Abstract

For women who are housewives, developing their potential should also be something that needs to be done, especially for those who depend on their husbands for economic income. Such is the case in nagari Balaigurah, District IV angkek, Agam Regency, West Sumatra. Most housewives there have not even realised their potential. This reason is the background of the counselling activities aimed at motivating and exploring the potential of housewives in Nagari Balaigurah, District IV Angkek. The method used in this research is qualitative method. Data was collected by means of in-depth interviews, documentation and Focus Group Discussions. Through this research, it is found that the involvement of Nagari as a stakeholder is an undeniable element to achieve the expected results so that later the potential of housewives who have been explored can synergise with the Nagari programme.

Abstract

This research is aimed at looking at the portrayal of women in the media, especially in Cosmopolitan magazines. Cosmopolitan magazine advertisements use sex appeal in packaging their messages. Sex appeal is built through female sexuality and sensuality. This is reflected in the verbal and visual aspects of advertising. Verbal aspects can be seen from the text in the headline, body copy, and closing. Visual aspects can be observed vectorially, modality, and composition. The analysis was carried out using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach at the level of denotation and connotation. In collecting data, the research tries to see examples of advertisements in cosmopolitan magazines which are categorized into sensual, romantic, and erotic sections. In collecting data, this study used qualitative methods. This research type is a library (library study) using a semiotic approach. The research data were collected from relevant literature, journals, and previous studies.

Abstract

This research discusses the adaptation strategy of Javanese Surinamese repatriates in Tongar Nagari Aia Gadang Village, West Pasaman. The aim of this research is to describe the initial obstacles faced by Javanese Surinamese repatriates in Tongar Village and to describe the adaptation strategies of Javanese Surinamese repatriates in Tongar village. This research method used is qualitative research. Data collection techniques are field observations, interviews and documentation. The theories used are Michael P. Todaro's migration theory and John W. Bennet's adaptation theory. The findings of this research are that Javanese Surinamese repatriates who were in Tongar Village faced obstacles such as language, economics, land ownership and difficult road access when they came to Tongar, then the repatriants adapted to their new environment by means of cultural adjustments, interaction processes, job options, road repairs. Therefore, these repatriates have their own way of continuing to survive in Tongar Village, they have also started to get used to socializing and are used to their new environment, so that the Javanese Surinamese repatriates can survive to this day in Tongar Village.

Abstract

This research discusses the phenomenon of game online slot addiction, a case study of Cultural Anthropology students class of 2020 at ISI Padangpanjang. The aim of this research is to describe the factors behind and the consequences of the online slot game addiction phenomenon in Cultural Anthropology students class of 2020 at ISI Padangpanjang. The theories used are Alfred Schutz's Phenomenology theory and Dominic Strinanti's Popular Culture theory. The research method used is qualitative research. Data collection techniques are field observations, interviews and documentation. The findings from this research are that there are several factors that make Cultural Anthropology students class of 2020 addicted to playing online game slot online, such as: high curiosity, trying out luck, filling in gaps, and a friendly environment. Then the consequences caused by gameslotonline addiction include dependency, lack of sleep and disturbed activities, not focusing on studying and talking dirty and rude.

Abstract

This research is entitled "Malim Belief System in the Toba Batak Community in Air Kulim Village, Bathin Solopan District, Bengkalis Regency". The aim of this research is to describe the historical background, as well as look at the forms of rituals contained in the malim belief system in Air Kulim Village. The theory used in this research is Victor Turner's ritual theory which explains rituals. The method used is qualitative research. The data collection techniques are field observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The data analysis techniques used in this research are collecting data, reducing data, displaying data and drawing conclusions. The results of this research show that the presence of this malim belief system originated from the Batak people in the North Sumatra area, which was spread by King Sisingamangaraja. Then King Sisingamangaraja gave a mandate to Raja Mulia Naipospos to lead the malim belief and disseminate the malim belief system. Until now, the malim belief system has developed into several areas in Indonesia, one of which is Air Kulim Village. Through a husband and wife who initially came to Air Kulim Village to migrate looking for work. In the Malim belief system there are several rituals that they still carry out today, namely: ceremony mararisabtu, ceremony martutuaek, ceremony pasahat tondi, ceremony mardebata, ceremony mangan na paet, ceremony sipaha sada, ceremony sipaha lima. Some of these rituals are still carried out by adherents of the malim belief system in Air Kulim Village as a form of worship to Debata Mulajadi Nabolon.

Abstract

The research entitled “Changes in the Function of Betawi Traditional Houses in the Setu Babakan Area, Srengseng Sawah Village, South Jakarta”. The purpose of this research is to describe the form of functional changes that occur in Betawi traditional houses in Srengseng Sawah and the factors behind the functional changes in Betawi traditional houses in Srengseng Sawah. The theory used in this research is the theory of social change from Selo Soemardjan which is used to identify the factors that cause changes in function in Betawi traditional houses and the theory of functionalism from Malinowski. This research uses qualitative methods, with data collection techniques based on observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study explain the form of functional changes that occur in Betawi traditional houses including the function for the place to carry out the Baturan ceremony, the function for the place to carry out the Bebarit ceremony, the function to hold weddings and circumcisions, the function to distinguish social status, the function to store tools and agricultural products. Furthermore, the factors behind the change in function include religion, economy, lifestyle changes, technological advances, and the division of inheritance.

