Abstract

  This thesis entitled “Bakawugh Tradition in Nagari Sumpur Kudus Sijunjung west Sumatera Province” The purpose of this research is to regency describes the bakawugh tradision carried out by the community in Nagari Sumpur Kudus. The theory used in this thesis is symbolic interpretative theory by Clifford Geertz. The medhod used by the author is qualitativemethod, with data collection techniques namely observation, interview, and dokumentation. The results of the study show that the background of the bakawugh tradition comes from the idea of Syekh Ibrahim himself in 1520. In general, the meaning of the bakawugh tradition is thanksgiving, gathering and practicing the charakteristics of Syekh Ibrahim. Social, respect of mind, patience and struggle, togetherness, and hope. Furthermore there are meanings in the contents of jambaigh such as the meaning of peace, purity, freedom, simplicity and ease, unity, tenderness, kinship and closeness, closeness, brotherhood.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the public leadership and program management capacity of students who are candidates for Generation Planning Ambassadors (GenRe) in Padang Panjang City. Students and pupils nominated as GenRe Ambassadors play a strategic role as agents of change in supporting population programs and youth development. However, this role requires structured and results-oriented leadership and program management skills, necessitating systematic training activities. The community service program was conducted using an educational and participatory approach via Zoom. The activity was attended by 30 participants from various universities and high schools in the province of West Sumatra. The activity included lectures on public leadership and program management, interactive discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. The activity was evaluated through a questionnaire filled out by participants to assess the relevance of the material, the implementation method, and the benefits of the activity. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of the role of public leadership and basic program management skills. Participant evaluations showed ratings ranging from good to very good, especially in terms of the relevance of the material and the benefits of the activity. This indicates that online training remains effective in improving the capacity of prospective GenRe Ambassadors. This community service activity contributes to supporting the development of a competitive and integrity-driven young generation, as well as strengthening the synergy between universities, BKKBN, dan Dinas Sosial, Pengendalian Penduduk, Keluarga Berencana, Pemberdayaan Perempuan, dan Perlindungan Anak Kota Padang Panjang in strengthening the GenRe program at the local level

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji makna simbolik tradisi Batarewai dalam prosesi perkawinan masyarakat Nagari Koto Gadang, Kecamatan IV Koto, Kabupaten Agam, Sumatera Barat. Penelitian bertujuan untuk memahami sejarah, tahapan prosesi, serta nilai-nilai budaya yang terkandung dalam tradisi Batarewai perkawinan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode etnografi, merujuk pada teori interpretatif simbolik Clifford Geertz. Data diperoleh melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam dengan niniak mamak, pelaku adat, dan pengrajin, serta dokumentasi visual. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tradisi Batarewai perkawinan terdiri atas tiga tahapan utama, yaitu tahap persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan penutup. Setiap tahapan memuat simbol-simbol budaya yang merepresentasikan nilai tanggung jawab, silaturahmi kekerabatan, pendidikan adat, serta peran mamak dalam sistem kekerabatan Minangkabau. Tradisi ini berfungsi sebagai mekanisme pewarisan nilai adat dan penguatan identitas budaya lokal. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa Batarewai perkawinan tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai ritual seremonial, tetapi juga sebagai media edukasi sosial dan simbolik dalam menjaga keberlanjutan adat Minangkabau di tengah perubahan sosial.

Abstract

Media bukan hanya sarana komunikasi, melainkan agen ideologis yang aktif dalam membentuk konstruksi sosial tentang identitas gender. Representasi perempuan dalam media kerap dikonstruksi melalui simbol sensualitas, estetika tubuh, dan narasi patriarkal yang menjadikan mereka objek visual dan komoditas simbolik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji bagaimana media memproduksi dan melanggengkan mitos-mitos tentang perempuan melalui praktik representasi simbolik yang bersifat hegemonik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kepustakaan dengan pendekatan kualitatif interpretatif. Data dikumpulkan dari berbagai sumber literatur seperti buku teori feminisme, semiotika budaya, kajian media sebagai referensi utama. Analisis dilakukan dengan mengidentifikasi dan menginterpretasi tanda-tanda, narasi visual, serta wacana gender yang direproduksi media melalui pembacaan kritis terhadap makna denotatif, konotatif, dan ideologis. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa media tidak hanya merepresentasikan perempuan secara stereotipis, tetapi juga menciptakan bentuk-bentuk kekerasan simbolik dan manipulasi pencitraan yang beroperasi di bawah struktur kapitalisme dan patriarki. Mitos-mitos ini memperlihatkan bagaimana tubuh perempuan diposisikan sebagai alat produksi makna kultural demi kepentingan ekonomi dan estetika dominan.

Abstract

From the research entitled "Bridal Bathing Procession in Banjar Community in Betara District, West Tanjung Jabung Regency, Jambi Province" aims to describe the bridal bathing procession in Banjar community in Betara District. The type of data collection uses qualitative methods, with interview, observation and documentation techniques. Bridal bathing is one of the traditional ceremonies carried out before the wedding ceremony in Banjar community in Betara District. Bridal bathing is a tradition that must be carried out in the marriage process according to Banjar customary beliefs and beliefs. Bridal bathing aims to purify oneself as a whole, both physically and spiritually. Banjar people believe that the bride's face will be radiant for 40 days and kept away from disaster. The equipment for the bridal bathing procession is young areca nut shoots, 40 types of cakes, 4 yellow sugar cane stalks, yellow thread rope, yellow clothes, yellow shawls, long cloth, mirror, comb, powder, kohl, hair oil, candles, prayer water and yasin water. Bridal bathing until now, one of them in West Tanjung Jabung Regency still carries out bridal bathing as one of the traditional wedding processions.
