Abstract

Gender-based violence (GBV) has increased in the last decade, highlighting the need for significant attention to the prevention of physical and/or sexual violence. This situation is partially influenced by parenting in the family and is specifically reinforced by the involvement of fathers. This study aims to examine the effect of mindful parenting on GBV, with the father's involvement in parenting as a mediator. Data were collected using accidental sampling from 739 people (503 women and 236 men) aged between 18 to 23 years old. The instruments used in the study were the Interpersonal Mindfulness in Parenting (IM-P) scale (31 items, α = .953); the Inventory of Father Involvement (IFI) (26 items, α = .915); and the Social Norms and Beliefs about Gender-based Violence (GBV) Scale (30 items, α = .935). Mediation analysis served to test the research hypothesis. The research results indicate that mindful parenting has a significant effect on GBV, with the direct effect (β = -0.244, p < .001) being lower than the indirect effect (β = -0.582, p < .001), and the results of the Sobel test (z = -11.649, p = .000, p < .001) suggest that this effect is mediated by the father's involvement in parenting. These findings emphasize the importance of increasing societal awareness regarding the significance of father involvement in parenting to reduce gender-based violence. Fathers should provide complete care by being physically and psychologically present, which could alleviate the mother's burden and diminish gender-based violence.

Abstract

Sociability is a fundamental element of Indonesian culture that emphasizes mutual acceptance and respectful presence in shared social spaces. This study explores how sociability is established and experienced by male students living in shared student housing, with a particular focus on both architectural and psychological dimensions. Employing a qualitative grounded theory approach, data were collected through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with 30 male residents occupying multi-user bedrooms. Participants described their everyday interactions and spatial experiences within the housing environment. The findings reveal that sociability is cultivated through shared routines, local socio-cultural practices, and communal norms, which foster interpersonal closeness among residents. Importantly, the spatial layout, such as openness, proximity, and availability of communal areas, plays a critical role in enabling social encounters. From a psychological perspective, students’ perceived person–environment fit emerged as a key factor influencing their comfort, engagement, and sense of belonging. This research contributes to the understanding of sociability in student housing by integrating architectural and psychological insights. It also underscores the importance of designing student living environments that promote cultural congruence, social connectivity, and psychological well-being, especially within Indonesian collectivist societies.

Abstract

The phenomenon of commuter workers in the Jabodetabek area, particularly users of the KRL Commuter Line, is often characterized by challenges stemming from long and exhausting daily travel. This study aims to examine the relationship between work–life balance and subjective well-being among commuter workers using the Jabodetabek KRL Commuter Line. The study population consisted of formal-sector commuter workers who regularly use the KRL Commuter Line, with a total of 104 participants selected through convenience sampling. The instruments used were the Work–Life Balance Scale (16 items; α = 0.872), the Satisfaction with Life Scale (5 items; α = 0.891), and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (19 items; α = 0.906). The results of simple regression analysis showed that work–life balance significantly predicted subjective well-being among commuter workers (β = 0.418, p = .001). Work–life balance explained 10.1% of the variability in subjective well-being (R² = 0.101; F(1, 102) = 11.46; p < .001). These findings indicate that the higher the level of work–life balance perceived by commuter workers, the higher their level of subjective well-being. Overall, this study underscores the importance of effectively managing the balance between work and personal life to help Jabodetabek KRL commuter workers maintain optimal subjective well-being.
