Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan persepsi siswa terhadap penerapan blended learning dalam English Language Teaching (ELT). Pelaksanaan blended learning di ELT baru dilaksanakan kurang lebih satu tahun dan pertama kali dilaksanakan di kelas sepuluh. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Kuesioner terbuka dibagikan kepada 116 siswa dari seluruh siswa SMAN 1 Selimbau yang mengikuti pelaksanaan blended learning dan dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Sementara itu, wawancara semi terstruktur dilakukan dengan guru bahasa Inggris yang menerapkan blended learning, untuk membandingkan data penelitian dari persepsi siswa. Untuk menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan analisis tematik. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa siswa memiliki pemahaman dasar tentang penerapan blended learning dalam English Language Teaching (ELT). Para siswa juga memiliki harapan yang tinggi terhadap penerapan blended learning, yaitu kedepannya penerapan metode blended learning di ELT dapat dilakukan secara berkesinambungan. Para siswa juga mengkritisi pelaksanaan blended learning dan memberikan saran agar dalam pelaksanaan blended learning sebaiknya memperhatikan segala sesuatunya.Kata Kunci: Persepsi Siswa, Blended Learning, Pengajaran Bahasa Inggris. Abstract This research aims to describe students' perceptions of the implementation of blended learning in English Language Teaching (ELT). The implementation of blended learning in ELT has only been carried out for approximately one year and was first implemented in the tenth grade. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. An open-ended questionnaire was distributed to 116 students' from all students in SMAN 1 Selimbau who attended the implementation of blended learning and were selected using a purposeful sampling technique. Meanwhile, semi-structured interviews were conducted with English teachers who implemented blended learning, to compare research data from students' perceptions. To analyze the data, the researcher used thematic analysis. The results of the analysis show that the students have a basic understanding of the implementation of blended learning in English Language Teaching (ELT). The students also have a high expectation of the implementation of blended learning, that is, in the future, the implementation of the blended learning method in ELT can be carried out continuously. The students also criticized the implementation of blended learning and gave suggestions that in the implementation of blended learning it is better to pay attention to everything.Keywords: Students Perceptions, Blended Learning, English Language Teaching

Abstract

Quantitative descriptive research was conducted to determine the students' difficulties in reading comprehension and the factors of students' difficulties at SMPN 05 Tanah Pinoh Barat. The subjects of this study were seventh grade students of SMPN 05 Tanah Pinoh Barat. Son. Samples were selected using purposive sampling. The purpose of this study was to determine the difficulties of students in reading comprehension, and the factors of students' difficulties in class VII SMPN 05 Tanah Pinoh Barat. Researchers used quantitative descriptive methods. The subjects of this study were students of SMPN 05 Tanah Pinoh Barat. Samples were selected using purposive sampling. Data collection techniques in this study using measurement techniques and indirect communication. The instruments used are reading test and closed questionnaire. The researcher gave a test with 20 multiple choice questions. After getting the data from the reading test, the researcher analyzed the data by calculating the students' scores on the tests that had been given to each class. Then the researcher categorizes the students' scores on the test based on their ability level. To find out the students' difficulties, the researcher calculated the percentage of students' difficulties in five aspects of reading comprehension. Data from closed questionnaires were analyzed by calculating the percentage of answers from students. The test results showed that the seventh-grade students of SMPN 05 Tanah Pinoh Barat had difficulties in five aspects of reading comprehension. Namely, the main idea, supporting details, vocabulary, inference, and references. The most challenging aspects for students are vocabulary with a percentage of 58%, and references by 62%. The main idea with the percentage of student difficulty 38%, supporting details 38%, and inference 42%. The results of the questionnaire show that students' difficulty in reading comprehension is caused by 3 factors, namely: Lack of understanding of reading material, difficulty in using reading strategies, and the last is limited vocabulary knowledge. The conclusion of this study is that students fail to understand vocabulary and make conclusions. These two aspects are the most difficult aspects for students.Keywords: Students Difficulties, Reading Comprehension, Descriptive Quantitative Method

Abstract

This qualitative research was conducted to analyze the teacher strategies in implementing character education in English learning. The subject of the research was active students at Eighth Grade and an English teacher of SMP Negeri 5 Kalis in the Academic Year of 2020/2021. The sample was selected using a purposeful sampling technique. The technique of data collection applied in this research were documentation, observation, and interview. Documentation was used to get data from the lesson plan. The observation was used to get data in the process of teaching and learning activities to know about the implementation of character education. Meanwhile, an interview was conducted with English teachers to get more information about teachers’ strategies in implementing character education. Based on the results of documentation, observations, and interviews, it can be concluded that the English teacher has implemented character education. The implementation strategies of character education that teachers use are role models, habits, assignments, discussions, cooperation, punishments, or rewards, as well as linking life values with the material being studied.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the interference of the Malay language in Pronouncing English voiceless stops by EFL students in Pontianak. The design of this research was a descriptive study. The total participants were 15 EFL students whose mother tongue is Malay. This research used a pronunciation test to collect pronunciation data through an audio recorder as the main tool. Pronunciation test sheet consisted 21 English words contains English voiceless stops phoneme /p/, /t/, and /k/. Based on the research findings, after conducting a pronunciation test the data showed that from 315 English words that had been tested there were 129 words in total found mispronounced by the students. Mostly, mispronunciation happened when pronouncing phoneme /p/ that was 56 times from 105 chances, followed by phoneme /t/ that was 42 times from 105 chances and phoneme /k/ which 31 errors from 105 chances. Based on the research findings, mother tongue indicated interfere students` pronunciation in pronouncing English words at Pontianak.  Keywords: Mother tongue, Interference, English pronunciation.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengekplorasi kesulitan guru Bahasa Inggris dalam mengajar pemahaman mendengar di SMA Negeri 1 Ketungau Hulu tahun akademik 2020/2021 dan untuk menemukan solusi dalam mengatasi kesulitan guru Bahasa Inggris dalam mengajar pemahaman listening. Penelitian ini mengimplementasikan sebuah rancangan penelitian deskriptif dalam metode kualitatif. Terdapat 3 guru Bahasa Inggris yang berpartisipasi untuk mengumpulkan data utama. Penelitian ini diterapkan dengan menggunakan sebuah teknik wawancara melalui panggilan telepon. Wawancara ini dimodifikasi dan diadopsi dari protocol Md, Rahman Saidur (2014) yang terdiri dari 6 pertanyaan. Penemuan penelitian ini mengidentifikasikan bahwa guru Bahasa Inggris SMA Negeri 1 Ketungau Hulu menghadapi kesulitan dalam menggunakan strategi untuk mengajar pemahaman mendengar, siswa-siswi kesulitan untuk fokus dengan pelajaran, pengeras suara atau media yang digunakan terkadang tidak berfungsi, buku atau materi-materi tidak selalu tersedia di sekolah, dan kesulitan dalam mengatur situasi kelas.                                                      Kata kunci: Kesulitan dalam Mengajar Mendengar, Menulis Skripsi

