divided into active and inactive groups based on their physical activity levels using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form (IPAQ-SF) questionnaire. The hand grip training intervention was given for 4 weeks with a frequency of 3 times per week for 12 training sessions. Menopausal symptoms were measured using the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test for the active group and Paired Sample T-Test for the inactive group. In the active group, the median MRS scored decreased from 7.00 to 6.00 (p=0.001). In the inactive group, the mean MRS scored decreased from 12.24±3.80 to 8.53±3.52 (p=0.000). Hand grip training siginificantly reduces menopausal symptoms in both active and inactive elderly with greater improvement observed in the inactive group. This simple exercise can be effectively implemented in community-based settings to help manage menopausal symptoms among postmenopausal elderly women.

Abstract

Early postural assessment using camera-based systems remains technically challenging due to variability in user positioning and limited evaluation of measurement repeatability. This study presents the development and repeatability evaluation of a smart mirror system for automated postural analysis using pretrained pose estimation and rule-based geometric classification. The system consists of a fixed camera mounted above a mirror and a connected computing device for real-time processing and visual feedback. Anatomical landmarks were detected from standardized anterior, posterior, and lateral views using an AI-based pose estimation model, and postural asymmetry was quantified using bilateral distance ratios and angular deviation thresholds derived from literature. Reliability was evaluated through repeated measurements to assess the consistency of landmark detection and postural classification outputs. Forty adolescents (age 12.8 ± 0.56 years; 28 males, 12 females) participated in present study. The system intra-rater reliability was evaluated by calculating Intraclass Correlation Coefficients (ICC) for the landmark data and Cohen's Kappa for posture classifications. The system demonstrated excellent reliability for key landmarks in scapula (ICC = 0.98, 95%CI 0.97-0.99) and hip-knee-ankle (ICC = 0.98, 95%CI 0.98-0.99). The classifications for scoliosis assessment also showed excellent agreement (κ = 0.90). These results indicate that the proposed system can produce repeatable posture measurements under controlled conditions; however, this study evaluates repeatability only and does not assess diagnostic accuracy or clinical validity. Further validation against clinical reference standards is required before broader application.
