Abstract

Women's leadership is gaining more recognition in the public eye, particularly in professional leadership roles within educational institutions. Despite facing challenges such as seniority, local customs, and societal perceptions, these obstacles do not deter women from their leadership roles in educational institutions. In fact, they strive to create better opportunities for future leadership. The challenges faced by female school principals are often influenced by the prevailing patriarchal culture in society and community life. This research employs a qualitative method with a gender analysis approach. The findings reveal that challenges related to seniority and local customs are dominant issues for female school principals in Aceh. Seniority comes into play when younger school principals are perceived as inexperienced leaders by their senior counterparts, even if they possess the necessary competencies for the role. On the other hand, local customs are influenced by the presence of teachers who are local residents in the school. Additionally, dealing with policy dualism in private schools and collaboration with committees presents straightforward challenges for school principals, influenced by the research location, student backgrounds, and school status. The strategies offered by school principals involve continuous engagement, fostering better collaboration, and early consultation with relevant stakeholders. These efforts have helped ease tensions and lead to more effective solutions for overcoming these challenges.

Abstract

Indonesia, as a country with religious and cultural diversity, faces serious challenges in the form of the growth of radicalism, which has the potential to disrupt social cohesion. An Islamic education management strategy is needed to foster religious moderation in Islamic boarding schools. This study aims to develop a model for managing religious moderation among Islamic boarding school students in Indonesia, emphasizing the role of Islamic boarding schools as strategic Islamic educational institutions. The research was conducted at four selected Islamic boarding schools: SPEAM Pasuruan, Ma'had Dalwa, Pesantren At-Taqwa, and Dayah Darul Abrar. Primary data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation, while secondary data were sourced from relevant literature. The data were then analyzed using triangulation, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show three main findings: first, ustadz/ustadzah have an integrated perspective on religious moderation by emphasizing national commitment, tolerance, anti-violence, and accommodation of local culture; second, religious moderation is fostered through an integrative managerial approach in planning, organizing, implementing intracurricular and extracurricular activities, and enforcing pesantren rules; third, the resulting fosterage model is an integrated construct that integrates the dimensions of values, curriculum, student activities, and institutional governance. In conclusion, this study confirms that pesantren management grounded in an integrated perspective and an integrative construction model provides a strategic framework for institutionalizing religious moderation among students. Beyond its contribution to Islamic education management, this model offers transferable insights for religious and faith-based educational institutions worldwide, particularly in pluralistic societies confronting radicalization, intolerance, and social fragmentation.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the activation of hearing and sight in Islamic learning models based on the perspective of Islamic education and various academic literature sources. In Islamic education, hearing (al-sam‘) and sight (al-abṣār) are regarded as fundamental human potentials that play an important role in acquiring knowledge, building character, and internalizing spiritual values. This study employed a qualitative approach using a library research method. Data were obtained through the exploration of journal articles, books, and scientific references related to audio-visual based Islamic learning models. The data analysis technique used content analysis through the stages of data reduction, theme categorization, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the activation of hearing plays a significant role in improving listening skills, understanding information, and strengthening the internalization of values through Qur’anic recitation, lectures, dialogue, and educational communication. Meanwhile, the activation of sight helps students understand concepts concretely through observation, visual media, demonstrations, and multimedia-based learning technologies. The integration of audio and visual approaches in Islamic learning has proven effective in enhancing students’ attention, motivation, memory, and emotional engagement in the learning process. Furthermore, this approach also supports character building, emotional development, and children’s spirituality through exemplary behavior, positive communication, and more interactive and meaningful learning experiences. This study concludes that the optimization of hearing and sight should become a primary concern in developing holistic and adaptive Islamic learning models in accordance with contemporary educational developments. Audio-visual approaches not only improve learning effectiveness but also strengthen moral formation and students’ religious awareness in their daily lives.