Abstract

This qualitative research was conducted in order to analyze the implementation and the evaluation of character building in English language teaching activities at one of the private Islamic school in Pontianak. The subject of this research were active students at Seventh Grade and an English teacher. The sample was selected using a purposeful sampling technique. The technique of data collection applied were documentation, observation, and interview.  Documentation was used to get data from the lesson plan. Observation was used to get data in the process of teaching and learning activities. Meanwhile, an interview to get more information about character building that was implemented in the school. The results of this research showed from 18 character values based on curriculum, the values of religious, independent, communicative, social concern, discipline, curiosity, hard work, and respect for achievement are taught by teachers through teaching English in this school. Although, there were some character values from the lesson plan that were not implemented in the classroom, but most of the character values that were not in the lesson plan are taught by the teacher.

Abstract

The objective of this research were to find out whether there was any differences of students reading comprehension achievement before and after the implementation the treatment Index Card Match Strategy and how effective Index Card Match Strategy in reading comprehension to the Eight grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Sanggau in Academic Year of 2018/2019. The method of this research was quantitative research using experimental design. The result of the data showed the SD of pre-test (8.884) was higher than SD of post-test (7.863). It showed that the treatment was well implemented. Lastly it was proved by paired sample t-test value, the value of t-test was higher than t-table 19.165 2.064 which meant that Ha was accepted. The effect of the used Index Card Match Strategy was strong effect level based on the Cohen’s effect. It was 1.05 which meant that strong effect to increase students’ reading comprehension.  Keyword: Index Card Match Strategy, Reading Comprehension, Pre-Experimental Research

Abstract

This research used pre-experimental research that wanted to know whether Climbing Grammar Mountain Games has effect to teach simple past tense to the ninth grade students of JHS 01 Mempawah Hilir in Academic Year 2019/2020. This research used cluster random sampling, the researcher used multiple choice as the tool of data collection, but before it the researcher did the try out to find out which sentences that could be used as the tool by using validity test. After getting the valid questions for pre-test and post-test, then the mean score of pre-test and post-test would be compared. The result mean score from pre-test was 45.71 and from post-test was 67.32. The calculated of t-test showed that tobtain was higher than ttable, it was 17.491.703, It means that the testing hypothesis was accepted. Also supported by the result of effect size was 3.77, it had strong effect to this research. Therefore, Climbing Grammar Mountain Game is suggested to teach simple past tense. Keywords: simple past tense, climbing grammar mountain game, experimental

Abstract

This Research aims to find out the kinds and sources of speaking anxiety of the Students of English Parit Baru Village, Sungai Raya Regency in the academic year of 2021. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. Ten students from different grades of primary school around Parit Baru village were involved in this research. This research used a semi-structured interview and field note as the tool of collection data. data collection used an observation about students’ behavior during class that direct students to become Anxiety. The result showed that the kinds of speaking anxiety of English Parit Baru Village students were trait anxiety, where several students keep silent when the tutor ask them, students incapable to express their feelings, ideas, and thought; situation-specific anxiety when the tutor ask students to speak they sometimes can do it, in other condition or topics they also incapable to speak; state anxiety, when students ask by their tutor to speak suddenly, they cannot control their nervousness. Furthermore, the sources of speaking anxiety from personal anxiety can be overcome by actively of students during learning; interpersonal anxiety students need any motivation to learn speaking skills; teacher belief about language learning can be manifest by a good impression of teacher during teaching. For classroom procedure, the class needs to be relaxed; language testing derived from fear, shame, and doubt of the students.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the non-English students’ attitude towards English language at IKIP PGRI Pontianak. In this research, the form of research is descriptive mixed method. The subject of the research were non-English students’ of IKIP PGRI Pontianak. The data were taken through close-ended questionnaire and unstructured interview. In analyzing the data, the interactive model of data analysis proposed by Miles and Huberman was used. The sample was selected used a quota sampling. The result of this research based on the data collected showed that the respondents tend to have positive attitude towards English language. From the results of the questionnaire on the Likert scale of 52.69%, it indicated the agree category. This value shows that the average number of non-English students agrees. Thus, it can be said that the attitudes of non-English students tend to have a positive attitude towards English. The results of the data and conclusions in this study are real results obtained from the data source itself.