Abstract

This study examines the "Balimau Tradition in the Wedding Procession in Koto Alam Village, Pangkalan Koto Baru District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra Province". The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of the balimau tradition in the wedding procession in Koto Alam Village and to describe the meaning of the balimau tradition. The theory used in this study is the symbolic interpretative theory of Clifford Geertz. The method used in this study is a qualitative method. Data collection in this study was carried out using observation, interview, and documentation methods. The data analysis technique in this study uses steps including data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions and verification. The results of this study indicate that the balimau tradition is a bathing tradition carried out by the bride and groom after carrying out the marriage contract, this tradition is carried out during the village barolek event. The implementation of the balimau tradition is to prepare the tools and materials for balimau, the bride and groom are paraded to the river, read prayers, shave the bride's hair, rub the boreh kasai on the bride and groom, rub the bungo kiambai, the bride and groom dive, wash the bride and groom's hair, bathe, use pamanih oil, distribute kotan kuniang, and wash away the remaining materials from the balimau tradition. The meaning contained in the balimau tradition is to cleanse and purify the bride and groom. The tools and materials used in the balimau tradition have meanings that are intended for the good of the bride and groom.

Abstract

This research is entitled "The Function of Language as an Adaptation Strategy forTransmigrants Java in Simpang Nangka Village, Selupu Rejang District, BengkuluProvince". This research aims to describe the adaptation process of Javanesetransmigrants in Indonesia Simpang Nangka Village and the function of language as anadaptation strategy for transmigrants Java. The theory used in this research is Bronislaw'sfunctionalism theory Malinowski The method used is a qualitative method, withtechniques collecting observation data, interviews and documentation.The results of this research explain that language functions as a strategyadaptation of Javanese transmigrants in Simpang Nangka Village. First of all bring it tohistory of transmigration to Simpang Nangka in 1964 through spontaneoustransmigration. From transmigration activities, the population in Simpang Nangka isdominated by two ethnicities namely the Javanese and the Rejang. While living inSimpang Nangka as a migrant The transmigrant population goes through severalprocesses to adapt there. As for Some of these processes are: Learning the Rejanglanguage, adaptation through agriculture,adaptation to social organizations, adaptationthrough kinship systems and so on.This research also explains the function of languageon related biological psychology human behavior and needs, then the function oflanguage in the economy, namely make it easier in the negotiation process and then thefunction of language in related politics voice through campaigns.

Abstract

The aimed of this research is to describe the implementation and meaning of the Manyabik Padi Sarentak tradition in Nagari Sumpur Kudus, Sijunjung Regency, West Sumatra Province. The theory used in this research is the symbolic interpretive theory of Clifford Geerzt. The method used is a qualitative method, with data collection techniques of observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the research show that the background of the Manyabik Padi Sarentak tradition, apart from reducing pests, is also related to the arrival of Sheikh Ibrahim to Sumpur Kudus in 1503, where he taught the community to open rice fields, plow and plant rice, but inwardly taught the Islamic religion. The order of implementation of the Manyabik Padi Sarentak tradition is the meeting to determine palakat, Manyabik Padi, Maangkuik Padi Ka Ungguak, Mangiriak Ungguak Padi, Mangipeh Padi, Manjomuagh Padi, Bakawuagh Adat, and Mamanggang Jami. The general meaning of this tradition is togetherness in the context of the time it started. The meaning of implementing this tradition is a process of equalizing perceptions, economic meaning and employment opportunities, community adaptation to technology, local wisdom, expressions of gratitude and simplicity, tolerance and tolerance.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan faktor yang melatarbelakangi perempuan bekerja sebagai tukang ojek pangkalan (OPP) dan kehidupan sosial ekonomi tukang ojek pangkalan perempuan yang berada di Kota Padangpanjang. Teori yang digunakan dalam skripsi ini adalah teori fenomenologi Alfred Schutz. Adapun metode yang digunakan yaitu metode kualitatif, dengan teknik pengumpulan data yaitu observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Faktor yang melatarbelakangi perempuan bekerja sebagai tukang ojek yaitu, pemenuhan kebutuhan ekonomi keluarga, faktor pendidikan, fleksibilitas waktu dan faktor sosial. Kehidupan sosial tukang ojek perempuan pangkalan (OPP) dalam kehidupan sehari-hari meliputi: interaksi sosial, tantangan sosial dan tantangan pekerjaan serta dukungan komunitas. Selanjutnya, kehidupan ekonomi tukang ojek pangkalan perempuan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari mencakup: sumber pendapatan, pengeluaran dan pengelolaan keuangan serta pemberdayaan ekonomi.
